President’s Message I was going to talk about the weather being 70 degrees one day and 30 degrees the next until I looked at what I wrote this time last year for the March Newsletter “Where is the weather raining and 70 degrees on a Friday then snowing and 30 degrees on Saturday? Good ol’ North- west Ohio”. Even though Northwest Ohio has crazy weather, at least it is consistent! ☺ We have a few upcoming events to be on the lookout for. The first will be our additional membership meeting/CLE in Wood County. This will take place on April 11, 2018, from 3:30-5:00 at the BGSU Levis Commons location. The meeting will start at 4:00 but we are tentatively saying 3:30 p.m. to give everyone enough time to arrive and get signed in. Attorney Mark H. Boss, from Eastman and Smith, will be speaking on Estate and Probate Matters. We will be inviting everyone to attend a social event immediately following the meeting at Bar Louie. So, please feel free to join us at Bar Louie, even if you are not able to attend the membership meeting. PANO will be providing appetizers for everyone to enjoy! Make sure to mark your calendar for PANO’s annual Paralegal Day Celebration on May 14, 2018. We will be providing lunch and you will get to hear from the new Mayor of Toledo, Wade Kapszukiewicz. Lastly, please consider serving on the board next year. PANO cannot operate without volunteers to run our organization, so if you are interest- ed please contact Lisa Robison at [email protected]. NAME: Debbie Hyndman COMPANY: Libbey Glass

YEARS IN THE FIELD: 44 years in legal field, 41 years as a paralegal

What did you want to be growing up? I thought I wanted to be a stockbroker. What was your first job? I had several cash paying jobs babysitting and cleaning house for elderly neighbors as a teenager. My

first job with a paycheck was part-time afternoons during my senior year of high school at Bugbee & Conkle law firm, 44 years later I’m still in the field! I’m grateful that they took a chance on me as a 16 year old high school student and they were very patient with me!

What is your favorite month of the year? October – my birthday month, great weather, fall colors and football season! What is your #1 vacation destination? Lately it’s been the Florida Gulf Coast in March, perfect weather there while it is still pretty

crummy around here. My sister and I go and have the best time! What radio station do you listen to the most in the car? Generally sports talk radio, usually 97.1 The Ticket out of Detroit. Name two shows you are currently watching on TV? I love HGTV – Fixer Upper (it reminds me of the time I lived in Central Texas near Waco).

Also like to watch Property Brothers. Three words people use to describe you are? Caring, funny, loyal What is your favorite thing about your career?

My favorite thing is probably the opportunity to learn about the many different areas of the busi-ness of life that I’ve been exposed to while in the legal field. Number two is all of the wonderful peo-ple I’ve had the chance to work with in the last 44 years.

What one piece of advice would you give to those considering a career as a paralegal? It can be a great career with many different professional opportunities. Use every chance to gain exposure to as many different areas of the law as possible. I work in the corporate setting now (and hope to be here until I retire), but worked many years with law firms of different sizes and types and each one taught me so much and better prepared me for what I am doing now.

What one thing would you like to see PANO do in the future? I would like PANO to continue involving newer members in the leadership and activities of the group. New lead-ers and members is one of the keys to staying a viable professional organization. PANO has a long history and I hope it stays an active, vibrant group.
