AUXILIARY Unit 24 Fleet Reserve Association Sept. – Oct. 2014

UNIT MEETINGS: Susan Hogan, President 443-852-5929 Regular meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:35 p.m. The Board of Directors meetings precede regular meetings at 7:00 p.m. Chaplain: Linda Masterson (410) 263-3569 Our Charter was draped at the meeting on 8/5/14 for PNC Flo Marie Holcomb and for Sonja Eades, Past Unit 24 President and Secretary. Twelve members conduct-ed the Unit’s ceremony for Sonja at her service held at Fowlers United Methodist Church in Annapolis. Several Unit members traveled to at-tend the service held for Flo Marie Holcomb. Members signed the sheet to list their recent cards sent and visits paid to members and families. Americanism/Patriotism: Stacy Fazekas Stacy advised that her new e-mail address is [email protected]. Stacy will give to Susan Hogan supplies she collected for female Troops overseas, so that Sue may give them to her contact person for delivery. Stacy has donated items recently to Wounded Warriors. Baby wipes, cookies and phone cards are needed for Troops overseas. Loretta Jorden, Stacy and 4 others represented our Unit in Annapolis Memorial Day Parade. Several members represented our Unit at the Navy Memorial ceremony in DC. Welfare: Barb Hrynyshen Coffee, tea, sugar, creamer were collected and delivered to the Veteran’s Center in Annapolis. Additional stores of the same items will be collected at our 9/2 meeting; ours is the only or-ganization providing the supplies to the Center. School supplies for Sarah’s House were collected and delivered for the new school year. Membership: Diane Hoover New Unit member, Gerri Simmons, was initiated at 8/5/14 meeting. A committee is needed for updating the Unit’s membership list for mailing the LOG. Youth Activities: Loretta Jorden (410) 956-6015 Loretta reported that she was presented with a plaque for her 25 years of service in coaching softball for youth of Anne Arundel County. Diane Hoover reported on the Soap Box Derby: Our drivers won 1st and 2nd place in stock car, and 2nd and 3rd in superstock. Our 1st place winner this year qualified to go to the Nationals in Akron OH on 7/26/14. Hospital: Linda Masterson (410) 263-3569 No services were request-ed during July. Sylvia will chair Bingo at the Nursing Home. Mary-Ellen McGrath reported that she received a letter from Joseph Gomoljak, Li-on’s Club President, in appreciation for collecting 99 pair of glasses. Mary-Ellen received another 20 pair of glasses after the letter came, and thanked everyone for helping in the collection effort. Publicity: Kathleen McCruden (410) 255-4757 Meeting Notices are submitted for publication in the Capital Gazette and the Annapolis com-munity news online. E-mail messages are circulated to our members on a regular basis concerning upcoming events. Any member wishing to have their e-mail address updated or added to the circulation list, please call Kathy at 443-742-4841. A new Publicity chairperson is being sought. This is a great chance for someone without a current duty to become involved in providing service to the Unit. Also, our Face-book page “L.A.F.R.A. Unit 24” is a valuable resource needing an Administrator to reply to messages and provide updates of events. Unit Activities: Loretta will ask Anne Tydings if she will chair this com-mittee. Unit members will help with the Club’s Open House scheduled for 9/13/14 from 10 am until 4 pm. Shifts of two are needed to assist

Chair-person Toni O’Neill will provide a list for sign-ups to assist with Las Vegas Night on 11/8/14. *PLEASE NOTE THIS NEW DATE* Refreshment Committee – Members are asked to bring small snacks to share at our meeting on 9/2/14. New Business: Barb Hrynyshen said that she will be able to deliver Thanksgiving baskets, but at Christmas she will be on a cruise and needs others to help with Christmas baskets. Barb will assemble dry goods ahead of time, but someone needs to shop for ham/turkey breasts and deliver the baskets a couple of days before Christmas. Marie Gough can provide storage for the food items as they are col-lected. In July, thank you letters to the Unit came from Ivan Ogle for the Unit’s ceremony for his wife Ellen, and from Susan Hogan for the gift of her gavel and attendance at the installation dinner. Toni report-ed that the fundraising efforts for the East Coast Regional were very successful. A motion was passed to increase the Unit’s National Con-vention budget for allowances paid to Unit delegates attending the Convention in Oct. The Unit voted to donate funds toward the Club’s Open House on 9/13/14. Our donation will help to cover the cost of pens, banners, balloons and other items. Tents and demonstration tables will be set up in the parking lot on the day of the event. Good of the Order : Stacy asked for prayers for her uncle and broth-er, one of whom had a mini stroke, and the other who was injured in a landscaping accident.
