all of you. Quarter seven students have already completed their first Hurst Review. I was able to greet some of the quarter one ADN and BSN
students, on their first day of class, at the door with this newsleGer. You all looked eager and excited to start your journey here at DSN. I hope you are
geLng acclimated to the college. This past week I had the pleasure of meeNng several quarter 6
students who are in the Nursing Leadership course. I want to thank Ben for inviNng me to speak to your clinical group. It was an honor for me to be able to share my experiences with your classmates. This issue of our newsleGer has been designed at the
request of students, to provide Nps to all students in each quarter of the program. We hope you find it helpful in successfully compleNng the current term. If you have addiNonal advice for your fellow students please don’t hesitate to send your comments to our editor Taylor Smith.

"Differentiated Practice is a course about the 'art' of nursing as opposed to the 'science' of nursing. We discuss the history of nursing, philosophy, legal and ethical issues, and evidence-based practices" - Brenda Kwiecinski, ADN instructor

"Quarter 5 is extremely busy for ADN students", said instructor Barb Calo. She would like ADN students to know that teachers do make changes to adjust the classes towards ADNs, including dropping group projects. The instructors appreciate the hard work that quarter 5 takes!

DSN welcomes a new instructor, Dr. Sharon
Bator. She is celebrating her 50th year since graduating nursing
school at University of Cincinnati! Sharon has a
wide background, including clinical work
in maternal-child nursing, and specialty
research work. Her research focused on
adoption and qualitative studies, including the
question "Should families tell an adopted
child that they were adopted?"
Sharon is happy to be at DSN and impressed with the energy and desire to
learn from students.
Dosage Calc is an online course with quizzes to average a 78%, and a final written exam requiring a 100%.
Pharmacology consists of exams, online quizzes, workbook checks, optional drug cards, and HESIs.

Health Informatics is an online course with discussion contributions, Prezi presentations, and Piktochart creations.
Foundations consists of 10 weekly exams, case studies, and HESIs.
BSNs
Dr. Susan Jacquez, a previous DSN clinical
facilitator, is the new Med Surg I BSN instructor. She
has been a RN for 30 years. Dr. Jacquez has a MSN in Public Health and
DNP in Healthcare Leadership &
Organizational Management. Dr. Jacquez will academically prepare
future nurse leaders in the delivery of safe and quality care by being available to
students and role modeling behaviors
consistent with professionalism and
leadership.

Transitions is a Pass/Fail class that consists of the HESI binder completion, weekly quizzes, 1 case study, dosage calc HESI, pharm HESI, & an open skills lab attendance.
"The Sim lab competency check-off is moved to Q7 to improve scheduling for students. The open skills lab attendance requirement will require students to practice 2 skills in front of an instructor. Weekly quizzes are added to encourage attendance to lectures." - Will Bormann, Transitions Instructor

Death and Dying is a 5 week long online course with a weekly discussion and quiz. There is one paper and one teaching project based on student selection of course topics.

Senior Integrative Seminar and Capstone consists of orientation, Hurst Review, Kaplan Review, Kaplan Secure Predictor Exam, 2 HESI exams, 1 Pharmacology exam, and 1 Medical Surgical Exam
Pharm Review by Will Bormann is strongly encouraged for Q7 students to do well on the pharmacology exam. Attend on Friday mornings.
