Important Reminder-Locking Front Doors at PCPS

Beginning Monday, February 3, our school doors, including the front door, will be locked 15 minutes after the morning bell rings. The doors will remain locked for the rest of the school day. All visitors, including Board staff, parents and guardians, will be required to buzz in and sign in at the main office.

Our school continues to be a safe place where we welcome and encourage parent and community member involvement. This additional step will en-hance the measures we already have in place for student and staff safety, and ensure that all visitors sign in at the main office.

Celebrating Multiculturalism In February

BAHA’I FAITH

February 26 – March 1 Intercalary Days are four days (five in a leap year) that do not belong to any month.

They are days of celebration, gift-giving, hospitality and charitable works.

HUNDUISM

February 4 Vasant Panchami is particularly celebrated in Northern India. This festival marks the advent

of Spring. Also known as Shri Panchami, it is a celebration commonly associated with Shri or Lakshmi (Goddess of Wealth). It is also commonly linked with the Goddess of Learning, Saraswati.

February 28 Mahashivaratri (or Shivaratri, “Great Shiva Night”) is a special night of prayer. Devotees sing the praises of Shiva, one of the major Hindu deities.

Triple P Tip of the Month …………...Being Bullied Bullying is common in elementary school children; as many as one in seven children are bullied at least once a week. Most children will experience bullying at some time. Boys are more likely to be bullied or bully others. Bullying is usually hidden from adults and can be a traumatic experience that can affect your child’s self-esteem. KEY STEPS:

- If bullying is occurring, take action right away - Talk to the adults in charge of the place where the bullying occurs - Calmly listen to your child and find out exactly what has been happening - Summarize the problem and tell your child possible reasons for bullying - Ask your child’s opinion on how to deal with the problem - Act out the solution with your child before they try it out - If bullying occurs at school, make sure the school is aware of the problem

Message from our Trustee-Mr. Martin Van Beek This is an exciting time for our Board. We recently launched our new Mission, Vision and Values, and the Board’s first slogan – Inspire Learning! Our new mission statement – to advance student achievement and well-being through public education, which motivates learners, fosters inclusion, inspires innovation and builds community – will help to guide our work and move us forward in the months and years ahead.

Thank you to everyone who shared their input. We look forward to bringing these statements to life in our school com-munities.

We are now halfway through the school year, a good time to celebrate all that your children have achieved and to set goals for the rest of the year. I encourage you to speak with your child not only about what they are learning, but also how they are learning. There are so many exciting and innovative things happening in our schools.

Best wishes for an enjoyable and successful second term.

Thank you to our School Council for funding Junglesport for all our students!

My Three Wishes for the World

I want the world to be awesome. My three wishes to make the world awesome are that there would be no war, no hungry chil-dren and that we save the Humpback whale.

War is about killing people. War is bad. I wish there was no war. People should use their words to solve their problems. People fight because they don’t have food. I am lucky because I have food. My mom works and has money to buy food.

My third wish is to save the animals. My favourite is the Humpback whale. They need feel safe and free. I want to save them because they could become extinct. People are killing them for fun and for food.

I would like to see no hungry children in the whole world. People everywhere could feed them. They buy food for them and give them money to buy food. These are my three wishes people and the world.

By Evan W.

In this world there are many wishes that little children have. I just can’t think of one, I have to choose three. My wishes for the world are to give homes for the homeless, world peace, and to save the polar bears. If this could help the world then I would be so happy because I want to help the world.

First I believe that the homeless need homes to survive so I wish that we could give homes by either making them or letting them stay in our homes for 10 days. The homeless need homes because its cold and having a home keeps you safe it’s like a se-curity system.

World peace is when there is no more war and everyone has freedom because freedom is very important. If you did not have freedom you would not be free. if you were not free then you would not be able to do the things that we are doing today so I think we should stop war and have freedom so no one has to die.

My 3rd wish is for people to stop hunting because hunting is the practice of pursuing animals like the polar bears. On Wednes-day, February 27 it is international polar bear day, you need to turn down your thermostat. The polar bears are going to be extinct. The polar bears homes are being melted because global warning. I feel bad because if that was our homes then we would feel sad.

These three wishes may not be the most important but they are my wishes for the world. So I believe that these three wishes can help the world be a better place to live in.
