Greater Portland Iris Society GPIS President’s Message As I set here by the warm fire place look- ing out the window, I see another cold, wet wintery day. ―Hurry Up Spring‖. A walk through the iris patch, I find new growth especially on the MDB’s and SDB’s. Spurias have been growing all Winter, even in the 6 inches of snow. Before the snow storm, my I. ungicularis was in full bloom. At our upcoming March meeting, Steve Schreiner is going to join us with a program ―Days in The Life of Schreiner’s Gardens‖. His presentation will include some history and current day to day operations. Hav- ing visited the garden area several times during a year, there is always something in progress. Mark your calendar: May 17-19, is the AIS Region 13 Spring Convention hosted by GPIS. The hotel is the Shilo Inn Suites Portland Airport on NE Airport Way. Scheduled for Friday evening is the AIS Re- gion 13 General Membership Meeting and a hybrid- izer’s show and tell. Saturday a bus tour to Mt Pleas- ant Iris Farm, Aitken’s Salmon Creek Garden and a session on Artistic Design and Arrangement at the hotel. After dinner, we will have an awards program, a live auction of newer iris introductions and the Re- distribution of Irises. Sunday morning – a two-hour Judge’s Training session on ―Awards and Ballots‖. The schedule of events, hotel information and regis- tration form can be found in the Calendar of Events Section on the GPIS Website as follows: greaterportlandirissociety.org‖. Be sure to check the registration/reservation cutoff dates. Refreshments for March meeting – last name begin- ning with M-Z.
