Ecivon: Background

What is it? A health education

website related to asthma, cholesterol, diabetes, and high blood pressure

Users can read articles, view and edit discussion boards, and monitor personal levels

Healthcare providers and users can chart the levels and monitor the users condition

GlucoSync: Background

What is it? An application that allows

users to download blood glucose levels from a gluco-meter to their personal computer

Levels are then uploaded to a website database called Ecivon

Why is it useful? Allows users to

automatically upload levels to Ecivon without manually entering the data

GlucoSync: Improvements…

Beta Testing Will tell us how to improve GlucoSync and better design

PressureSync

Commenting GlucoSync Original code was not well documented

Most documentation is in the form of ReadMe files

About Blood Pressure

What is it? The force of blood against the walls of the arteries

How is it measured? It is measured in millimeters of mercury It consists of two numbers a systolic and diastolic pressure

Systolic pressure is the force of blood when the heart beats Diastolic pressure is the force of blood when the heart is at

rest Blood pressure is written as systolic over diastolic (120/80)

About High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is also called hypertension What is considered high?

A blood pressure of greater than 140/90 Why does it matter?

High blood pressure is the leading cause of heart disease Heart disease is the number one cause of death in America

Who is at risk? Approximately 50 million Americans have high blood pressure and

35% of them do not know they have it How can it be treated?

Eating healthy Exercising regularly Monitor blood pressure levels periodically

Why PressureSync?

Hypertension is the leading cause of heart disease Heart disease: #1 cause of death in America.

Automatic monitors are available for home use. Accurate monitoring

No more manual entry of data Use with Ecivon to log data and view history

PressureSync and Ecivon Data

Stored in XML file Parsed using JavaScript Loaded into a form Transferred to Ecivon database using http protocol Apache server, PHP code, MySQL database

Users and health care providers will be able to view data by logging into the Ecivon website .

Additional Project Options

If time permits, these additional tasks will be considered to make PressureSync more attractive

Redesigning Ecivon Several linking errors Design issues

Migrate Ecivon to a stand alone server Easier administration Guarantee proper maintainance
