MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTORS

Dear Friends of Senior Care Volunteer Network,

This past year was a very good one for SCVN. We brought in a number of new volunteers, particularly in the outlying areas of the county like Marengo and Harvard, we increased our private donations from last year and we welcomed several new board and office team members as well.

As most of you know, the senior population continues to grow both nationally and in our community. In 2011, 10,000 baby boom-ers a day starting turning 65 and this trend continues. McHenry County has the fourth fastest growing senior population in the state of Illinois and another study revealed that the population here will increase 157% by 2030.

With these numbers in mind, it is not surpris-ing that we have seen a direct impact on our program as well. For example, since last year we have experienced a 32% increase in shop-ping requests, a 79% increase in volunteer hours devoted to respite relief, more than 10,000 were miles driven than last year and we also saw a 50% increase in the number of contacts with seniors. To continue to support our no-cost services and these increases, we held more fundrais-ing events than ever before. The Paint and Sip event was very successful and Taste of Mexico on May 14 was a great deal of fun, especially with Ballet Folklorico as the enter-tainment. Special thanks for the continued support we received from all of our generous donors,

sponsors, grantors and supporters. Without you, our program and the services we proivde to seniors would not be possible! And of course, we have to send a special thanks out to our dedicated volunteers as well who are out everyday making a differ-ence in the lives of seniors in need. In our last fiscal year our 300+ volunteers drove over 181,000 miles and gave nearly 17,000 hours to assist more than 900 local seniors. Our volunteers saved seniors and their families almost $420,000! Just a reminder that we are always in need of dedicated volunteers and board members. Volunteer drivers are also in high demand, particulary in Woodstock. Whether you work, stay at home or are retired, just an hour of your time—once a week or once a month—can have a tremendous impact in the life of a senior and in your life as well. As always, your time, generosity and willingness to serve is deeply appreciated! We had a successful 2014-2015 and we are confident that we will have an even better 2016 with your help and support. Thank you to everyone for all that you did for SCVN in the last year! Happy Holidays!

Suzanne Martinez Board Chair

Sarah PonitzExecutive Director

Sincerely,

HELPING SENIORS MAINTAIN THEIR INDEPENDENCE

Senior Care Volunteer Network motivates and inspires volunteers to provide services to our senior neighbors who need a little help to maintain their independence and remain in their own homes. Volunteers give the gift of a lift, help with grocery shopping, visit with and telephone care receivers, help with yard work and provide care giver relief through non-medical respite care. We also loan durable medical equipment through our four DME closets in the county. All of our services are free and are available to any senior, 60 years of age and older, who lives at home or with a loved one in McHenry County or Sun City, Huntley.

While grants from important sources such as the United Way, McHenry County, The Senior Services Grant, the Mental Health Resource League and many others are vital to our program, partnerships with other community agencies are important as well.
