HIGH END AUTOMATION TOOL FOR ADOBE® INDESIGN®

The priint:comet InDesign plugin is the leading solution for Adobe® InDesign® providing holistic automation. Efficiency increases in all kinds of publications can be achieved with the help of the print:comet InDesign plugins. From creatively designed mail-order catalogs to fully automated in-dustry catalogs. More than 300 customers from industry, trading and mail order business trust in the flexibility and performance of the priint:comet InDesign plugins. They can be used as a single instance or as part of a groupware solution.

Besides various functions for automated page generation (flow layout, grid layout, free layout) the focus is on the correction and change process: Automatic update of content, automatic exchange of content (e.g. product changes), intelligent reorganization of page content and page sections without the loss of finishing work whilst in full support of a digital correction process.

The priint:comet InDesign plugins are seamlessly integrated in InDesign®. The priint:comet func-tions are very close to standard InDesign® functions; therefore a high degree of user acceptance guaranteeing less training and product familiarization. The templates are created in InDesign®, so the user does not have to leave their familiar working environment.

LIVE-ACCESS TO CONTENT SYSTEMS

The direct live-access to various content systems (PIM, DAM, CMS etc.) allows error-free, fast and direct use of content in InDesign®-documents. For single source publishing the content systems can be connected directly via ODBC or web-services. With the connection to the publishing:hub as middleware between content systems and the various publishing channels, multi source publishing in InDesign® is also possible.

PAGE GENERATION AND TEMPLATING IN INDESIGN®

Automated flow, grid or placement layout? Or free placement via drag & drop? The priint:comet InDesign plugins support all types of layout creation. Full functionality of Adobe® InDesign® is supported. The templates control how the individual information is displayed on the page. Layout rules can be defined for the templates. The individual page templates determine at which position all content is placed in the main template. Page templates support flow and grid layouts. For page templates placement rules can be defined. Templates and page templates can be combined arbitra-rily. Templates, page templates and table templates are defined in InDesign®.

FAITHFUL RENDITION AND MANAGING CHANGE

Once created, documents often have to be subsequently updated. In this process, individual content needs to be updated or components need to be replaced, newly added or (e.g. product exchange deleted. The faithful rendition function makes it possible to update the content of previously crea-ted documents without the loss of manual adjustment. This function is also used for editorial con-tent. The integrated change management always shows the differences between the InDesign® document and the content system visually and in list form. Thus at any time the control of the InDesign® document content is granted.

WORKFLOW SUPPORT AND DECENTRALIZED WORK

The priint:comet InDesign plugins support the total digital process - adjusted to roles and tasks. This includes all functionalities for optional publication management, workflow status management and integrated change management. The difference between content system and Adobe® InDesign® document as well as the digital annotations is shown visually. Thus, the user gets visual feedback and a to do list. For workflow support the priint:suite components publishing:management planner and whiteboard can be used. Other systems can be integrated as well.

The continuous support of web services for content updates, workflow and document integration also provides a decentralized, distributed working environment. Thus, the priint:comet InDesign plugins can also be used with foreign branches, external agencies and media services.

CONFIGURATION VIA CENTRAL REPOSITORY

The configuration of the priint:comet InDesign plugins is done via a central XML-based repository, which is automatically versioned. The templates created in InDesign® are also stored in the central repository. A powerful administration and configuration tool is provided named ison which also supports export and import of repositories and the deployment between development-, test-, accep- tance- and production systems.
