Splits are purified several times by washing and sifting to make SPS,
DPS, TPS.
Splits are hydrolized with steam in order to liberate the inherent
Viscosity.
Hydrolized splits are micronized and dried to form high Quality Guar
Gums.
Hydration of splits 65-70%.
Micronization with Micro-Pulls using hot air (3000C).
Homogenize with Hammer Mill.
Gums contain again only about 10% moisture.

Reconstitution of fragmented tobacco
Reaction product of carboxy-methyl cellulose and guar gum
Binding agent, strengthening agent.
Tobacco
General usesGuar gum has many uses particularly in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries where it is used as a thickener, binder, emulsifier and stabilizer. It is added to various foods such as breakfast cereals, dairy products, gravy, processed vegetables, and baked goods.Reported tobacco industry usesThe tobacco part of most cigarettes (i.e. the shredded brown interior) is a mixture of the tobacco leaf and a paper-like product called ‘reconstituted tobacco'. Reconstituted tobacco is made up of mashed tobacco stems and other parts of the tobacco leaf that would otherwise be discarded. Tobacco manufacturers reportedly add guar gum (and its derivatives) to help bind this reconstituted tobacco in cigarettes. Tobacco manufacturers also use guar gum to prepare the cigarette paper that wraps the tobacco. The amount of guar gum added to bind the tobacco can make up between 0.6-1.8 % of the total weight of the tobacco used in one cigarette.
Harmful health effectsGuargum is generally regarded as safe for use in food and cosmetics. However, this does not suggest it is safe when inhaled from smoking cigarettes. When a cigarette is burnt, the guar gum present produces several toxic compounds that are either well-known to cause cancer in humans (e.g. formaldehyde, benzo(a)pyrene and benzene) or thought to possibly cause cancer in humans (e.g. acetaldehyde and styrene) as defined by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (a leading expert cancer organisation).Furthermore, the use of guar gum may be indirectly harmful due to the formation of compounds called aldehydes (e.g. acetaldehyde), which can make cigarettes more addictive by enhancing the addictive potential of nicotine. Aldehydes are very reactive and produce other compounds such as the substance harman, which can also make cigarettes more addictive due to its mood-enhancing effect on the brain. Some of the compounds formed when guar gum is burnt have a distinctive flavour. For example, diacetyl is one of the substances produced and has a butterscotch flavour, which can make a cigarette more appealing due to the improved flavour of the smoke. 2-Furfural is also formed and has an odour and taste that is described as sweet, woody, bready, and caramel-like. Therefore, these compounds help make a cigarette more attractive by imparting a pleasant flavour to the cigarette smoke. This can ultimately lead to more cigarettes being smoked and thus greater exposure harm due to the toxic substances in cigarette smoke
1) A process of making a reconstituted tobacco material, comprising mixing water and sugar and heating to form a heated mixture of water and sugar establishing a liquid flavorant mixing together tobacco particles, water, a gum binder, the heated mixture of water and sugar, and the liquid flavorant to form a reconstituted tobacco mixture; and forming the reconstituted tobacco mixture into a desired form of reconstituted tobacco material.2 A process according to claim 1, wherein said forming comprises casting the reconstituted tobaccomixture into a film and drying the film into a reconstituted tobacco sheet.3 A process according to claim 2, wherein said forming further comprises severing the reconstituted tobacco sheet into strips or shreds.4 A process according to claim 1 wherein the liquid flavorant is menthol in a liquid state.5 A process according to claim 4, wherein the gum binder comprises guar and the tobacco particles are combined with guar prior to the mixing step.6 A process according to claim 1, wherein the flavorant comprises
menthol, and wherein the sugar comprises sucrose and/or the gum binder comprises guar gum, and/or wherein the forming optionally further comprises casting the reconstituted tobacco mixture into a film, drying the film, severing the film into mentholated pieces, preparing a tobacco blend by combining the mentholated pieces with other blend components, and incorporating the tobacco blend into a tobacco rod.
7· A process according to claim 1, wherein the sugar and water mixture contains 10% to 45% by weight of the water and 55% to 90% by weight of the sugar, and/orwherein the tobacco particles, the water and the gum binder are premixed in a ratio that contains 5% to 60% by weight of tobacco particles, 3% to 12% by weight of the gum binder and 28% to 92% by weight of the water.8 A process according to claim 1, wherein the flavorant is menthol and the reconstituted tobacco mixture comprises a slurry which contains 20% to 60% by weight solids and 40% to 80% water, wherein the solids comprise 5% to 50%, preferably 10% to 30%, by weight menthol, 10% to 50%, preferably 30% to 50%, by weight sugar, 10% to 70%, preferably 20% to 40%, by weight tobacco particles, and 3% to 12%, preferably 5% to 10%, by weight gum binder.9 A process according to claim 1, wherein the forming further comprises extruding the reconstituted tobacco mixture into pellets, transforming the pellets into shreds and drying the shreds.10 A process according to claim 1, further comprising further conditioning the reconstituted tobacco material by holding the reconstituted tobacco material for a predetermined time and/or treating the reconstituted tobacco material with vacuum and/or heat to remove at least some of a surface flavorant.
11 A process of making a reconstituted tobacco material according to claim 1, comprisingsupplying the tobacco particles, the water and the gum binder to a mixer supplying the heated mixture of water and sugar to the mixer supplying the liquid flavorant to the mixercombining the tobacco particles, the water, the gum binder, the heated mixture of water and sugar, and the liquid flavorant in the mixer to form a slurry;supplying the slurry to an arrangement for forming a uniform layer of the slurry;drying the uniform layer of the slurry in a dryer to form a continuous sheet; andcutting or shredding the continuous sheet into pieces.12 A process according to claim 11, wherein the arrangement for forming a uniform layer of the slurry comprises a reverse roll coater.13 A process according to claim 12 wherein the reverse roll coater forms a film having a thickness of about 0.05 cm to about 0.08 cm (about 0.020 inches to about 0.030 inches).14 A process according to claim 11 wherein the film is dried to about 90% solids before being cut into pieces.
