TRASH TO TREASURE: A “YARD” SALE FOR LOVERS OF FABRICS AND NOTIONS
During our April 10 meeting, quilters will have opportunity to sell that extra fabric and notions hanging out in your sewing space. And to add more fun, quilters will have the opportunity to purchase the fabric and notions that you’ve just got to have…and at a reasonable, ‘yard sale’ price.
HOW TO BE A “VENDOR”
You must register in advance by 5:00pm Sunday, April 8th. You will be assigned a number. You will have half (½) of an 8-foot-long table.
COST TO PARTICIPATE
It’s an 80-20 split with the guild…no charge for the table.
HOW IT WORKS
Your assigned number and price MUST be on an easily removable sticker/tag on each item that you sell. (Masking tape or blue tape will work). During the sale, “vendors” should remain with their wares and insure buyers’ purchase has your number and price. Remember, this is how you’re going to receive credit for your sale! Buyers Pay for their items at check-out table. You will receive a check for your sales at the May meeting.

Special Note From Charity Quilters
Charity Quilters had a chance to thank Elaine Coats, Secretary for Micah’s Place, for her personal monetary donation to the AIQG. She happily received quilts on behalf of Micah's Place, the certified domestic violence center that serves survivors of domestic violence in Nassau County. Thanks to Sallie Thompson (grey/red), Traute Harris (Pooh) and Mike Polese (hearts) for their lovely quilts for Micah's Place.
L to R: Bonnie Dillard, Maryse O’Brien, Elaine Coats, Secretary for Micah’s Place, Traute Harris, Sharon Wagner, Theresa Megna.
It's time to gather another group of babies and children's quilts for Micah's Place. Mike Polese delivered 14 (4 boy, 4 girl, 6 baby) comfy quilts in January which were warmly received by Micah's Place. If you would like to help our pile grow, consider making a Crib size (36” x 40” to 36” x 52”) or Youth boy or girl lap quilts (40” x 50” to 50” x 60”). Feel free to stop by on a Tuesday morning to check out our fabric stash of flannel, fleece and children's theme fabrics or you can use your fabrics. We hope to grow a large enough pile for another delivery in April.
There is still time to create a child’s quilt for April!

Notes From Our Program Coordinator
Our final technique program of the year, Tuesday, May 8th, “Let’s all Applique” is another hands on experience. We’re lucky to have several master level quilters who use applique in their work. This program features Donna Pearce, Andrea Laurizten, Kathy Charnell and Ellie Boette. Each teacher will show their specific technique and each of you will have an opportunity to practice in this hands-on learning opportunity.
To fully participate here is a list of what to bring for applique program:
Two (2) pieces of contrasting felt, at least 6 x 6 square.
One cut into a simple shape (i.e. heart, tree, circle, oval)
Four (4) 5 x 5 squares of fabric in contrasting colors
Thread
Needle
It would be great if you brought (but not required)
Small, hand iron
Small scissors
Applique Challenge
Enter the Applique Challenge by working the piece you begin at the meeting into a creation and bringing it to the December 2018 Pot Luck where we will select a Best In Show!
October Dying Challenge
And finally, I hope you saved your “Dyeing for Fabrics” creation from our February meeting. Our October Dying Challenge will be to share what you created from your dyed fabrics during our October 2018 meeting. And yes, of course, there will be a prize for the “Best In Show” for both Challenges!!
Community Outreach There are many ways to be involved in the Outreach portion of the Guild. You are welcome to participate in any way that fills you with joy.
Charity Quilters
Kits are available at the meetings, or contact the coordinators. The Charity Quilters (see Small Groups) work on these quilts. People are needed to help rotary cut kits during Charity Quilter meetings and to sew bindings on quilts you can pick up at regular Guild meetings. Theresa Megna (277-2143) and Jenny Chen (310-3610) chair this committee.
Habitat For Humanity Pam Wise (415-5065) chairs this committee that creates bed sized quilts for each Habitat home in Nassau County.
NeoNatal Baby Blankets Placemat size, 18 x 22 up to 30” square, are provided to the NeoNatal unit of UF Health. The blankets are washed at the hospital and sometimes go home with baby or the parents. You may bring these blankets to any meeting and they will be given to Sheri Inserra who works at UF Health and delivers these sweet blankets for us.
Quilts of Valor
Laurie Malm, owner of Lollipops Quilt Shop, has taken on the task of working with the Quilts of Valor program. There are special requirements for a bed sized quilt to qualify for this program and Laurie and her assistants work with the QAV folds so all you have to do is create the quilts in the specified size and materials. QAV provides quilts for wounded service men and women; preferred size is 55" X 65" up to 60" X 80"; masculine quilts are especially in demand; Laurie provides the special labels, but a hand written note, perhaps just saying thank-you to the service member, and a presentation pillowcase are requested. See http://www.qovf.org for full details.
Ryan’s Case For Smiles
Ryan’s Case for Smiles helps with the stress and emotional impact of illness for children hospitalized because of life threatening disease. These whimsical pillowcases give children an emotional boost during a very trying time in their lives. Our Guild has spearheaded the production in our area creating and donating hundreds and hundreds of pillowcases
We have held Sew-Ins in coordination with Lollipops Quilt Shop and Jax QuiltFest has offered a day of free admission when you volunteer to sew pillowcases for an hour at the show!
Bring pillowcases you make at home to any meeting. Barbara Nasworth (261-7924) is chair of this committee. For size specifications go to http://caseforsmiles.org and check out YouTube for ingenious ways to make pillowcases fast!
Small Groups
Small groups give you the opportunity to work closely with other members
of the Guild outside of the meeting…great fun and fast friendships are
