PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,

The month of February will present several opportunities for the students at Holy Redeemer. Each Monday during lunch our grades 1-8 students will have an opportunity to participate in playball. Skating at Cummer Arena also continues in February for an additional three sessions. Most recently, I have organized dance lessons for the grades 1-8 students. Our students will be partnered up with their peers and taught three dances by the very talented Dance Instructor Alex Smith. Not only will students acquire a skill, but these lessons also provide an opportunity for our teachers to generate a dance mark for term 2. The series of lessons will culminate in a show on the evening of March 7th (SAVE THE DATE). Thanks to the generosity of Reverend Peter Cho, who shares our school facilities each Sunday, and with the assistance of The Angel Foundation for Learning, all of the activities listed above will be free for our parents.

A representative from St. Michael’s Choir school will also be coming to Holy Redeemer to hear our grade 2 boys sing. Once St. Michael’s has confirmed the date we will let our par-ents know.

We are also having a garage sale this Friday, February 3rd. Please bring in your child’s gently-used puzzles, games, books and toys over the course of this week. These items will be sold for a fraction of their original cost with all proceeds going to ShareLife. Any unsold items will be donated to a local charity.

Mme. Bichay has also been busy planning several activities for our Carnaval festivities. More information will be sent home shortly regarding this celebration.

In regards to the Accommodation Review process for Holy Redeemer C.S., we will update the parent of any new updates from the TCDSB.

As always please call the school if you have any questions or concerns that you would like addressed.

Lake St. George

Our school trip to Lake St. George (LSG) was awesome. First of all the food was delicious; there was everything from chicken quesadillas to banana cake. I think the honey garlic meatballs were the best! Besides delicious meals there were also very enjoyable games and activities. We went nature photographing and took some stunning pictures of the scenery. There was also a fun GPS activity. The LSG staff hid boxes filled with cards that we had to find using our GPS. Predator and Prey was my favourite game. You ran around trying to dodge hunters, carnivores, omnivores, diseases and weather. At the end of each day we acknowledged someone we saw do something nice or selfless. Lake St. George was the best school trip I ever had!

Gr.5-8 Trip to Lake St. George (L.S.G)

This past week we went to an interactive place called Lake St. George Conservation Field Centre. There, we learned how to build a community. First of all, the activities were AWESOME! My personal favourite was geocaching. Geocaching is finding boxes filled with cards using a GPS. Every day we learned a new way to build a community in groups. I was in group 1. During these games, we worked on finding hidden things. Another game that helped us build community was instincts for survival. It is where you are an animal and you have to run away from other animals, hunters and elements (disease). Last but not least, the food was plentiful. My favourite was the honey garlic meatballs and Ms. Weiss’ cookies. I would greatly like to thank Mr. Francescutto and Ms. Weiss for organizing this trip.

Gr. 5-8 Trip to Lake St. George

During the fourth week of January, the grades 5-8 enjoyed a wonderful experience at Lake St. George Outdoor Education Centre. We experienced the great outdoors throughout the five day/four night trip. Students made many unforgettable memories that they will cherish for a lifetime.

Throughout the five days, we participated in many activities and played several fierce games of ping pong. Some of the activities were Animal Ecology, where we got the chance to search around the property for animal life.

Another game we were lucky enough to play was the Instincts for Survival, also known as Predator-Prey. In this game, we each represented an animal that was either a herbivore, an omnivore or a carnivore. We were set unleashed to venture through the forest, catching prey and finding food and water to survive.

These are just a few of the many great activities we enjoyed during our stay where our main objective was to build community skills.

Nicholas from Ms. Weiss’ Grade 7/8 class
