With a partner, generate a list of attributes of a ‘learner’ in a math classroom. (e.g., What do you see them doing?)
1. Form groups of three.
2. Sort your classroom descriptions into two stacks: Student actions Learner actions
3. Transform each ‘student’ action into a ‘learner’ action by creating a new assignment
4. Select your favorite transformation to share.
The goal of the game is to be the first player to reach 100.
On your turn, roll the dice as many times as you would like, mentally keeping a running total of the sum. When you decide to stop rolling, record your total for that turn and add it to the total from any previous turns.
If a 1 comes up on one of the dice, your turn is over and you score 0 points for that round. If you roll a 1 on both dice, you lose your turn and ALL points.
Select a unit. Give clues about your unit until someone guesses what it is.
mile centimeter poundgram
inch kilometer cup decade
quart milligram foot liter
1. Two players lay out 13 color tiles.2. Players take turns removing 1 or 2 tiles at a time.3. The player who takes the last tile is the Last Survivor and wins the game.
Play several games of Last Survivor.
Be ready to talk about good moves and bad moves.
1. Use the tools around the room to measure your height in decimeters and your foot length in centimeters.
2. Record your measurements on the class scatter plot.
3. Look for any correlation. Be ready to explain how you know.
