All of our events, programs and initia- tives are planned, organized, and run by volunteers. Some have been dedicating their time and expertise for years. Others are new members who offer their assistance at the time they send in their membership application form. Some take on large responsibilities, others smaller roles. All have lives outside of Site involving demanding jobs, careers and families which makes their dedication to Site even more inspiring. Supporting our volunteers are their families and employ- ers without whose understanding they would not be able to manage their volunteer roles. I encourage each of you to recognize the work of these dedi- cated individuals by sending in your nomination form for the 2010 Site Canada Volunteer Champion. The form is available on our website and you are able to nominate more than one volunteer. http://www.sitecanada.org/volunteer.htm I would also like to recognize the contribution (literally) made to Site Canada by our sponsors. As a non-profit organization, we rely on their generosity to provide top quality education, events and services for our members. Several of these organizations have come forward to supply us with services throughout the year. In other cases, expertise, products or funds are donated to address a specific need. The most recent of whom - Tourism Toronto, PorterAirlines, Le Saint Sulpice and Atelier & Saveurs - enabled Site Canada to reach out and interact with the incentive community in Montreal in early April. We understand there are many industry organizations, and truly appreciate you recognizing the value of working with Site Canada. We would not be the Chapter that we are without your support. On behalf of the Chapter I want to extend a sincere thank you to each and every one of you. What a Difference a Year Makes!Just12monthsagoatthe2009NationalMeetingsIndustryDay(NMID)themoodwassombre.Atthetime,theeconomiccrisishadinflictedamajornegativeeffectonmanycompaniesinthemeetingsandincentivesbusiness….Corporationswerecancellingtheirmeetingsduetoseverebusinessuncertainty.Worseyet,intheUSA,the‘AIGeffect’onorganizationswhoreceivedgovernmentbailoutmoney,andallegedlyheld‘lavishemployeeconferencesatluxuryresorts’causedabacklashagainstourindustry,rightuptotheUSSenateChamberinWashington,DC.Inthemeantime,theGovernmentofCanadahadquietlydirectedgovernmentministersanddeputyministersfromeverysingledepartmentandagencyofthegovernment‘toreinintheirspendingontravel,hospitality,conferences,exchangesandprofessionalservices’.
Site Canada event in Montreal, a great success!OnWednesday,April7th,SITECanadaorganizedaneventinMontreal,heldatAteliers&SaveursinOldMontreal,tofamil-iarizetheQuebecindustrywithitsChapter.Therewerepre-sentationsonSiteCanadaprograms,andalsoontheimpor-tanceoftheBusinessEventsIndustryCoalitionofCanadaforfuturesuccess.GuestshadtheopportunitytolearnfromtheAtelier&Sauveursstaffhowtomaketheirowncocktails(andtodrinkthem,too!).Theyalsoputonanapronandhelpthechefscreatedelicioustapas.Theeventwasarealsuccess,25guestswereexpected,butitwassopopularalmost50peopleattended!ThankyouMontrealforyourcommitmentandenthusiasm.
