Richard’s feature kitchen
When Claire approached Princess Design to redesign her new kitchen the most important criteria was functionality “With 4 young children the kitchen had to be practical – I needed to be able to keep an eye on the kids without them getting in my way!! The layout was crucial”.
Richard suggested moving the dining room back to its original room, just of the main kitchen space and bringing the soft seating area into the bottom part of the room. “Initially I was really against bringing the ‘snug’ area into the kitchen as previously this was an area where the kids could play without being in my way! But I am so pleased with the end result as it softens the whole of the room and means we can relax in the kitchen as well as prepare” “ …sitting on the sofas at the end of the day with a glass of wine is lovely! Plus on Sundays the whole family can sit in the dining room and have a properly family meal together – it really has changed the way we use the room and improved the quality of our family time!”
Richard was keen to increase the worktop area and storage in the room. By restructuring the room by building the American Fridge/Freezer into the far wall by the Utility it opened up the kitchen area and created a sense of space as well as additional worktop.
“The spec was to create a homely kitchen whilst incorporating innovative features and a cutting edge look. The raised corian circular seating area gives plenty of seating whilst creating a focal point to the design” Furthermore the ‘floating’ base units and recessed lighting help create a modern cutting edge wow factor.
Specific practical elements were incorporated into the design for ease of use, such as the Quooker Hot water tap and the niche utensil holders, Claire says “everything is now organized and to hand and the kitchen works so well – I cant imagine working in the old kitchen anymore! I would recommend Princess design to anyone”

Michael and Bethan opted for Graphite Alno Art Pro glass doors and bone corian worktops. The end result has been a beautiful kitchen with a ‘modern rustic’ feel. The client also chose Miele appliances and a coffee machine and they state their favourite feature is the ‘elica star’ extractor hood which makes a striking feature in the centre of the room.
The client also had their three bedrooms installed at the same time utilising beautiful dark gloss doors and american walnut tops to dramatic effect.
Richard suggested repositioning the entrance into the kitchen and knocking these 3 small rooms into one with the result being a lovely space in which to create a working island.
When Michael and Bethan Roberts moved into their new home - a 100 year old converted barn - they knew the kitchen and bedrooms all needed revamping. They chose Princess Design because they had Princess design their previous kitchen and bedrooms and had been highly delighted with the finished result. The existing kitchen was a small room with a further small room behind it and a utility behind that!

Paul was impressed with the whole process “from design to installation the whole project was professional. We asked Princess Design to do the whole project and every aspect was completed on time and to a high standard, right from building work and tiling, through installation, even down to the granite fitting and the inclusion of our granite windowboards as an extra at the end”
The end result has been a modern walnut kitchen with horizontal grain slab doors with dark granite worktops which is rich in appearance but still light and spacious.
I particularly like Mr and Mrs Bradbury’s kitchen as it was previously 2 separate rooms which didn’t work with modern family life and each room was dark and uninspiring. By removing the dining room wall the room was suddenly filled with light and space and could now stand the rich walnut doors Mr and Mrs Bradbury loved.
Michelle and Paul had looked at many kitchen companies, all of whom had kept the hob on the back wall- “Princess was the only company to suggest the hob on the peninsular in the centre of the room, and it has made such a massive difference and made the room the hub of our everyday family life – and I love the minimalist island hood which makes a lovely feature”

Nigel and Karen were recommended by friends to talk to Andrew when the time came to replace their kitchen.
The kitchen formed part of an extensive refurbishment of the property, with the new kitchen and living area forming the centre of the family home. Karen states ‘I simply wanted a WOW kitchen, and had an idea of the appliances we wanted – the rest we left to Andrew! ’
‘Andrew came up with a scheme that I really couldn’t fault. He had listened to our wishlist, and come up with a fantastic design fulfilling all of our requirements. I was adamant that I wanted a white kitchen with white worktops, but Andrew persuaded us to go for a light grey quartz worktop and also to introduce some oak elements to help make a link between the kitchen and living areas. I’m so glad he managed to change my mind!’
The circular raised Corian area works well as a real contrast to the angular straight lines of the handleless kitchen. I love the way it intersects perfectly with the island worktop and the family can sit comfortably, without the need to use the dining table.
Essential to the design was an area for the family to chill out! ‘The ‘working ‘ part of the kitchen blurs effortlessly into a sleek lounge feel using units of different heights and depths, here we can relax on the sofa whilst watching the TV that is recessed into the contemporary oak wall panelling. Andrew also produced a matching oak sideboard behind the dining table, which further helps link the areas together.’

