FROM THE PRINCIPAL TEAM
We have had a busy start to Term 4. This week we began our transition for 2015 Prep students. It is amazing how the year flies
by!
During the holidays we had some very sad news that one of our students, Ava Le Huray, was diagnosed with Childhood Leukaemia.
She is currently undergoing treatment at the Royal Children’s Hospital and is staying at Ronald McDonald House.
We know Ava will be okay but faces a battle with severe treatment. If you would like assistance in talking to your children about this
please don’t hesitate to ask at the office.
We would l like to help the family by holding an ‘Out of Uniform Day’ next Friday October 24th where all donations will go to Ava, the theme will be ‘Inside Out , Back To Front, Upside Down Day. The community is also supporting the family with a fundraiser
called ‘A Party For Ava!’ Details to follow.
BREAKFAST CLUB Next week we are starting a breakfast club at our school every
Monday and Wednesday. Breakfast will be served at 8.00am in our Kitchen Garden building. Everyone is welcome to come along.
Breakfast is an important start to the day. Rotary are assisting us to run the program and we thank them for their help.
BOOK IGLOO We built our Book Igloo on Saturday at the Working Bee. It looks great. A big thanks to our igloo builders and for the
donations of books.
EMA A reminder that the Education Maintenance Allowance will
not be provided to parents next year as part of the Government’s cut backs. As a school, we will try and
support parents who rely on EMA to fund school fees and excursions.
CHOOK SHED Our new chook shed was built last weekend at the Working
Bee. The chook shed will house chickens that Year 4 students are hatching from eggs. The shed is in our
Kitchen Garden near the drop off zone.
WESTERN WATER COMPETITION Congratulations to Charlie McKinnon for winning the
Western Water Competition.
BULLYING Last week at assembly our Year 6 students presented a performance about Bullying. We listened to the Madden
Brothers song ‘Done, Done, Done’ while children held up signs declaring we are ‘DONE’ with all forms of bullying. Please continue to talk to children about such forms of
bullying as name calling, exclusion, hurting others, labelling and racism.
CHINA/MANDARIN We are very lucky to receive a $10,000 grant to further develop our Chinese Sister School relationship. In two
weeks Megan Fromholtz, Yvonne Muller, Sabrina Li and I will travel to China to formally sign a Sister School
agreement with Langya Rd P.S. The teachers will be involved in a teacher exchange program at the school and I
am presenting workshops at an International Forum in Nanjing.

Dear Parents,
We would like to ask for your co-operation in an important matter.
One of our children at school is receiving medical treatment which puts them
at risk if they develop chicken pox or measles. The risk for this child can be
reduced by receiving a special injection as soon as possible after coming in
contact with these illnesses.
It is very important therefore, that you let us know immediately if your child
develops chicken pox or measles, so that the child at risk receives the
protective injection at the earliest opportunity. This protection lasts for a few
weeks only, and must be repeated every time they come into contact with
these illnesses.
Your child is at no risk whatsoever from this situation, however, the health
and wellbeing of one of his/her classmates does depend on your help and co-
operation.
With many thanks
Ian Wren

HEAD LICE
We have had some reported cases of head lice in our school. Please be vigilant with checking your child’s hair.
KILOMETRE CLUB Just a reminder that every Tuesday and Friday from 8.30am we run a kilometre
club. Students, teachers and parents are invited to walk or run the short course. We meet on the back oval at the gate to Masons Lane. It is a great way
to start the day and clear the head. Hope to see you there.
