Key Conventions

Although, the colour of the title sometimes varies, it is always in the same place. The readers are then able to recognize that it is the ‘Rolling stones’ magazine so it will not always be visible , but the audience are still able to see that it is the same magazine. The connotations on the front cover are positioned according to the main image on the cover. The front and colour always have a theme an always contrast with the background of the front cover. The artists that feature on the front cover are always current artists or even actors, all their ages vary. For instance from, Zac Efron to Jonny Deep. Most of the people featured on the covers are very good looking and appeal to a younger audience. The person on the front cover always has a double page spread inside the magazine.

In each issue there are certain features which are up held, to keep the target audience happy and to keep them buying the magazine. For instance, with every new issue they have a different artist on the cover with their story about their life and the industry. The magazine also contains different news about smaller artists who are not as big yet.

Just like the Rolling stones front cover, they adapt the colours and the font to the artist and their styles but still keep the font of the title. This is expressed clearly in the Billboard front cover. The titles are most likely kept the same ,because like the Billboard title, they are very distinct. Another Generic attribute of music magazines is the title is always the same on all their front covers and are constantly big and bold so that their readers know the magazine and so that they are bale to attract more people.

Analysis of Front cover’s

Although, most double spread pages are suited to the individual and their style and taste, for instance the Taylor Momson spread shows her rebellious side by making the background black and changing the font of ‘wild’ to make it actually look more wild and to give the effect of being scraped onto the paper, the placement of the columns and the images are the same and are typical conventions of a double page spread. Most magazines, to make a big statement and attract audiences, have a larger image of the individual featured on the spread because the audiences that these magazines are targeted at like to see more revealing images of them as it creates a larger connection with the individual (usually very well known) and the audience. Additionally the columns of writing are both on the right side of the double page spread. This is because it clearly draws more attention to the main image and improves the layout of the spread.Even though, the top double page spread is more unorganized, which is because that represents the story on her and how she is extremely old for her age, hence why the word ‘child’ is in bold white letters, to show that she is still a child. The word contrasts highly with the background, unlike the most of the text because it is more important. Similarly, the large ‘L’ has the same effect. It represents the subject without stating the full name. The ‘L’ also makes for a relative and simple background for the double page spread.

Colour Schemes

Most magazines stick to a certain theme when designing the front cover. They usually match the costume and the font of the text to the background. The costume and the background are generally matched up according to the subject and their persona or image in the outside world.
