SYSTEM DESIGN

The City of Strongsville decided to develop a sewer and water GIS system. This system will then be expanded and shared with all city departments.

Chagrin Valley Engineering, Ltd (CVE) was awarded the contract to design, build, and install, the GIS system.

Where will we get the information for the sewer & water systems?◦ Plan sheets that are kept in a digital image library.

The library was created using a program named Laserfiche.◦ Good system for retrieving and viewing the plan

sheets.◦ Lacks an indexing system for a “back-end”

connection to GIS.

A TWO STEP PROCESS

GEO-REFERENCINGA plan sheet TIF is selected and cropped to an “Area of Interest”.

The cropped image is imported into ArcGIS & Geo-referenced to the parcel layer.
