Day by Day ItinerarySaturday, August 15 – WAYNE / FAIRBANKSEarly this morning we depart Wayne by private motor coach for the drive to Omaha’s Eppley Airport in preparation for our scheduled airline flights to Fairbanks, Alaska. On arrival and after claiming our luggage, we’ll meet our local representative for the transfer to our downtown hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure. Located near the confluence of the Tanana and Chena Rivers, Fairbanks was founded in the early 1900’s as a trading post serving stern-wheeler riverboats and early gold prospectors, earning the city the nickname of the “Golden Heart City.”

Sunday, August 16 – FAIRBANKS (Discovery Riverboat & Gold Dredge No. 8) (B,D)Our day will begin with a scenic cruise down the Chena and Tanana rivers aboard the authentic old-time stern-wheel riverboat, the “Discovery.” Since 1950, the Binkley family has operated riverboat cruises in Fairbanks, and today we’ll cruise out into nature with third and fourth-generation captains to experience the area’s history and beauty firsthand. We’ll also tour with native Alaskans in their traditional village and meet some of the pioneers who call this land home. Afterward, we’ll learn about Fairbank’s glittering gold rush history as we tour Gold Dredge No. 8 and pan for some color of our own. Although the dredge stopped working in 1959 after removing 7.5 million ounces of gold from Goldstream Valley, old miner’s tales still linger on today! Before returning to our hotel, we’ll enjoy an up-close view of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and learn about its construction and operation.

Tonight, we’re in for a real treat as we join in on an Alaska Salmon Bake. Bring a hearty appetite for this all-you-can-eat dinner!

Monday, August 17 – FAIRBANKS / DENALI (B,D)This morning we depart Fairbanks aboard the Alaska Railroad for the journey south to Denali National Park and Preserve. The park was established as Mount McKinley National Park on February 26, 1917. The original park was designated a wilderness area and incorporated into Denali National Park and Preserve in 1980, and today it is the largest continually protected natural ecosystem in the world. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the spectacular scenery as we travel through the six million acres of mountains, forests, rivers and valleys that make up the park’s boundaries.

This evening we’ll attend the Denali Cabin Nite Dinner Theatre. Savor a family-style platter of salmon, chicken, and marinated ribs followed by the historical musical based on the life of Fannie, an adventuresome woman who left Wahoo, Nebraska to find fame and fortune in Alaska.

Tuesday, August 18 – DENALI (Tundra Wilderness Tour) (B,S)Today we’ll enjoy a Tundra Wilderness Tour, an excellent way to spot the wildlife for which Alaska is so famous: moose, bear, wolves, caribou, Dall sheep and more. Fully narrated by a naturalist, the tour travels 53 miles into Denali National Park to the Toklat River. The tour focuses on scouting out the wildlife in the park in addition to explaining the historical and geographical background of the area, and if the clouds permit, a view of the mighty Mt. McKinley, the tallest peak on the North American continent.

Wednesday, August 19 – DENALI / CRUISING (B,D)This morning we depart Denali and travel south along the Parks Highway threading our way through the land of the midnight sun, a wilderness ramble revealing the many facets of Mt. McKinley. Along the way, we’ll stop at Mile 147.2 to visit the Alaska Veterans Memorial, a remembrance to the veterans of Alaska who have served our country at home and abroad. Next, we’ll set our sights on the town of Wasilla

to visit the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Museum where a video lets us experience “The Last Great Race on Earth.” And, for the adventurous travelers in our group, a chance to take a sled dog ride down the trail. Afterward, we’ll continue our journey south, bypassing Anchorage on our way to the port community of Whittier.

From the moment we depart Whittier, you’ll know this will be a vacation to treasure forever. Bracing sea air, a wide variety of shipboard activities and renewed friendships all combine to welcome us to the cruising experience. It’s easy to see why the Voyage of the Glaciers sailing is the top-rated Alaska cruise vacation. We’ll enjoy two glacier viewing experiences - including Glacier Bay Nation-al Park, before sailing through Alaska’s Inside Passage en route to welcoming frontier ports.

