Birthday Box Club

If you would like to join the awesome Birthday Box Club, please contact Ronna Hammel and she will send you the form to fill out. It is so much fun and a great way to get some fabrics that you probably don’t have.

Quarter Up March

April showers bring May flowers. For our April meeting we need you to shower us

in floral fat quarters for them to bloom into quilts in May. A fat quarter is half

width of a half yard or 18" x 20-22". For every fat quarter given, you get a ticket

for a chance to win 4.

Secret Sisters

Don’t forget to bring your wonderful brown paper bag with

that special present for your Secret Sister. A reminder that

there will be a Secret Sister’s exchange. The reveal will be in

May. If you haven’t participated in Secret Sister consider

doing it next year. It is a lot of fun and a great way to get to

know your fellow Quilters.

April Guild Meeting

This months topic is adding paint to your fabric as a substrate to your quilting.

Our speaker is award winning Fiber Artist Sherri Lipman McCauley. Sherri

brings her life experiences together in the creation of her artwork.

Watching her mother sew clothing for her sister and self was a big part of her childhood.

For her ‘sweet sixteen’, she received a sewing machine. As the years went on, she

continued to stitch, making clothing to wear as a teenager. As an adult, she picked up

quilting and continued to create wearables.

After attending a host of different technique classes, McCauley found her niche in the

art cloth community.

McCauley enjoys working extemporaneously and in the abstract. Bright colors tend to

excite her, as well as geometry and asymmetry. She typically works in the moment, with

paints and dyes on fabric, creating improvised designs. The simple line of a geometric

shape, the blast of a colorful line, or the contrast of black against white makes her

canvas sing.

Sherri was recently awarded First Place in the Round Rock Arts 2018 Imagine competition in the

Fiber Art Category. The exhibit closes May 4. It is at Texas State University Round Rock

Campus.

One of her pieces was also selected among all worldwide submission in the SAQA exhibit of

Metamorphosis which will be on display at the 2018 Houston Quilt Festival show. Sherri lives in

Lakeway and is a member of the Austin Fiber Artists association.

If you have anything you've highlighted with paint or dye, be it major or minor, why not show us

the work at show and tell?

LOVE AND COMFORT QUILTS

.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS

CONTRIBUTED TO LOVE AND COMFORT QUILTS

We are still collecting 16 patch blocks made by using 2 ½” squares. It

would be great if you could make them colorful since most of our quilts

will be going to children. I used 2 blues, 2 reds, 2 oranges, 2 yellows, 2

greens, 2 purples, 2 pinks, and 2 multicolor in each of my blocks. We

will be collecting the 16patch blocks again at our next meeting. Several

quilts have been made using the 16-patch blocks previously collected

but more is always better.

I have several quilt tops that need to be quilted and also several that need

binding. If you would like to help in any way, please email me and I will

make sure you get what you want.

No one turned in blocks made using the shirt pattern that I distributed at

the meeting before last. These blocks are easy to make using a 6-1/2”

square of colorful fabric, a 6 ½” square of fusible and a 9 to 9 ½” square

of white fabric. If you did not receive the pattern, email me at:

[email protected] and I will send it to you.

PLEASE BRING 16 PATCH BLOCKS MADE WITH 2-1/2” SQUARES

AND SHIRT BLOCKS TO THE NEXT MEETING

Spring Retreat 2018

Marie Eddins

We are excited about our upcoming guild sponsored retreat to be held at

Palm Valley Christian Life Center in Round Rock on Highway 79. It will

be held on April 19-21, Thursday, Friday from 9-9, and Saturday 9-3.

We still have 8 spaces available so you can sign up by contacting Marie at

[email protected] or Rhonda Look at [email protected].

You can pay when you get to the retreat (check is preferred if possible).

We will have a potluck supper on Thursday evening so please email Marie

or Rhonda to sign up for the food item you wish to share. We will be

playing one game, “Getting to Know you”. Please put a notion in a bag

with your name attached (about a $5.00 value). Also we will have a free

table for quilt related items.

A couple of cutting mats will be available on raised tables. Ironing boards

and regular-sized irons will be set up at a couple of locations for your

convenience. No regular irons are allowed at your work station; however,

small travel irons are okay.

So, mark your calendars, April 19-21st for a fun time to get some of your

projects completed and get to know your fellow guild members. If you

have any questions, email Marie.

Let the good quilting times roll!

Blockhead Wannabees

By Marie Eddins

The Blockhead project will be completed at the Mary Party

Meeting. I have introduced 8 Moda Blockhead blocks with only 1 more

coming up at the April Meeting. You will then have 9 Blockhead blocks

to make your quilt top. You many finish your quilt any way you like

(does not have to be quilted and bound). If you want to add more blocks

(more Blockhead blocks or any block design), sashings, filler piecing or

applique, all are fine as long as the original 9 Blockhead blocks are in

your quilt. It is your quilt to design your finished layout how you’d like.

Those participating will have a change to win a bundle of fat quarters

with a panel! In case you missed a block or two, or would like to start

and play catch up, you can go to the Moda Blockheads website and pick

up the blocks there. It is http://blog.modafabrics.com/blockheads/

The list of the Moda Blockhead designers are there as well. The

blocks I have presented thus far are: #1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 12 and 13. So

catch up on your blocks and keep sewing. Only one more block to make

that I will present at the April meeting. You could be our winner!

Point To Ponder By Linda Sini

Now that Easter has come and gone it is the perfect opportunity to get in your sewing room and do some spring cleaning. If there are quilts, patterns and fabric that you no long want, think about donating them or trading with someone else for an item they may not want any more. Make a list of things that you want to accomplish for the rest of the year. I love to make lists, because I love to cross things off when I complete them.

Straighten up the sewing room or sewing area

Make a list of supplies that are needed o Printer cartridges o Label maker o New cutting mat o Rotary Blades o Needles for Machine o Thread o Clips for binding, etc.

List of quilts that have been started

List of quilts that need to be made

Craft projects that need to be completed

New quilting technique to master

List of quilts that need to be quilted o Do I pay for someone to quilt them? o Do I learn to quilt them myself?

Once everything is cleaned up and cleared out you can get to work on all the things that you want to accomplish. Go get em.

Free Table

If you bring an item for the free table and no one takes it, please make sure you pick it up at the end of each meeting. We cannot leave anything behind at the library. Thank you
