OUTPUTS

Page 9: Presentation1 sos village

OUTCOMES

• SOS Children's Villages aims to help improve the situation of vulnerable children in many

ways and by working with partners at different levels:

• They make child care, education, and health care available to children and their families

directly.

• They help families and communities to become strong so they can take care of their

children better and organize child care, education and health care.

• They help to improve the policies and practices of the state.

Page 10: Presentation1 sos village

• It is predicted that in 2013 over five

million children will die globally of

preventative causes before reaching

their fifth birthday. Respiratory

diseases, diarrhea and malaria will

significantly contribute to the death

toll.

• Millions suffer lack access to

affordable basic health services.

Preventative health education, though

cost effective, is underutilized in

developing countries.

• The quality of schooling remains low.

Many children, especially girls, are

obliged to contribute to family income,

and drop out of school as a result.

• Global economic crisis has severely

affected parents’ caring and coping

abilities.

• Family poverty has made more

children vulnerable to violence, abuse,

neglect and exploitation. The

psychological cost of poverty is

humiliation, despair, and a sense of

shame and failure.

COMMUNITY NEED

Page 11: Presentation1 sos village

• John could not talk, he had a very big stomach, he had jiggers (parasitic insects that lay eggs under the skin) on his feet, hands, penis and mouth. They had really eaten him up and he was shaking like he had a fever. His house was made of mud which propagatedjiggers.

• By aligning curative and preventative healthcare, governments can save lives. Basic health care must be made available and affordable to all. Donors and governments that allocate more funds to preventative healthcare will see improvements in maternal health. By providing relevant information and training to the poorest communities, health education initiatives can provide a cost effective method of healthcare.

PERSONAL CONNECTION

• I can connect to this foundations mission because everyday I am taking action by, taking care of children that don’t have dads. I treat them like family and help them learn manners. I have a kind disposition and I make sure they feel secure and give them the opportunity to grow as individuals. Currently I help my mom take care of 5 children who live in poverty. We cook for them and help them with their homework. We provide utilities such as computers and printers to help them succeed in their school requirements. I take time to tutor them and listen to them.

• I donate money to different foundations dedicated to help orphans.

• I donate clothes and utilities for an orphanage in Tijuana and I supported my mom when she went over there too volunteer and cut hair to all the children that needed hair cuts.

• I also did community service in Santa Ana to feed the homeless children.
