The Vision of Hope Congregation of the Resurrection

In 1999, the Congregation of the Resurrection created a new document entitled the "The Vision of Hope". This document focuses on the theological, as well as the practical, dimensions of what it means to be a community of hope. This year we will focus on the Congregation's concept of this "Vision of Hope" and the related texts of the Order, and what this means for everyone who participates in this Resurrectionist spirituality.

The Vision of Hope outlines the importance of community life to the Congregation of the Resurrection. The principles of community life also have application to your lives We gather as a community here and our gathering should be a sign of hospitality, inviting others into the Parish community and your lives of faith.

“Our Congregation must be a model of Christian community in which people are one in heart and mind” (Mission Statement). Therefore, sacrifice, personal discipline, and the setting aside of personal agenda are necessary…

We foster hope and a sense of Resurrectionist identity by assisting one another to live more deeply the paschal mystery…

The common life makes visible our charism and is a sign of hope to contemporary society which is seeking the experience of community to remedy situations of isolation, alienation, and individualism….

An expression of a strong common life is that hospitality which invites our own Resurrectionist brothers and others not only into our home but also into our lives of faith, and ultimately attracts new members to our Congregation.

Catechism Corner: “We can invoke God as ‘Father’ because he is revealed to us by his Son become man and because his Spirit makes him known to us. The personal relation of the Son to the Father is something that man cannot conceive of nor the angelic powers even dimly see: and yet, the Spirit of the Son grants a participation in that very relation to us who believe that Jesus is the Christ and that we are born of God.” (CCC, n. 2780) Study resources: Vatican II Constitution: Dei Verbum Divine Revelation), Ch. 5-6, The New Testament and Church Life. http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_const_19651118_dei-verbum_en.html

    Year of Faith: October 11, 2012—November 24, 2013

Week of April 7 – Session 10: The Wisdom of Confession and Prayer Readings: James 5:13-20 Jesus once compared the one who hears his words and acts on them to a wise man who built his house upon a rock and withstood the onslaughts of rain and floods and wind (Matthew 7:24ff). James may have had this truth in mind when he composed his letter, for all his admonitions to add action to hearing,

and to add works to faith, have led up to the need for steadfast patience of the type that rock represents. In Session 9, we saw that the firm hope of Christ’s return provides us with another anchor against the storms of life. It gives us the perspective we need to be patient in suffering and to establish our hearts as we wait for him. Like Job, we can rest in the assurance that God is working out His purpose and that He is merciful. In five short chapters, James has offered us quite a collection of pearls of wisdom. As he brings his letter to a close, he turns to the thread that holds those pearls together, the thread is the means by which we can carry them out and make them our own. How can we “be patient in suffering” or “control our tongues” in our daily lives? Verses 13-20 hold two clues, one regarding the vertical dimension of our relationship with God and the other, which touches on the horizontal dimension of community within the body of Christ. We are not in this struggle alone; we have both God and the Church to help us, to heal us, to make us whole inside and out so we may live the kind of deeply Christian lives to which we are called. Please Note: This is the last week of our study except for the Tuesday evening group which will complete this session the week of April 16. Please remember to arrive at least ten minutes prior to your session start time so that sessions may begin on time. If you have any questions about the study, call Kelly Reznicek at 630-629-5954 or e-mail [email protected].

    PARISH NEWS

Our Stewardship of Sharing This week you will receive a brochure detailing the Stewardship of Treasure program our parish will be participating in over the next few weeks. This brochure is intended to communicate the financial needs of our parish and why we are having a dedicated focus on our parish offertory. Commitment Sunday is April 13/14. We encourage all parishioners to spend time in prayer and discussion with your family reflecting on the parish’s needs and your current level of giving. We look forward to seeing all of our parishioners at Mass next weekend for this very important Commitment Sunday. If you have any questions regarding the Stewardship of Treasure Program, please feel free to contact the parish office.

