Jack Everly CONDUCTOR/CHEF D’ORCHESTRE

Jack Everly is the Principal Pops Conductor

of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the

Indianapolis and Baltimore Symphony

Orchestras and the Naples Philharmonic

Orchestra. He has conducted the Los

Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood

Bowl, The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall

and appears regularly with The Cleveland

Orchestra at Blossom Music Center. This

year, he will conduct over 90 performances

in more than 20 North American cities.

As Music Director of the National

Memorial Day Concert and A Capitol Fourth

on PBS, he proudly leads the National

Symphony Orchestra in these celebrations

on the National Mall. Originally appointed

by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Mr. Everly was

conductor of the American Ballet Theatre

for 14 years, where he served as Music

Director. In addition to his ABT tenure, he

teamed with Marvin Hamlisch on Broadway

shows that Mr. Hamlisch scored.

In 1998, Jack Everly created the

Symphonic Pops Consortium, serving as

Music Director. The Consortium, based

in Indianapolis, produces new theatrical

pops programs, including this season’s

Broadway Divas.

Maestro Everly is a proud resident of

the Indianapolis community and when not

on the podium you can find him at home

with his family which includes Max the

wonder dog.

Jack Everly est le premier chef des

concerts Pops de l’Orchestre du CNA, des

orchestres symphoniques d’Indianapolis

et de Baltimore, ainsi que de l’Orchestre

philharmonique de Naples en Floride.

Il a dirigé l’Orchestre philharmonique

de Los Angeles au Hollywood Bowl et le

a été pendant 14 ans chef d’orchestre et

directeur musical de l’American Ballet

Theatre (ABT), nommé à ce poste par

Mikhaïl Barychnikov. Pendant son mandat

à l’ABT, il a aussi collaboré avec Marvin

Hamlisch à des spectacles de Broadway

que ce dernier a mis en musique.

En 1998, Jack Everly a créé le

Symphonic Pops Consortium dont il est le

directeur musical. Établi à Indianapolis, ce

consortium produit des programmes pops

à caractère théâtral, comme le concert

Divas de Broadway, présenté cette saison.

Le maestro Everly est un fier résidant

d’Indianapolis qui aime bien passer du bon

temps à la maison avec sa famille, dont fait

partie un chien incomparable répondant au

Former conductor of the Vienna Boys’

Choir, Laurence Ewashko begins his 27th

season of choral activity in the National

Capital Region. As a choral clinician, vocal

pedagogue and adjudicator, he makes a

significant contribution to the quality and

appreciation of vocal music in Canada and

abroad. Many of his voice students have

established successful careers on the

operatic stage.

A graduate of the University of Ottawa,

Mr. Ewashko completed six years of

post-graduate studies at the Hochschule

für Musik und darstellende Kunst and

the Conservatory of Music in Vienna,

Austria, with the assistance of the Canada

Council. He has prepared choruses for

many prestigious conductors, including

Sir Colin Davis, Trevor Pinnock, Mario

Bernardi, Gabriel Chmura and Jane Glover,

and he regularly prepares choruses for

performances at the NAC. Mr. Ewashko has

also been chorus master and vocal coach

for The Banff Centre for the Arts summer

programs, and was the music director

of the Cantata Singers for 17 years. He is

a recipient of the prestigious Leslie Bell

Award for choral conducting.

Currently Associate Professor of Choral

Studies at the University of Ottawa, Mr.

Ewashko conducts the School of Music’s

two choirs. He conducted Opera Lyra

Ottawa’s chorus since 1988.

Ancien chef de chœur des Petits chanteurs

de Vienne, Laurence Ewashko en est à

sa 27e saison d’activités chorales dans la

région de la capitale nationale. Il œuvre

à faire connaître et aimer une musique

vocale de qualité, au Canada et à l’étranger,

grâce à ses talents d’animateur d’ateliers

choraux, de professeur de chant et de

membre de jury. Nombre de ses anciens

élèves mènent de brillantes carrières sur

la scène opératique.

