Mindfulness:

Day 1: Magic Dust Sit comfortably and take in a deep breath. As you breathe in, feel as if you are breathing in magic fairy dust. Now, gently blow out the fairy dust into the air and imagine the room is being filled with fairy dust.

Day 2: Glass Boat Lie down on your stomach and just relax. Imagine you are lying on a boat and you can feel the warmth of the sun on your back. The boat has a glass floor and you can see through to the water. As you lie there, spend some time, enjoying watching the movement of the fish and sea creatures below you. Enjoy feeling relaxed as the boat gently sways from side to side. ‘Today I will breathe like the tide’ - This is a great affirmation to help you feel

peaceful.

Day 3: Sunshine

Lie down and imagine your body is soaking up the sunshine. Feel yourself surrounded by golden sunshine. As the sun warms your body, feel yourself becoming energised and happy.

‘Today I will shine like the sun’ - This is a great affirmation to help you remember

how brilliant you are.

Day 4: Scavenger Hunt

Go on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back in e.g. trees, clouds. What can you find in your house that you can explore for smells or colour? E.g. oranges, lemon, and coffee. • Create a smells and colour mood board. Can you talk about the different things you have found – what colours have you found? What smells have you found? Is it sweet does it smell similar to something else?

Day 5: Palming Rub your hands together to let them warm up for about 15 seconds. Make a cup with your hands and place them over your eyes being careful not to press your eyes with your hands. Hold this position for 30 seconds to 2 minutes. You might like to rest your elbows on the table if your arms are aching. The more relaxed you become, the blacker the darkness you will see with your closed eyes. This exercise brings rest and relaxation to your eyes. ‘Today I will be content n

Moving and Handling: This week we are focussing the P.E. element based on Dance. Can you explore the jungle and behave like some of the animals in the jungle? Make up your own dance each day to this song (see resources – Jungle Music) and use the prompts to help you. Ask your grown up or brother/sister to join in too! The more animals in your dance the better. Have fun!

Warm up: Wake up, shake up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=RD7zySLpeEUcM&v=1gUbdNbu6 ak

Day 1: Exploring the jungle (see resources) Can you pretend that you’re going through the jungle? Do you have to run, jump, hide, stand still or tiptoe? What movements can you come up with as you venture through the jungle?

Day 2: Mirror that monkey (see resources)

Page 3: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

Imagine you’re a monkey in the jungle. How will you move? How do you swing from branch to branch? Are your movements big like a gorilla or small and quick like a lemur? What noise would you make?

Day 3: Slithering snakes (see resources) You are a snake slithering on the ground. How will you make your way up a tall tree? How quick can you slither along the floor? Can you coil up like a snake? Are you a really long snake? Day 4: Lions in the jungle (see resources) Today you are king of the jungle! Do you prowl around the room like a big lion and watch over your pride? (Use chairs and sofas etc. – but be careful) How will you move like a lion? How does a lion sleep? What noise would a lion make? Are you going out to hunt for food? Handwriting – please keep practising your handwriting – This week it is the “The Long Ladder Family”. i j l y Phonics: Phase 2, 3 and 4– Please pick the level that is best suited to you. If you are unsure of your child’s level then please contact your child’s teacher to check. Read through and practise your sounds. Remember to go through your sound cards and practise your sounds every day.

Page 4: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

Those of you seeking an extra challenge have a look at some phase 4 sounds. Phase 4 sounds look at letter blends and words containing CCVCC or CVCC words (C = consonant, V= vowel) such as frost or tent. See resources for full version. The phase 4 sound blends we are looking at this week are lt lp cl and ct. Please apply this to your phonic based work set below. Look at tricky words daily: Couple of ideas

Ask your child to copy the words/ write the words from memory – play hide and seek with the tricky words (adult to hide the words child to find them)

Day 1: Alphabet and sound hunt - take photos

Page 5: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

Go for a walk and find something beginning with every letter of the alphabet and describe it. You could even copy the idea below and choose as many describing words as possible beginning with the same sound. This is called alliteration. You don’t have to worry about the photos. Just jot an alphabet down and take it with you on your walk. Note down things you see beginning with each letter/sound blend and draw them when you get back and add descriptions, just like the examples here. Don’t worry about X & Z. You can always say; “No one was playing the xylophone and we did not see a zebra in a zoo!”

Day 2: Exploring sounds and words What can you tell me about my tennis ball? With your helper, think of some words to describe it. How many words can you think of? ★ Max’s add-a-word challenge: Try to remember each of the words and add another e.g. o This is a green ball. o This is a green, round ball. o This is a green, round, bouncy ball. o This is a green … Let’s have a go now with a toy – Max isn’t allowed to play with this toy mammoth as he’d spoil it. Now try playing Max’s add-a-word challenge with this mammoth.