St. Pius X RCIA Deacon Larry Lissak is the Director of the RCIA Program at St. Pius, and is also a Catechist. Deacon Larry will be presenting five classes this year. Explaining why he decided to take on a leadership role in RCIA, Deacon Larry wrote; “In past years I’ve been an RCIA presenter for Scripture, Church, Marriage and Peace and Justice topics. So it seemed like a good idea to kick it up a notch and get more involved last year.” When asked what he has learned through preparing for his presentations, Deacon Larry responded, “Every time I prepare and present a topic, it finds in me new life and new inspiration on how God, through Jesus’ example, guides us with his love, while allowing our free will to love in return…or not. Thus each person’s story is a Biblical story.” When asked to give an example of sharing a ‘real-life’ experience with the class, Deacon Larry responded: “I melded my experiences at the Oriental Institute on the ancient Middle East, with my experiences on the Navajo Reservation in the three sessions on the Old Testament.” He added, “Real people affect me on how God still acts through us; what might be old is still young. Basically, God calls, you answer.”

Deacon Larry has been a member of St. Pius X since 1977. He is married to Jan, who he met while a parishioner at Sacred Heart in Lombard. Together they have four children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was ordained a Deacon in 1997, and has held many positions on the Diaconal Community Board. Deacon Larry is currently involved on the Worship Commission, Parish Council, Service Commission, Altar Servers, PADs, Baptism Prep, Marriage Prep, Annulment Support, and works on special projects around the St. Pius X Campus. He is also Coordinator of the Missions to the Navajo Reservation in Arizona for the Diocese of Joliet Catholic Construction Corp. He is a busy guy! The RCIA Program would not be able to function without the help and leadership of people like Deacon Larry. We are so thankful for his time and talent and witness of faith. Please be sure to thank Deacon Larry when you see him, for all his contributions to inspiring others to deepen their love for God.

News From Your Environmental Committee Drug & Medication Collection will take place next weekend – April 13 & 14 before and after all Masses. Our last collection brought over 200 pieces of medical equipment which was sent overseas through Mission Outreach as well as many boxes of useable medications and even more expired meds that were taken to the Naperville Hazardous Waste drop off for disposal.

PLEASE: We cannot accept used or expired needles/syringes. They create a hazard for the people who sort the items and we do not have facilities to handle them!

We continue to accept cell phones, batteries, eyeglasses, ink cartridges and small electronics in the containers located on the shelf in the Mary Room. Thank you!

From the Desk of the Business Manager

Projects on the table – last month I mentioned 4 projects the Building and Grounds Committee and the Administration Commission have been considering. These projects are in the discussion stage and we have asked for proposals for budgetary purposes. If you have any questions about any of these projects or parish business issues please do not hesitate to contact me at the Parish Office 630-627-4526 or [email protected]. • Church Restrooms – The church has only one restroom; additional restrooms for weekend Masses and weddings are in the

school section and were built to accommodate pre-school children. The school restrooms are opened for funerals and that poses a safety issue. Diocesan approval is required before we move forward with this project.

    • Westmore Entrance – The Administration Commission and Buildings and Grounds Committee have had discussions on taking out the concrete and asphalt leading to the Westmore entrance to the church. The area is cracking and is an eyesore. We are talking about re-doing the area with paver bricks and landscaping. This area would incorporate a memorial walk with engraved paver bricks. To fund this project we will offer the individual bricks as memorials.

    • Both the Church Restrooms and Westmore Entrance projects will be presented and discussed at a meeting that will be held later this month; date to be announced. All parishioners are invited to attend.

    • Telephone System – Our current phone system is over 10 years old and replacement parts that are needed for repair are obsolete. The current system is very limited on storage space for messages. Besides the phones themselves, we are looking at a new source for providing the telephone service. The cost savings from the telephone service will pay for the new telephone equipment.

    • Social Center Air Conditioning – This project has been discussed only to the point of finding out how much it would cost. With no air conditioning the Social Center has limited use during the summer months. We mention this project to see if there would be any interest in raising funds. The project would run between $30,000 and $35,000 depending on the cost to bring the electric power over.
