The January rally was very well attended by 19 mounted members. Helen
Godfrey was terrific, it was a great day and most people were assessed at their current
levels. This assessment will be current for 2012, for those members assessed they will
not need assessing for TTT events in 2012.
I’m not sure about all fellow Madecians but I am slowly recovering from
holiday syndrome. Nothing like a good break to flush out the cobwebs and start a
new year, albeit that it is now February!! The months are flying by already.....So much
to do. Competitions have already started, Merrijig Rodeo (which we are assisting at),
TTT CT is looming and our much anticipated MADEC HT are just around the
corner. All these events are a huge part of the first quarter of the year. We are looking
forward to some fantastic results both inspirational and financial from these events.
Good luck to all involved.
Once everyone is out on the Competition, Rally day or special events trail
could you all remember to forward photo’s and results and a few words about the
event to Amanda before the end of the month for the following issue of the
newsletter.
The committee are madly trying to organise members to assist on the Merrijig
Rodeo weekend and the MADEC Horse Trials event on the Saturday of April 13th.
Pony Club have their HT on the Sunday, so if you can assist at both or you know of
someone who can, could you please contact Kerryn asap. Kerryn has forwarded an
email with some positions already filled, if you would like to nominate yourself for a
job, get in quick as all the good ones will go early.
MADEC now has a new fridge, thanks to Robyn Reed who sourced a fridge
from Maindample, it works a treat and due to the gift of the gab we acquired the said
item at a very reasonable price, and delivered for free. Watch out for the next
celebration!! Now for the bar.....
To all those new Mum’s to be out there, we are still thinking of you. Wishing
you all a relaxing time before the big event. Tamara I believe is first cab off the rank,
then Nic and Bri. Also to Perrin who sustained a kick, we hope you are healing
fast and will be back on Larry soon. Welcome to our new members
Kate Bergmuller, Denise Kramarczuk, Kate Sargeant and
Nicole Nye.

It was great to be back at a rally and Kerryn did a wonderful job organising the January Assess-
ment Day and Jane did the lunch. Helen Godfrey travelled from Alexandra and assessed 17
members on the day in dressage, showjumping and cross country. Everyone had a great day
but unfortunately with jumping comes some spills. Luckily, no-one was badly injured and all in
all everyone had a great day

A number of members participated in the Greyowen, horse trials run annually at Gooding property in Dundas Court. It is
run each year as a practice event coming into the horse trials season and gives riders a chance to have a practice under
competition conditions. The name Greyowen was chosen as tongue in cheek after the Garryowen combining the names of
Nikki Grey and Kim Owen who run the event (with just a little help from mum Kerryn and grandparents Perrin and Hazel).
Grade 5 saw Daniela Friday riding Oberon do an interesting dressage test with Obe not really wanting to stay in the arena,
and great rounds in the showjumping and cross country to give them 5th placing. Nicole Bertalli rode Bec Hutchinson’s
(potential new member) new pony Apollo and after a scratchy dressage test with Nic telling Apollo he needed to do a Grade
2 test and Apollo wondering what the hell was going on, they did a great showjumping and XC to finish 4th. Vanessa
Matiazzo also rode in the Grade 5 on Bailey and after doing a nice dressage test retired from the jumping as she felt Bailey
wasn’t quite ready yet.
Roslyn Burns entered in the Grade 4 but had to scratch when her float was filled with furniture after a muck up with
settlement dates on her new property. That left Margie Miekle as the only MADEC competitor in Grade 4 up against a gun
bunch of kids. PJ did a lovely dressage test but then in the showjumping decided he didn’t like the XC drums which were
just outside the SJ arena and dumped her off. She continued on and had a couple of stops XC but did manage to get him
over those nasty drums!
Three MADEC rides competed in the Grade 3, Perrin Gooding, Judy Dixon and Lauren Farrell. Lauren on her lovely new
horse Chester led from the beginning with a beautiful dressage test, an unfortunate rail in the showjumping and a flawless
XC to take out first place. We can see a big future for this combination. Perrin also had a rail in the showjumping and a great
XC, with the home ground advantage not much of an advantage given a number of new jumps and some strategically placed
distractions. This pair took out 3rd place. Judy had a few rails showjumping and a great XC getting over her nemesis the
bounce to take out 4th place.
Nikki Grey was the only MADEC competitor in Grade 2 with Nicole Bertalli having to scratch when Frisky developed colic
on the morning of the event. After a nice dressage test, one rail SJ, Snippy did not like the sheep (he had lots of friends
there) but Nikki managed to get him over it with a couple of stops XC and he flew over all the new Grade 2 jumps.
Everyone had a great day and we hope more MADEC members will come along next year.
