MY SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

THROUGH MY AS YEARThis slide will go through the differences between my prelim film I made at the beginning of the year and

my latest and final teen film, it will also show how the skills I picked up improved my film presentation

INTRO COMPARISON The first comparison is that in my prelim film there is no distribution of production

ident only this is displayed

However in my final teen film the first images to appear on the screen were the production and distribution ident

Issues in my prelim film and how I rectified these problems Throughout the film many extraneous sounds interfered into the dialogue this

created significant problems, the main problem was that crucial dialogue was not heard at all, the second problem was, the film was not at all professional like because the sounds heard did not have anything to do with the story. However from this I learnt that in order to achieve near perfect sound quality I would have to use an additional microphone that is added onto the top of the camera, so I used the additional mic to record my voiceover in my final film, this created perfect sound quality

The frames in my prelim lagged quite a lot this resulted in the film running slow, this meant the film was un-enjoyable to watch

As you can see there are issues in lighting here, there is an issue in exposure the character can not be seen in detail only a silhouette

However I rectified this problem by observing the LCD screen on the camera which signifies when the exposure is wrong by displaying lines across the screen, I used this technique in my latest movie, all shots did not have any exposure issues

How my editing/camera skills improved

In my prelim film some of the shots appeared to have too much headroom for the main character and in some shots the characters head was cut off, this gave the impression that the film was amateur

Head appears to be cut off at top of the screen

In my final film I took this criticism on board and made sure that this mistake was not repeated again

What I included in final film that I didn’t know how to in my prelim

The first form of media I learnt how to incorporate was music, in my final film the music was important as it made it clear that there was a opposition between the characters, it created a binary opposition which is exactly what I needed

The way in which I done this was i had to research my desired song on soundcloud via creative commons in order to avoid any copyright infringement I had to convert the sound file from an mp3 to a AIIFF file through ‘audio converter’ a program which I also learnt to use, the music was then added to my film through final cut pro, a film editing programFinal cut

pro

When I first started the editing of the film I imported all the clips into final cut pro, something which I learned prior to making the film. Next i had to cut the clips as some clips contained content that I did not require, also the clips needed to be shortened to make the opening seem less prolonged and more interesting. Towards the completion of editing i decided to add pictures to the opening which I also learnt whilst making the film,in order to highlight the character lifestyles and events which took place prior to now.

In comparison: in my prelim no music, pictures or match cutting was added, this made the film boring and unenjoyably however in my latest film I took the opportunity to use music that suited the characters, match cutting and dissolving in order to make the shots and film seamless this increases levels of professionalism and entertainment it also helps me create a much needed binary opposition

In conclusion In conclusion the three main aspects of media I

learn how to use properly were, final cut pro for the making of my film i.e editing, cutting and importing the recorded film clips , the second form of media was learning how to incorporate music into my film which added a lot of insight about the characters and entertainment to the film, finally the most important one was learning to film to a professional extent by including many different shot types as such