England International Cricketer Ryan Sidebottom’s Kitchen
Former Nottinghamshire and England cricketer Ryan Sidebottom and his wife Kate were on the lookout for a local kitchen company to help them complete their home renovation project.
With their smart window displays Princess Kitchens and Bedrooms opposite the Nottinghamshire ground caught their eye. After meeting the staff and designer (Dylan Clarke), Ryan and Kate decided that the level of service, flexibility and attention to detail was exactly what they were looking for.
The brief was to design a clean crisp modern kitchen with seating for two people and a wow factor. The CAD impressions enabled the couple to see how the room would look and how the different colours would work together. Eventually it was decided to combine Cappuccino high gloss cubist gloss units with panels of real walnut. These two colours are stunning when teamed up and the walnut adds a real warmth to any kitchen.
The finishing touch would be the worktop. To help create the wow factor quartz crystal dark shell was chosen. This is a cream base worktop with tiny shell pieces that catch the light. The focal point of the kitchen is really the large island complete with frameless induction hob and loads of prep area. It also provides the seating with a curved section which allows two people to sit comfortably.

There was only one thing that Barbara Rockett wanted in her new kitchen - light. “Dark, dark, dark, that was the only word for it” she said with feeling.
“I was longing for a kitchen that was altogether lighter and brighter”. But the light was a long time coming, for the kitchen was the last room to be tackled in a seven year restoration of a Victorian terraced house in Staffordshire by Barbara and partner Bill Rockett.
The couple who run a house rental company, started with the roof and worked their way down to the cellars before getting to grips with the kitchen – not a moment too soon recalls Barbara. It was just awful. I was longing to get rid of the dark brown cupboards and green worktops.
Their first step was to remove the rear wall of the kitchen, replacing it with a tri-fold floor to ceiling glass doors, which can be folded back in the Summer to give open access to the pretty courtyard garden. “It’s a real suntrap”.Next it was time to do their homework on kitchen furniture.
“We visited lots and lots of kitchen showrooms” recalls Barbara but we liked the Princess Kitchens one immediately. Showroom manager Dave Nicholls worked hard to ensure that the layout of the room kept the open feel.
Barbara’s final word...

The timeless elegance of in frame ivory is beautifully emphasised in this truly stately kitchen. Showing the attention to detail you would expect from a kitchen of this kind it stands out from the rest. With solid wood dovetail drawer boxes, circular end grain chopping board inset into the granite, deluxe plate rack and the trademark chimney breast feature this kitchen exudes grandeur.
The marriage of ivory and oak has always been strong and none less so than here with even the plate rack spindles being contrasted in oak. Tongue and groove panelling and fantastic glass dressers with glass shelving and open book casing complete the look. All of this is set off by the superb granite and inset sink area.
Traditional criss-cross wine racks could also be incorporated at the clients request, as well as castellated cornice, light pelmet and solid pedestalled plinth.

I am writing to thank you for all your
efforts in organising the installation of
our new kitchen. I would never have
believed that it was possible to achieve
so much extra space in a kitchen which
had no doubt already had its fair share of
kitchen designers at work! Your design
has proved a winner and the expert way
in which Simon and Tom executed it with
such enthusiasm and dedication would
leave me no hesitation in recommending
you to anyone contemplating the

I have recently had a new kitchen from your
company and am writing to thank you for the
excellent service I received. Your fitters have just
this minute finished. The design of the kitchen is
excellent, making full use of a small space and
making the kitchen seem much larger than it actually
is. The quality of the kitchen is also very good. It
looks and feels splendid. Most of all I would like to
commend the fitters, Nick and Chris, who obviously
take pride in doing an excellent job. They pay fine
attention to every detail and make sure that every
aspect of their work is first class. They were very
pleasant and lovely to have around my home. Even
you after sales service is great, there were some
minor problems with the kitchen. Nick and Chris
arrived back today to sort them out.
A.M. Mackinnon, Sheffield
I wish to thank you for the excellent
way you carried out the renovation
of the kitchen. Jean is delighted with
the result. I was impressed with the
quality of the contractors and the
standard of their work.