Now find your favourite toy. Draw its picture and label it and then play Max’s add-a-word challenge.

Challenge: Thinking about your phonics can you write any words that have the same sound/sound blend as one of your describing words e.g. Green, been, bee, see, three Silk, milk, sulk, You can even add some nonsense words in there too! Day 3: Animal Sounds

Page 7: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

During this activity can you make different animal noises that match these pictures? Ask your grown up if they can guess which one you are. Can you then match up the words below to the animals? Once you have done this we would like you to write as many sentences as possible using some of the animal sound words and your phonics. We wonder if you can push yourself to include some Phase 3 or 4 sounds/ sound blends in there. What words can you add in to describe the animal sound?

Day 4: Yes/No Questions

Page 8: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

With your grown up follow the PowerPoint on either phase 3 or 4 and play yes/no questions. Some of the questions are very silly so you might have a bit of a giggle. Challenge: Can you create some of your own yes/no questions to ask your family. Don’t forget to think carefully about the sounds you are using and at the end of the question we use a question mark. Day 5: BINGO! / Pairs Time for some fun and games with your caterpillar words. Turn your words into bingo: You will need a piece of paper and write some caterpillar words on and then separate cards with the words on to be able to call out from a bag/box etc. Use matching words or counters to mark your words that have been called out. The first one to read and say the whole word without sounding it out, for all the words called out on your sheet has to shout BINGO! You can even play pairs with your words – make sure there are two sets of the words you know and then play pairs with a family member. Don’t forget to read and say the whole word without sounding it out. Literacy: Day 1: Max in the jungle Please follow the story on the resources (Max in the jungle) You are going to go on an adventure! We wonder what you might come across!

After you have read the story think carefully about what you have read

and answer these questions. Quiz Questions! Here are a few to get started but your helper may have much better questions. To help you say your answer in sentences, I’ve started off some of the answers for you. ★ What did you like most about the story?

- The part of the story I liked best was … because …

Page 9: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

★ I think Max felt puzzled when he saw the old wooden door. How do you think he felt?

- I think Max felt … because … ★ Tell me what Max saw in the jungle.

- Max saw … ★ Why did Max hide behind a tree?

- Max hid behind the tree because … ★ How did Max find his way back home?

- Max found his way back by … ★ Do you know any other stories about jungles and animals?

Can you draw a picture of what Max saw in the jungle – you can even label it and write some sentences too! Day 2: Guess Who -

We’d like you to have a go at describing animals by giving clues to your grown up. You might want them to give you an example first. Can you describe these 3 animals – We wonder if your grown up will guess right. Can you create your own clues for some other jungle animals? Have a go at writing some clues too and draw a picture on the back, so that you can let your grown up know if they got it right. Your clues may look something like this:

Page 10: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

• It can flap its ears. • It is gigantic. • It is grey. • It begins with the letter 'e'

Day 3: Fact File – Ok explorers it’s time to get our information hats on and think about some real FACTS! We’d like you to think of an animal that lives in the jungle, safari, ocean etc. and we would like you to find out as much information about them as possible. You can do this by looking on the internet with your grown up or looking at any information books you may have. If you can access the web, these sites are very useful for information about jungles and animals https://www.scienceforkidsclub.com/jungles. https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/. You might even find some of these links useful for some information: Dolphins - https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0719wdj/andys animal - raps - series - 1 - 6 - dive - like - a - dolphin Elephants - https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p071b2mn/andys animal - raps - series - 1 - 10 - elephant - stomp Monkeys - https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p06cxyn7/andys animal - raps - series - 1 - 5 - swing - like - a - primate There are others on this website too. We would like you to write a fact file on your chosen animal and tell us the following: (Here is an example – see resources for sheet) My animal is a tiger. It has orange fur with black stripes. It lives in the jungle.

Page 11: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

It eats meat. Include a funky fact e.g. Did you know that no two tigers have the same stripes?

Now you choose which animals you want to write about. Don’t forget to

draw a picture too! Challenge – if you like you can choose more than one animal. Don’t forget to add in as much detail as possible and use those descriptive words. Remember your Capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. Day 4: Safari Adventure – Hunt and Map Your challenge is to go on safari in search of the animals. Once you’ve found them all, try to write down the name of each animal.

Instructions for grown-ups: ★ Together, draw pictures of all the animals– stick drawings will do. If you’ve got a printer, you could print some off, OR if you have any soft toy jungle animals you can use those. ★ Hide each picture/soft toy jungle animals separately somewhere around the rooms where you live or outside if you are able. At the writing stage you might want to help like this: “What sounds can we hear?” “Which letters do we need to write?” “In ‘cat’ there are three small sounds so we write c-a-t.” It’s important to have fun finding the animals so don’t worry if your child can’t spell some of the trickier ones. Encourage them to use their phonics!