Diplômé de l’Université d’Ottawa,

M. Ewashko a poursuivi pendant six ans

des études supérieures à la Hochschule

für Musik und darstellende Kunst et au

Conservatoire de musique de Vienne, en

Autriche, grâce à l’appui du Conseil des arts

du Canada. Maître de chœur et répétiteur

dans le cadre de programmes artistiques

estivaux du Banff Centre, directeur

musical des Cantata Singers pendant 17

Bell pour chefs de chœur, il a préparé des

chœurs pour de nombreux grands chefs

Ottawa Choral Society Société chorale d’OttawaOne of Canada’s most preeminent

symphonic choruses, the Ottawa Choral

Society is recognized for its artistic

excellence, entertaining and adventurous

programming, and for its nurturing of the

vocal arts through its ambitious emerging

artists and composers initiatives. The

choir attracts its membership from

advanced choral musicians across the

National Capital Region, and as far afield

as Deep River, who are drawn to its annual

subscription concerts of diverse musical

genres, accompanied by Ottawa’s leading

instrumentalists and the illustrious artists

and rising stars it invites to its stage.

A regular guest of the NAC Orchestra,

and a frequent collaborative partner of the

Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, the Society

has made five international tours which

have taken it to Italy, Spain, East Germany,

the Czech Republic and the U.K. In the

Millennium Year, BBC TV followed the choir

from Ottawa to Belfast in a documentary

which was widely broadcast.

In 2015-16, the Society celebrates

75 years at the heart of Ottawa’s vibrant

cultural life with guest appearances by

former Music Directors and thrilling

guest artists. The season culminates

on June 17 with Mendelssohn’s Elijah, a

signature piece in the choir’s long tradition,

presented in partnership with the NAC

Comptant parmi les chœurs symphoniques

les plus en vue au Canada, la Société chorale

d’Ottawa (SCO) est reconnue pour son

excellence artistique, sa programmation

divertissante et audacieuse, et son fervent

soutien aux chanteurs et aux compositeurs

de la relève. L’ensemble est formé de

choristes de haut niveau provenant d’un

bout à l’autre de la région de la capitale

nationale — s’étirant jusqu’à Deep River.

Il propose chaque saison des concerts en

formule d’abonnement explorant divers

genres musicaux, pour lesquels il s’entoure

de brillants instrumentistes d’Ottawa,

ainsi que d’artistes illustres et d’étoiles

montantes.

Le chœur se produit régulièrement avec

l’Orchestre du CNA et est un partenaire

assidu de l’Orchestre symphonique

d’Ottawa. Il a effectué cinq tournées

internationales qui l’ont mené en Italie, en

Espagne, en Allemagne (de l’Est à l’époque),

en République tchèque et au Royaume-Uni.

En 2000, la caméra de télévision de la BBC

l’a suivi en tournée entre Ottawa et Belfast,

et a réalisé à son sujet un documentaire qui

a connu une large diffusion.

Pour la saison 2015-2016, qui marque

ses 75 ans de présence au cœur de la

vibrante scène culturelle d’Ottawa, la

SCO accueillera comme artistes invités

d’anciens directeurs musicaux de

l’ensemble et d’autres interprètes fabuleux.

Le chœur présentera en clôture de saison

(le 17 juin 2016) une œuvre signature

figurant depuis longtemps à son répertoire,

Élias de Mendelssohn, en partenariat avec

l’Orchestre du CNA.

Ottawa Festival Chorus Chœur en fête d’OttawaLaurence Ewashko & Duain Wolfe DIRECTORS/CHEFS DE CHŒUR

The Ottawa Festival Chorus is a select

community-based choir comprised of

independent choristers and members of

many of Ottawa’s fine local and university

choirs. Led by Duain Wolfe and Laurence

Ewashko, the Chorus made their debut

in 2006, together with the Vancouver

Chamber Choir, for performances of

Bach’s Mass in B minor with the National

Arts Centre Orchestra. The choir was

recently featured in Malcolm Forsyth’s

A Ballad of Canada, Beethoven’s Ninth

Symphony and The Music of John

Williams. Next February, they will sing in

Brahms’s Requiem.

choristes indépendants et des membres

de divers chœurs talentueux de la région.

