2019 CLASS FORAMATION
I would like to thank all of the parents who took the time to share information with me recently, regarding their child’s class/group placement for next year. I was impressed with how well each submission had been presented and that parents/guardians understood that the process of making grades up each year was complex, and that all children’s needs must be carefully considered. As the process of setting up grades for next year has now commenced, letters can no longer be submitted.

PRINCIPAL’S DESK
I was really pleased to see that collectively, this process was not seen as an opportunity to choose particular teachers or write a list of ‘my child’s best friends that they just HAVE to be with’. This has occurred in different forms in the past, and doesn’t help in setting up balanced, fair and productive classes across the whole school. As staff continue with the thorough process of allocating children to class groups, many meetings occur and all children will be placed into a class group for next year based on their learning needs.
EVERY MINUTE AND EVERY DAY COUNTS
At Templeton Primary School we are committed to providing your child with an excellent education. The building blocks of a great education begin with all students coming to school each and every day. Regular school attendance is vital and missing school days can have a big impact on your child’s future – missing one day a fortnight will miss four full weeks by the end of the year. From Prep to Year 12 that adds up to 1.5 years of school!
5 days off per year is approximately a day off every 8 weeks
Just 5 days off per year adds up to 7 weeks of missed school every 8 weeks schooling throughout your child’s time at Primary School.
10 days off per year is approximately a day off every 4 weeks
10 days off per year adds up to 14 weeks of missed schooling throughout your child’s time at Primary School which is about a term and a half of school.
15 days off per year is approximately a day off every 2 1/2 weeks
15 days off per year adds up to 21 weeks of missed schooling throughout your child’s time at Primary School which is about two terms of school.
20 days off per year is approximately a day off every 2 weeks
20 days off per year adds up to 28 weeks of missed schooling throughout your child’s time at Primary School which is nearly ¾ of a year missed of school over the 7 Primary School years.
5 minutes late every day = 3 days of school lost a year
10 minutes late every day = 6.5 days of school lost a year
15 minutes late every day = 10 days of school lost a year
20 minutes late every day = 13 days of school lost a year
30 minutes late every day = 19 days of school lost a year
Being late to school can have a considerable impact over the whole school year. The table shows you just how much time can be missed through a year by being just a little bit late every day. Just as important as regular attendance is punctuality. Our music plays at 8:57am with the aim that students will be in class, organised and ready for their school day to start at 9:00am. If you are finding that you are regularly late, please take the time to look at the morning routines and see if there is something which can be changed to help you get your child to school on time each day. As well as the missed learning time, your child being late also impacts the other students in the class as teachers time is taken up re-introducing the learning tasks and means that your child is playing catch up from the time they enter the room. If the school can be of any assistance please feel free to make a time to see me to discuss the issue.

THURSDAY 15TH NOVEMBER
All Templeton children will participate in the Walkathon on Thursday 15th November.
Children are not encouraged to "door knock" for sponsors or donations, rather to seek
support from family, friends and acquaintances.
As always we welcome parents' participation to walk with the children and help with
cooking the sausages and vegie burgers for lunch!
Children who have any dietary requirements can bring their own.
On the morning of the Walkathon recess will be at 10.30am until 11.00am. Walking will
start at 11.00am and conclude by 12.00pm. Lunch will be served when children have
completed their walk followed by an icy-pole.

TEMPLETON INSTRUMENTAL UPDATE!
On Wednesday 7th November, twenty-three Templeton Band students made their way to Wantirna
College for a joint music workshop. After a free pizza lunch, supplied by Musicorp, the hard work began.
With a two hour deadline to learn and perform a piece of unknown music we set about sight reading
parts, learning the conductor’s signals, concentrating on our posture and playing in time. The sound of the
two united bands was big and bold, especially with the addition of a trombone, tuba and a whole
percussion section!
Many thanks to all the families who came along to listen to the ‘fruits of our labour’. I am sure that you
were as delighted by the outcome as I was. This wonderful opportunity will most certainly have
encouraged our band students to grow as musicians and I would like to thank everyone who helped make
the day possible.
A very special thank you must go to our instrumental teacher, Taliya Blom, for her dedication to our
students’ learning. I would also like to thank all the parents for their support of our program. The
expense of hiring instruments, lugging instruments to school, getting children to band at 8.15am and
encouraging practise is all worth it. Days like today are proof that all the sacrifices are worthwhile.
Mrs Pamela Wood—Performing Arts Coordinator.
