Main Task: Tangrams

We will end the week with a fun lesson about Tangrams. A tangram is an ancient Chinese puzzle made from a square which has been sliced into different shapes. The aim of the puzzle is to arrange your tangram pieces to copy pictures and shapes. (The pieces must not overlap.)

from around your home.Cube, cuboid, sphere, cylinder, square based pyramid and cone. If you can’t find the last 2 shapes you could use the “Net of a cone and pyramid” sheet on the website to make some out of paper.

Use these shapes to help you complete the 3d shape properties activity on the website. Touch the different faces, edges and vertices with your finger to help you count accurately.

Your task today is to look for the lines of symmetry in different shapes and draw them in. (Look carefully – some shapes might have more than one line of symmetry.)

Don’t forget – you must use a ruler to draw your lines of symmetry.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmwXaoiQNUc

On the website you will find a tangram puzzle to cut out (you could colour the pieces first) and some animal pictures to copy. Have fun!

Could you make up some tangram pictures of your own?

You can choose when to do the activities below – spend as much time as you like.

BEING KIND This week try to think about all the things that you are grateful for. Think about the big things like family and having somewhere safe to live, but don’t forget the little things like your tasty sandwich or your favourite book. Jot them down on the Gratitude Journal (see website) and remember these things in your prayers.

STAYING CONNECTED

We are going to build a “Wall of Friendship” on our class page this week. Draw round your own hand and put a picture of yourself in the middle. Then think about 5 of your friends in Year 2 and add their names onto each finger. Send in a photo of your picture and I will add it to the website.

ART Now that you have lots of experience of drawing flowers, we are going to create a picture from your imagination. Using whichever drawing materials you prefer, make a garden of imaginary flowers. How many different types of flower can you include? Think about different sizes, petal shapes, heights, leaf shapes. Keep drawing until you have filled the page. When you have finished, give your picture a title and sign it just like a real artist. Find somewhere

you can display it for everyone to enjoy.