En 2006, sous la direction de Duain Wolfe

et de Laurence Ewashko, l’ensemble a

fait ses débuts aux côtés du Vancouver

mineur de Bach avec l’Orchestre du

CNA. Récemment, on a également pu

l’applaudir dans A Ballad of Canada de

Manon St-Jules HOST/ANIMATRICE

Since graduating from the National

Theatre School of Canada, Manon St-Jules

has been leading a bilingual career,

performing in classical and contemporary

plays for big and small companies in

Toronto (Canadian Stage, Festival of

Classics, Theatre Direct, Pleaides), in

Montreal (Théâtre Denise Pelletier,

Centaur Theatre, Compagnie à Numéro)

and in Sudbury (Sudbury Theatre Centre,

le Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario). In Ottawa,

she’s performed for the NAC, the Great

Canadian Theatre Company, Arts Court

and Théâtre la Catapulte, and she

regularly hosts concerts with the NAC

Orchestra. Her work on-camera includes

dramatic as well as comedic parts in film,

television and commercials, as well as

various multimedia projects. Selected

credits include : Il était une fois dans le

trouble (Vrak), Vies parallèles (CanalD),

Inheriting Trouble (Discovery), 20h17, rue

Darling (feature), Les deux pieds dans

la marge (SRC), Les Bougons (SRC),

Depuis qu’elle a décroché son diplôme de

l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada,

Manon St-Jules poursuit une carrière en

théâtre classique et contemporain, tant en

anglais qu’en français. Elle collabore avec

des petites et grandes compagnies, aussi

Tobi Hunt McCoySEASON STAGE MANAGER/RÉGISSEUSE DE LA SAISON

Tobi Hunt McCoy is enjoying another year

as Season Stage Manager with the National

Arts Centre Orchestra. In past seasons,

Ms. McCoy stage managed the Lord of

the Rings Symphony, Mendelssohn’s

A Midsummer Night’s Dream with

Christopher Plummer in 2001 and

Colm Feore in 2014, and much of the

Orchestra’s educational and Pops pro-

gramming. Last season she co-produced

the Pops show On the Air with Jack Everly

for the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, a

show they also produced in 2007 for the

NAC Orchestra.

Additional professional duties have

included bracing the backstage doors

against the almighty power of Richard

Strauss, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the

air conditioning system at Montreal’s La

Maison Symphonique, guest conducting

the NAC Orchestra in rehearsal for the

Black & White Opera Soiree, providing air-

guitar support during the Led Zeppelin

tribute concert, shepherding numerous

choruses to and from the rehearsal hall,

utilising her creative Vancouver French with

the combined choral and orchestral forces

in Mahler’s Eighth Symphony, and duck

wrangling for the Mysterioso Pops concert.

She is excited to be back teaching

English and Drama at Lisgar Collegiate.

Comme régisseuse, Mme Hunt McCoy a

fait un peu de tout : bloqué les portes de

l’arrière-scène de la Maison symphonique

de Montréal pour faire échec au pouvoir

tout-puissant de Richard Strauss, de

Yannick Nézet-Séguin et du système de

climatisation; dirigé l’Orchestre du CNA

durant une répétition de la Soirée d’opéra

Noir et Blanc; joué de la guitare imaginaire

dans un concert hommage à Led Zeppelin;

accompagné de nombreux chœurs dans

leurs allées et venues à l’arrière-scène;

exercé avec créativité son français de

Vancouvéroise avec l’ensemble combiné

chœur et orchestre dans la Huitième

symphonie de Mahler; et fait la guerre à

un canard dans le cadre du concert Pops

Mysterioso.

Cette année encore, elle prend plaisir

à enseigner l’anglais et l’art dramatique au
