  • The story of Turin• The city origins date back in the third century BC when tribes of Celtic-Ligurian

    origin settled along the banks of the Po River

    • With the Romans the city took the name of Augusta Taurinorum and became an important Roman outpost to control the Gauls.

    • With the fall of the Roman Empire the Barbarian invasions began until the arrival of the Lombards and then the domination of the Franks.

    • In the Middle Ages Turin became a free municipality and continued to side with those who supported the independence from the Savoy dynasty that had strengthened their domination in the French and Italian territories.

  • MOLE ANTONELLIANA

    It is a building located in the historical center and the symbol of the city and Italy. The name comes from the fact that in the past it was the tallest building in Europe. Alessandro Antonelli designed it.

    Now it hosts the Museum of Cinema.

  • One of the most important thing for the Turin's citizens: FOOTBALL

    • It is the city with the most awarded Italian football teams (31 league titles for Juventus FC and Torino FC, 7 Italian league cups for Juventus FC and 5 for Torino FC)

  • The first metro with VAL system

    • The Turin metro is the first in Italy to adopt the VAL system, Automatic Light Vehicle, designed to ensure maximum safety through a system of Automatic Train Control (ATC) fully automated , that is to say, withoutthe use of personnel fixed on the trains and in the station.

  • 2. It is the Italian capital of publishing and Liberty Style

    • Einaudi, Bollati Boringhieri, the UTET are just some of the publishers from Turin.

    • In 1902, the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative Art was held in Turin so more and more buildings were built in Turin in the Liberty Style. Two examples of this style are the beautiful Casa Fenoglio - La Fleur and the House of Dragons.

  • In 1910 the Savoy city held the first rugby match in Italy, played between the Racing Club de France in Paris and Servette Geneva. Also in Turin the first Italian rugby club was born.

  • 4. The first airmail stamp

    The first airmail stamp in the world was published in May 1917 for an experiment airmail service from Turin to Rome (and vice versa). The stamps were sold only in those two cities. It was only valid for this experiment.

  • 5. The first film

    • In March 1896 in Turin the first film was shown, precisely in a building in Via Po. In Turin the first multiplex cinema was created in 1983 (Eliseo).

  • Typical food in Turin and Piedmont

    The bagnacauda, a hot sauce in which you dip raw and cooked vegetables of all kinds; Gnocchi with Castelmagno; tomini, small forms of fresh cheese; bicerin, a mixture of coffee, chocolate and panna. Turin is home to breadsticks, very different from those of industrial production, which are sold in all Italian supermarkets. In Turin the habit of an aperitif was started, a buffet of cold and hot appetisers which allow you to eat and drink a wide meal at a small price.
