The Office of Career Services (OCS) invites employers, alumni, parents, community members and Claremont Colleges faculty and staff to present professional development seminars to Harvey Mudd students. Our Beyond the Bubble program is in keeping with the College’s mission to educate students so they may assume leadership roles in their fields with a clear understanding of their work’s impact on society. Mudders benefit tremendously from diverse speakers who contribute to undergraduate professional development.

The seminars are offered both fall and spring semesters and are held during the lunch or dinner hours. They are typically offered for 45 minutes but can be longer depending on the topic. The seminars are organized into five series: 1) Bubbling Over: Landing Your Dream Internship or Job; 2) Thought Bubbles: Test Your Career IQ; 3) Bubble Up: Personal Bootstrapping; 4) Bursting the Bubble: Real Advice for the Mudd-to-World Transition; and 5) Economic Bubble: Adventures in Finance.

The structure can be a formal presentation made by an individual, team or panel, or it can be an informal conversation. It is best to make some portion of the seminar interactive and to allow time for Q-and-A.

The OCS encourages student clubs and organizations to co-sponsor Beyond the Bubble seminars.
