Our History
MID 2000s PEN was established in 2005. The
founders studied several models,
including BRAC and The Citizens
Foundation before deciding on
establishing a public-private partnership
with goal of improving academics in
public schools.
2010 PEN adopted 23 Government schools
under an agreement with the City District
Government, Lahore. PEN also
established a school in Shah Garh, near
Muzzafargarh, in the region affected by
the devastating floods in 2010. At the
time, there were a little less than 6,000
students in PEN adopted schools.
2011 Initially, PEN worked on improving
the school’s infrastructure and
provision of basic amenities to bring
them up to a minimum acceptable
standard, in addition to academic
interventions, such as improvement
of teachers’ pedagogical skills
through teachers’ training.
2012 PEN established computer labs in
Middle and High Schools, and provided
I.T. instructors. PEN also adopted 16
new Government schools in Lahore,
Karachi and Gujrat.
2013 PEN has incorporated co-curricular
activities in the curriculum of all adopted
schools. We regularly organize drama
workshops, quiz competitions, sports,
and declamation contests. PEN has also
established 6 computer labs with I.T.
instructors.
Our Future Our goal is to provide quality education
to 1 million students enrolled in public
schools by 2025. We plan to achieve
this through an annual increase of 43
percent in student strength of public
schools all over Pakistan.
Our Model PEN adopts public schools, through a public-private partnership, to improve the infrastructure
and upgrade academic standards. In addition, we initiate extra-curricular activities that foster
character-building and confidence among the under-privileged students. Moreover, we build
computer labs and provide experienced and qualified I.T. instructors.
