PRESS RELEASE
Fundraising for Cathedral Notre Dame de Paris
The fire that devastated the Cathedral of Notre-‐Dame de Paris on Monday, April 15, provoked worldwide emotions of grief, sympathy and solidarity. The damage is significant, some of it irrecoverable. It will be necessary to gather all of the energies of the world, both public and private, to rebuild and save the Cathedral of Notre-‐Dame de Paris. The Archbishop of Paris, Monseigneur Michel Aupetit, President of the Fondation Notre Dame, invites all those who wish to join in the reconstruction effort to contribute to the Fonds Notre Dame de Paris. It is hosted by the Fondation Avenir du Patrimoine à Paris, under the aegis of the Fondation Notre Dame. The purpose of this foundation is to help owners, Ville de Paris and the French Ministry of Culture, to call upon private donors (individuals and companies) to restore the historic churches of Paris. By an agreement signed with the State in May 2017, the Fondation Avenir du Patrimoine à Paris opened a dedicated fund in order to accelerate the restoration works of the cathedral. Before the catastrophe, the State had agreed to match each euro collected, up to two millions per year. In addition, the Diocese of Paris and the Fondation Notre Dame created the Friends of Notre-‐Dame de Paris, a foundation able to receive tax deductable donations under American law and to raise funds in several cities in the United States for the renovation of the cathedral. The sum of three million euros had already been raised before the fire. This patronage had made it possible for the Ministry of Culture to start the restoration of a buttress arch, as well as the sixteen statues surrounding the arrow (12 apostles and 4 symbols of the evangelists). On April 16, the Fondation Notre Dame is launching an international coordination for the collection of donations. It recommends caution regarding the multiple French or foreign private collections that have arisen at the same time as the event (platforms, donation
funds, etc.).The whole system aims to enable the flow of donations to achieve their objective, which is to restore the cathedral, in perfect coordination with the public authorities.