The safari map

Here are a few words to help you label your map: lounge, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, cupboard, table, chair, door, shelf, drawer, sofa, cushion, box, floor, in, above, next to, under, by, near, beside, close to, beneath

Day 5: Safari Adventure Write up Write a postcard about your adventure in the jungle. Who could you send it to? Gran, grandad …? Tell them all about the animals and what you have done. You could attach your fact file and drawings and send it all to them in an envelope. They’d love to hear from you. Another letter in the post would be a real treat. See postcard in resources – draw a jungle themed picture on the front!

Reading: Find your favourite book and read it with a member of your family. Share the book together and take it in turns to read. Try different types of books/texts – have you got a favourite story book, information book or magazine? Don’t forget to look on the Oxford Owl reading tree book for any eBooks you might like to read and Phonic Comics

you found where?your safari showing which animals draw a map of where you went on what they find on a map. Can you Great explorers always write down

Maths: Day 1: Adding and subtracting

Please find on the resources a document linked to addition and subtraction number facts.

Day 2: Halving – smoothies. Halving is when we split or cut something into two equal parts/groups - watch the clip: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z6bq6sg Here are some examples too: If I had a cake I could cut it in half and I would end up with 2 pieces of cake.

If I have 4 strawberries and I halve them between Max and his friend then they would both get 2 strawberries.

Page 14: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

It’s thirsty work going through the jungle. Can you make some smoothies with your grown up? See resources for some recipes. When making your smoothies can you have a go at halving. If you halve a slice of banana how many pieces will you have? Halving links with sharing. Halving is when we share something by 2. So if you have 4 strawberries can you halve them? How many strawberries would you both get?

Day 3: Sharing Some of our animal friends are feeling very hungry. Can you help them to share the food? There are 2 Giraffes and 10 leaves – how many leaves will they each get?

Page 15: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

Uh Oh there are 3 very cheeky monkeys and 12 bananas. How many bananas will they each get?

Page 16: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

Here we have 4 lions and 8 pieces of meat….how many pieces of meat will they each get?

Challenge: if you chopped each piece of meat in half – how many pieces of meat would each lion get then? Can you make up some of your own?

Day 4: Heavy, light, tall, small etc. Read the story Dear Zoo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rudDGRQ9QGA Each animal has a different sized cage. Some of the animals are very heavy, some are light some are tall and some are small. Can you create a cage for a different animal that isn’t in the book? How about a cage for a Gorilla? Would they be heavy or light? Big or small? Talk about the differences of weight (heavy

Page 17: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

and light) and size (big and small). If you have some animals at home can you put them in order tallest to smallest? And can you predict which would be the heaviest and which would be the lightest? Maybe have a look at some information books and websites to help you. Day 5: Floating and sinking – estimating

We want you to have a go at making a boat for some of our animals – use any junk that you may have around the house and see if you can make the boat float…..or will it sink? Can you estimate how many animals will fit on to your boat? Which animal will be the lightest? Which animal will be the heaviest? Etc.

Use this to discuss with your child things that float and things that sink.

Creative:

Day 1: Animal Patterns

Can you pick 4 animal prints and similar to last week can you do some observational drawings on them?

Draw a square and divide it so that you have 4 boxes. One for each print. Pick your chosen prints and carefully draw and colour the print.

It should look something like this:

Page 18: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

. Day 2: Max’s Bandana What happened to my bandana at the end of my adventure? Can you design a new bandana for me? You could link it to yesterday’s activity and mix up some animal patterns or draw, colour and create a new one. Talk with your helper about the patterns, colours, spots and stripes. Do you know which animals these patterns belong to?

Day 3: Musical Instrument - animal What you need: • o cardboard tube • o paper e.g. wrapping paper • o 4 elastic bands • o scissors • o rice or dried beans/pasta/beads/shells/or buttons How to make a pair of maracas • First, cut the cardboard tubes so you have 2 pieces (around 15 cms/6ins

long)

Page 19: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

• Next, cut out four big circles from a piece of wrapping paper. Make sure the circles are wider than the end of the tube.

• After that, cover one end of each tube with a paper circle and wrap an

elastic band around the paper. • Then pour some rice into the tubes. • Finally, cover the other end of each tube with a paper circle and fasten

with an elastic band-now shake and dance!

Happy music making! Day 4: Jungle Scene

Using any art materials you have: paint, chalk, crayons, wax crayons, tissue paper, crepe paper etc. Can you create a jungle scene and then add some jungle animals on top? Use the internet or books to find some pictures of the jungle and the animals.

Day 5: Jungle Animal Paper Plate/ handprints

Page 20: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com › ...  · Web viewGo on a scavenger hunt outside and collect items such as: grass, leaves, twig, photos of things we can’t bring back

Make your own jungle animal paper plate. Think carefully about the colours and the patterns.

Can’t wait to see all of your lovely work!
