News at Central PRINCIPAL: Michael Fisher
Welcome back everyone to another great week at Broken
Hill Public School as we continue to inspire the Power Of
Positives (POP).
It is great to be back after a week of meetings in Sydney to
hear all the positive stories of the last week at Broken Hill
Public. Unfortunately I will be in and out of the school over
the next couple of weeks with more meetings. I look forward
to being able to ‘brag’ about our awesome school while at
these meetings.
A big thank you to all who participated in the Swimming
Carnival, whether competing, cheering or as an official. It
was a great day. A huge thanks to Mr Perkins for all the
organising of the Carnival.
Safety
A reminder to families collecting children at the end of the
day and who exit to Mica Lane. We ask that people please
use the footpath along the preschool and not the driveway
to avoid any accidents with cars also exiting the driveway.
Thank you for continuing to put the safety of the children as a
priority.
Yours in education
Michael Fisher

Coffee Club is back! It starts up again this week - Week 6. Please note the new day of Thursday.
All parents and caregivers, especially those new to the school, are invited to pop in to our very relaxed
Coffee Club, which will run every Thursday afternoon in the Meeting Room from 2.15 – 3:00 pm. Enjoy
some social chit-chat over a cuppa or cool drink. And as like last year, some sessions will involve an
interesting presentation by a guest speaker, whether that be one of our teachers or someone from an
external organisation. This is your Coffee Club, so we are open to suggestions as to what you would like
to know more about.
Day: Thursdays
Time: 2:15 pm
Place: Meeting Room

I’m looking forward to catching up with our regulars and meeting new friends. See you on Thursday!

Students in Years 5 and 6 will be given the opportunity to travel to Canberra for
the Stage 3 excursion in Term 2. Planning is in progress with the proposed dates
being Monday June 18th until Friday June 22 [Week 8 Term 2]. More information
regarding the itinerary, student requirements and cost will come home in the
near future. Parents and carers are advised this excursion will probably be priced
between $600 and $700. Student banking is a great way to save towards this
excursion. Please see Mr Dougherty if you have any questions.
CANTEEN NEWS If you can help any Wednesday, Thursday or
Friday please see Heather at the canteen.
Changes must be made to our Canteen
Menu in 2018 and 2019. Food and drinks will
now be classified Everyday or Occasional.
This will make availability of healthy food and
drink options the easy choice. Any inquiries
please contact the canteen
New School Banking rewards now available! Exciting new Term 1 rewards with a Super Savers theme are now available, while stocks last! Twister Power Handball Secret Scratch Pad

There are two new items released each term so be sure to keep an eye out for them! Thank you for supporting the School Banking program and remember, School Banking day is every Wednesday.
Last Friday was a glorious day to hold a school swimming carnival. Our
primary students enjoyed a fantastic schedule of swimming races with
several memorable performances. It was great to see our students never
give up and show excellent sportsmanship throughout the day.
In addition, it was awesome to see our Central infants students loving their
couple of hours of fun water activities down at the Broken Hill Aquatic
Complex. Overall, the winning house this year was THORPE, who just edged
out Freeman to take the win.
A massive thank you to those parents and staff who helped out and made it
a successful carnival. Student’s individual place ribbons and champions
medals will be announced and awarded at this Friday's School assembly.
Barrier PSSA Trials
This year Barrier PSSA trials will be held in the Sunraysia district of our region.
AFL trials will be held on the evening of Thursday 22nd March.
Basketball, Football and Netball trials will be held during the day on Friday 23rd March.
Students who wish to be considered for a Barrier PSSA team need to be able to attend these trials and have their permission note signed.
Students interested in trialling to attend the NSWPSSA Cricket this year should be advised that Barrier students will be part of Western region from 2018 onwards and that trials will be held in Dubbo in Term 3. More information will be distributed closer to the date.