Thursday, August 20 – CRUISING (Hubbard Glacier) (B,L,D)This morning we sail across the Gulf of Alaska, an arm of the Pacific Ocean defined by the curve of the southern coast of Alaska, stretching from the Alaska Peninsula and Kodiak Island in the west to the Alexander Archipelago in the east – home to spectacular Glacier Bay and the famed Inside Passage. The day is at leisure giving us an opportunity to adjust to life onboard the Celebrity Millennium. Start your day with an invigorating walk along open broad decks of the ship or visit the fitness center. Then immerse yourself in local culture by sitting in on a lecture about nature and the folklore surrounding our upcoming ports of call. And don’t forget the nightlife, starting with multiple restaurant choices followed by everything imaginable from a quiet evening in the library to late night entertainment in the Broadway-style theater or casino.

This afternoon we sail to Hubbard Glacier. Imagine coming face to face with a gigantic wall of ice that fills your view and extends for miles in either direction. It’s a titan on the move, advancing faster than almost any other glacier on the continent. By the time it reaches Disenchantment Bay, the imposing architecture of this five-mile-long behemoth towers 40 stories high. As we glide along its looming mass, watch for seals afloat on the ice, listen for the glacier’s loud, deep rumble and wait for the mighty crack followed by the thunderous crash. Then marvel as icebergs as large as buildings topple into the sea.

Friday, August 21 – CRUISING (Glacier Bay National Park) (B,L,D)Today you cruise through Glacier Bay National Park which has more actively calving tidewater glaciers than anywhere else in the world. How does it feel when a monumental chunk off ice splits off a glacier and crashes into the sea? The sound is like thunder and the impact shoots water hundreds of feet into the air. You hold your breath as you catch the moment on film, then you wait for it to all happen again. And it does. You’ll cruise from the Reid and Lamplugh glaciers to the mighty Johns Hopkins, then linger for a full hour at Grand Pacific and Margerie glaciers for the grandest spectacle of them all. Margerie is an Ice Age giant a mile wide and 25 stories high. Here we’ll marvel at nature’s unrelenting power as we witness the birth of one massive iceberg after another.

Saturday, August 22 – CRUISING (Skagway) (B,L,D)This morning we dock in Skagway, the northern-most port of call on Alaska’s Inside Passage. Referred to as the “roughest town on earth” with over 80 saloons, Skagway is the city that 40,000 gold-seeking fortune hunters made famous as the starting point of their incredible trek over either the Chikoot Pass or the legendary White Pass. Explore the wooden sidewalks and visit the well-stocked shops on Main Street where every building facade has been handsomely restored to the glory days of the past. Stroll down Broadway, part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Park, and be sure stop in at the playfully “naughty” Red Onion, a watering hole circa 1898.

Sunday, August 23 – CRUISING (Juneau) (B,L,D)Today our port of call is Alaska’s capital city of Juneau. Located at the foot of grand mountain peaks on the Gastineau Channel, we can step ashore to shop for gold nuggets, visit the stately Governor’s Mansion and saunter through the swinging doors of the Red Dog Saloon, the city’s famous watering hole. Nearby, you can visit mighty Mendenhall Glacier, the world’s most photographed glacier, or hop aboard the Mt. Roberts Tramway for breathtaking views of Southeast Alaska.

Monday, August 24 – CRUISING (Ketchikan) (B,L,D)Our port of call today is the “salmon capital of the world”, better known as Ketchikan, the southernmost port of call on the famed Inside Passage. With 3,000-foot-high Deer Mountain looming behind, there never was much room for Ketchikan to expand, so much of the town is built on trestles, docks and pilings at water’s edge. Explore historic Creek Street, now a covey of contemporary art galleries and quaint boutiques, or meet the spirits of the raven, whale and eagle while viewing the largest collection of totems in the world at Totem Bight State Historical Park.

Tuesday, August 25 – CRUISING (Inside Passage) (B,L,D)Today we cruise through the famous Inside Passage, the scenic waterway that reaches 1,000 miles from historic Skagway to beautiful British Columbia. From the broad decks of the ship and its many lounges with picture windows, we’ll have an unobstructed view of nature’s daylong show while gliding through a maze of bays, straits, arms and fjords; a panorama interrupted only by the sightings of whales and sea lions frolicking in the waters around us. This is Alaska, one of the most naturally beautiful places on earth!

Wednesday, August 26 – CRUISING / WAYNE (B)Early this morning we sail under the Lion’s Gate Bridge as Vancouver’s dramatic skyline draws us to Canada Place Pier. Following disembarkation, we’ll board our private motor coach for the transfer to Vancouver International Airport in preparation for the return journey to Wayne. No better time to reflect on memories to last a lifetime and celebrate the beginning of new friendships made along the way!
