President’s Message Ken Hamer

We Can Use Your Help

In case you didn’t see Mike Keller’s email a couple of weeks ago,

Inland Mopars Car Club is in need of a volunteer to fill our club

Secretary office. Ed Sobiecki was “volunteered” to fill the office a

few months ago but recently tendered his resignation due to the

arthritic pain in his hands while recording the Minutes of our monthly

business meetings. We attempted to have a surplus laptop computer

updated for Ed to use but found that the computer could not be

brought back to life.

This is not a difficult position and doesn’t require any time other

than recording the Minutes from our monthly business meetings and

then transcribing the Minutes to a Word document and forwarding it

to Mike Keller for inclusion in our monthly Newsletter. (NO, don’t even

think about it. Mike will not become secretary to cut out the middle

man/woman.)

To make recording the Minutes easier, I provide the club Secretary

with a printed copy of the monthly meeting agenda so the Secretary

has prior knowledge of what is going to be discussed and all they have

to do is add applicable details.

Your time and efforts will be much appreciated if you decide to

accept this office. I will be asking for a volunteer at our club meeting

on May 5th. If you are unable to attend the May club meeting and are

interested in this office, please contact me by either telephone or

email.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

I am writing this on ‘Happy HEMI Day’ (04/26) while some of you

have already directed the show car parking for the first day of MATS

in Las Vegas. Today, Mother Mopar released the newest iteration of

the famed HEMI for purchase. The current G3 version shares the 426

cid dimension with the G2 HEMI but that’s all that it shares. The new

G3 aluminum-block ‘Hellephant’ comes in at a mind-blowing 1000

horsepower and 950 lb-ft of torque on pump gas! That will get you

back from the grocery store before the ice cream melts.

Think about it…that is over 2.3 horsepower per cubic inch. Back in 1969 when I bought my 340

Swinger Dart, the best you could get out of a factory engine was just a tick under 1.0 horsepower per

cubic inch.

Looking back, Beebe and Mulligan won the Top Fuel title at the 1969 NHRA Winternationals by

running a 6.93 elapsed time – todays Pro Stock cars are about 3/10 of a second quicker, on gasoline.

Funny Car was won by Clare Sanders in ‘Jungle Jim’ Liberman’s #2 car running a 7.88 elapsed time. At

the recently completed NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in North Carolina, Bill Skillman qualified #1 in the

Factory Stock door-slammer class at 7.82 seconds.

It’s absolutely amazing how much technology has improved performance over the past 50 years.

REMINDER! Our May 5th club meeting will be held at California School for the Deaf in Riverside

where we will do our final planning for our upcoming 19th annual “Mopars in May at CSDR” all-Mopar car

show. We will start our meeting at 10:30AM so that those that go to breakfast at Cactus Cantina will

have a little more time to finish breakfast and still get to the club meeting on time.

Please bring your Mopar to the May 5th club meeting so we can take pictures of your ride for our

website.

As always, thank you to everyone for all you do to make Inland Mopars Car Club the very best it can

be – the club’s reputation is a direct reflection of the members. //

Meeting Minutes-April

The April 7, 2019 meeting of Inland Mopars at the Cactus Cantina, Riverside, was called to order

promptly at 10:00 AM by sergeant-at-arms Mike Counts.

Attending today are: Steve Backer, Tim and Diane Baer, Sil Brander, Lonnie and Robin Clabaugh, Rick

Cook, Mike Counts, Sam Frisby, Joey Garcia, Ken and Judy Hamer, Michael Harding, Bill Heckman, B.J.

Hayden, Norma Johnston, Mike Keller, Wayne Parris, Paul Roddy, John Smithson, Ed and Linda

Sobiecki, Bill and Debbie Whitson, and Harry Windhorst

President Ken Hamer welcomed all in attendance and wished a “Happy Birthday” to the following club

members having a birthday in April: Tim Baer, Camille Counts, Cynthia Parris, Linda Merken, Daemon

Garcia and Joey Garcia.

Ken advised he will be noting the Minutes for today’s meeting because the laptop computer that was

hoped to be able to be updated for use by club Secretary Ed Sobiecki is not repairable.

Treasurer’s Report – Sam gave the treasurer’s report, updating monies collected in March,

expenditures for March, and totals in the club’s account and petty cash.

Social Media

Club Website – Steve Backer reported the club website is up to date.

Facebook – Mike Counts reported over 950 responses to our Facebook page.

Instagram – Jason Gibbons reported over 590 followers on our Instagram account.

Old Business & Past Events:

March

March 9 – Steve Backer and Mike Keller attended the H.E.M.I. car show in Phoenix, AZ. They

reported the show attracted about 150-160 cars. Passed out a bunch of Mopars in May & MATS

flyers.

March 16-17 – Joey Garcia attended the Classic Car Show at the Orange County Fairgrounds and

met Mark Worman of Graveyard Cars.

March 23 - Bill Heckman attended the 8th Annual Bonita High School Auto Shop Car Show in La

Verne. Bill reported it was a good show as always.

Sil Brander attended a local Pep Boys car show, put his car on the portable dyno and walked away

with the High Horsepower & High Torque awards with his 1959 Plymouth Belvedere.

Steve and Beth Backer, Ken and Judy Hamer, and Mike Keller met with Don and Ann Long for a

debrief from our December 2018 Toy Drive Party to see what club members can do better to

make the 2019 Toy Drive Party better for the Longs. There were several suggestions mainly

regarding after party cleanup. Don Long reported they would like to invite their car-friends so

we may need to rent additional tables and chairs to accommodate a larger attendance. (After

the meeting Wayne Parris volunteered he has square tables that seat 8 & chairs that we could

use, which would cut down the rental cost.)

For Sale - Arizona

1964 Plymouth race car sold at MATS.

For Sale - Texas

This is the real deal LM23P car and is super clean. No rust anywhere that I could find!!!

This is a real, Y2, Sunfire yellow car. Body panels are believed to be all original. The

undercoating of the car looks to be original. The original 340 motor is long gone. It now

has a 360, stroked to 408 and runs very strong. It has a brand new MSD billet

distributor with MSD 6-AL box for added spark. A new mechanical fuel pump has been

added, TTI Shorty headers into dual exhaust with an H pipe and new exhaust with chrome

tips out the back. It has a Holley 750 double pumper carburetor sitting on top of an

Edelbrock RPM Airgap intake, brand new spark plugs, recent oil change and MSD plug

wires. The new alternator has been wired for a one wire hookup. The sound is incredible!!!

The Dart drives and rides very nice!

It's had the column shifter transferred to the floor with an added console. The newly

covered bucket seats were added for a more sporty look. The seats, carpet, headliner

and dash all look great!!! There is an added oil pressure gauge that stays at 60 pounds of

pressure. The blinkers, headlights, radio and wipers all work as they should.

The 727 automatic transmission shifts excellent. The trans has a reverse valve body. It

has a 7 quart deep oil pan. Rear has 3:23 gears. The original 4 1/2 inch drum brakes

have been kept original.
