ABOUT COURSE DIRECTOR:

OVERSEAS FACULTY

Dr. John E. Herzenberg is Director of Orthopedics at Sinai Hospital. Dr. Herzenberg trained in limb lengthening directly with Professor Ilizarov in the USSR in 1989 and subsequently in Lecco, Italy, with Professor Maurizio Catagni.

Dr. Herzenberg co-founded the Maryland Center for Limb Lengthening & Reconstruction at Kernan Hospital. He later co-founded the International

Center for Limb Lengthening at Sinai Hospital in 2001. Dr. Herzenberg publishes his research frequently in a variety of orthopedic journals. He lectures throughout the world on topics related to limb lengthening and pediatric orthopedics. He is credited with re-introducing the Ponseti method of conservative clubfoot treatment.

Dr. Herzenberg travels with his family to developing countries such as Nicaragua, Colombia, and Ecuador on yearly Operation Rainbow missions to provide orthopedic care to disabled children.

Dr John Herzenberg is running the world renowned Baltimore Deformity course for last 29 years. The course has trained thousands of surgeons over the year and continues to be the most popular limb deformity course among surgeons. Dr Herzenberg and his team will be conducting the course for the first time in India and are looking forward to a great interactive crowd

Michael J. Assayag, M.D., F.R.C.S.C., is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult limb lengthening and deformity surgery, bow leg, knock-knee and rotational deformity correction. He performs pediatric and adult limb lengthening, limb reconstruction and foot and ankle procedures. He also treats traumatic injuries and bone and joint infections.

He earned his medical degree at Laval University in Quebec City, Canada, and completed his orthopedic surgery residency training there as well. He received fellowship specialty training in pediatric and adult limb lengthening and deformity correction here at the International Center for Limb Lengthening. Most recently, Dr. Assayag completed additional fellowship specialty training in adult foot and ankle and limb reconstruction at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He is a Fellow of the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.

Ÿ An Art of Limb Alignment Textbook Understanding limb alignment and malalignment is a critical task for surgeons who treat lower extremity deformities. The Art of Limb Alignment is a concise guide for beginners who are starting on their journey to master limb deformity correction concepts. The Art of Limb Alignment is the official book of the annual Baltimore Limb Deformity Course, which has been held for more than 29 years.

Ÿ Multiplier AppThis free app predicts values at maturity (upper and lower limb length discrepancy, bone length, lower extremity length, height, and epiphysiodesis timing). A special Training for use of the app will be conducted in the course.

Ÿ Bone Ninja iPad AppThis iPad app teaching tool was developed by Drs. Standard and Herzenberg at the International Center for Limb Lengthening, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. The Bone Ninja is designed to help surgeons analyze deformities. Note: Please bring your iPad. If you do not own an iPad, you will be able to rent one for three days (advanced reservation required). All registrants of the three-day Lower Limb Deformity Course will receive the Bone Ninja app at Nominal Rate .
