ZED or Zero Defect, Zero Effect scheme is for MSME Sector to increase the quality of products matching

global standards. The idea is of making our product which has “Zero Defect” and “Zero Effect” so that the

manufacturing does not have an adverse effect on our environment.

Ensuring competitiveness of India’s MSME is critical as it will contribute to the overall growth of the

manufacturing sector and the county’s economy. ZED has presented a model where the concept of quality

has a holistic change from tool for compliance to a source of competitiveness. The ZED scheme is an

integrated and holistic certification system that will account for quality, productivity, energy, efficiency,

pollution migration, financial status, human resource and technological depth including design and IPR

in both products and process.

BENEFITS OF ZED CERTIFICATION

Credible recognition of the industry for international customers seeking investment in India.

Streamlined operations and lower cost. Superior quality, reduced rejection and higher revenues. Increased environmental and social benefits. Additional employment generation Other benefits as announced by the Government from time to time. ZED is likely to be made as a benchmark for suppliers to PSUs and Defence Offset.

PARAMETERS

The MSMEs will be assessed and rated on defined enabler and outcome parameters on operational level

indicators. These indicators may include:

Manufacturing Capabilities. Design Capabilities. Quality / Environment / Safety assurance systems. People development and engagement systems for quality and environment. Learning and improvement system. Legal compliances (Hygiene Factor)

An organisation applying to be evaluated on the ZED Maturity Assessment Model shall demonstrate and

will be assessed at the generational level.

HOW IT WORKS

There are 50 parameters on which the MSME will be assessed and rated.

The MSME applicant will be rated minimum 30 parameters consisting 20 essential parameters and 10

other parameters.

MSMEs may seek ZED rating on more than 30 parameters as per the process and systems available at

the MSME.

Each parameter has 5 levels.

The rating is based on a weighted average level.

The company is encouraged, handheld and trained to achieve a higher level for each parameter and

thus elevate itself in the maturity model.

A person who never made a mistake, never tried anything new. – Albert Einstein

The Gandhidham Chamber of Commerce & Industry

E-News Letter Issue No. 10 Date: 01.01.2017

ZED MATURITY ASSESSMENT MODEL

The ZED Maturity Assessment Model has been conceived and structured to offer graded benchmark

levels of an organisation performance through a set of standard enable and outcome parameters focusing

on quality and environmental performances. It aims to rate and handhold all MSMEs to deliver top-

quality products using clean technology.

PROCESS FLOW CHART

In order to prepare the MSMEs of India to create a value chain for the new regime, ZED Certification

provides an opportunity to units to strive to continuously improve its process thereby aiming to move-up

the ZED maturity assessment model.