Mr and Mrs Criminisi
Mr and mrs Criminisi had approached a couple of companies and had been uninspired by design. When they approached Richard at Princess they felt inspiration would come.
Richard discussed using a lava grey stone structure surround to the tall units and tiring this colour in on the raised breakfast bar. Between Richard and Mr and Mrs Criminisi it was also decided to have an open shelf unit at the end of the island to add interest and also to incorporate floating units and offset wall units . The result -STUNNING!!

Mr and Mrs Kubik
Heidi and her designer at Princess, Richard, looked at many options for her new kitchen but the importance was to create a dramatic effect in the new extension. With plenty of glass letting in light it was possible to utilise the stunning Nero Oxide colour in the Alno star Cera range with a matching ceramic island worktop.
The result was every bit as dramatic as hoped and the kitchen looks amazing. The darker Cera doors contrast beautifully with the polished glass blue Vetrina floating sink run. Another feature was the vintage wood surround to the tall units which adds a lovely natural element in appearance to the kitchen.
In addition the S shape breakfast bar allows plenty of seating in the kitchen and is designed so that the seating can make the most of the lightest area of the room. The mix of materials and textures is particularly pleasing and finally the lighting is certainly worthy of the project and is cleverly positioned at various heights to create a lovely ambience within the kitchen area.

When Brad and Judith went into the Sutton Cold field showroom they immediately fell in love with the dark ceramic doors as they were completely unique and different from anything else they had seen.
They wanted to open out the kitchen and create a large family space . The rounded island allows for all the family to sit for breakfast as well as create a central cooking area. The extractor bulkhead above also creates a lovely lighting feature
Princess also undertook Brad and Judith’s bathrooms.

Mr and Mrs Millar
Black glass worktops on black glass furniture has been used by the designer, Richard Sharp (from the Sutton Coldfield Princess Design showroom), to create a true “wow” factor in Mr and Mrs Millar’s home. A unique kitchen indeed which sets itself apart from the normal colour trends and creates a really exclusive impressive look.
The use of aubergine quartz to offset the black glass works very well. Not only stunning but also very ergonomic and useable with a seating area big enough for the whole family, and a central hob area so the whole family can integrate and socialise whilst cooking.
Richard states “I particularly like the black glass furniture here because it is a big room and also has plenty of wooden beams so that the room itself offers a natural feel and is a really good backdrop against the extremely modern, hi tech black glass furniture”

Mr and Mrs Hanson from Sutton Coldfield had decided on ALNO from the outset having examined the quality and construction of the furniture – now all they needed was a company to make it all happen!
In particular they wanted a company who could co-ordinate the building work, tiling and installation. Princess Design provided a service to do exactly that. Walls and ceilings came out, windows were moved and very soon the room was twice the size! After two weeks from the first day on the job all the services were repositioned, all the walls and ceilings were replastered, and the floor retiled - the room was ready for the lovely new kitchen, and a week later it was all completed – including the beautiful platinum silestone quartz worktops.
Mr Hanson comments;
“By using a professional company with experience in fully project managing such a job we saved a lot of hassle and actually cost us less than if we had organized all the work ourselves.
I would highly recommend Princess Design to anyone as nothing was too much trouble and it was plain to see they truly cared about customer satisfaction and achieving a ‘job well done’ – we are delighted with the finished result.
We could have used more local tradesman but we are so glad of the team that Richard sent to us from Staffordshire as they knew exactly what they were doing and probably got it completed a lot quicker anyway despite travelling from out of the area”
Princess Design are the appointed ALNO Premier Dealer for Staffordshire and the West Midlands, with two showrooms in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Sutton Coldfield.
