PRINCIPAL OF QUEEN ETHELBURGA’S COLLEGIATE Queen Ethelburga’s is seeking an inspirational, innovative, effective and ambitious strategic leader, who will embrace the ethos of the Collegiate and build on the excellent work done to date by the incumbent Principal, Mr Steven Jandrell.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate, who will effectively navigate the ever-changing national and international educational landscape, to build on the strengths of our four schools. He or she will work with the CEO to develop the strategic vision and future direction for the Collegiate, whilst empowering all members of the Collegiate to play their active part in achieving that vision.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to provide the required challenge and drive to take this ‘Excellent’ rated (ISI 2019)

group of schools into the next stage of the Collegiate’s journey.

Our historyQueen Ethelburga’s began life as a Woodard Corporation school, founded in 1912 and was located in Harrogate. In 1991, it became a privately-owned proprietorial school and was renamed Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate, moving to its current site on the Thorpe Underwood Estate near York.

Today, the Collegiate includes Chapter House, King’s Magna, the College and the Faculty. Chapter House caters for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), for pupils up to the age of 5, and Years 1 to 5, and King’s Magna caters for pupils in Years 6 to 9. Both the Faculty and the College cater for pupils in Years 10 to 13, dependent on their educational pathway.

The ISI inspection reports of February 2019 found that the Collegiate met all the Regulatory Compliance Standards, while also achieving excellent Educational Quality, Residential Provision and outstanding EYFS outcomes.

JOB TITLE: PRINCIPALReporting to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

JOB PURPOSETo provide strategic leadership for the whole Collegiate and hold overall accountability for direction and standards achieved, ensuring the highest quality and outcomes, inclusive of safeguarding (child protection), learning (progress over time) and teaching, the boarding experience and pastoral care. The Principal should also:• Have responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the health, safety and welfare of students

and staff, providing a secure and inclusive climate, where all students feel safe, valued and secure;• Ensure the Collegiate remains fully compliant with all aspects of the Independent School

Standards Regulations (ISSR) and the National Minimum Standards for Boarding (NMS) along with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework;

• Provide leadership and management, which enables the Collegiate to give every student a high-quality education and which promotes the highest possible standards of achievement and well-being;

• Communicate the Collegiate’s vision and drive the strategic leadership, empowering all students and staff to excel;

• Ensure that the education and interests of our students are at the centre of everything we do at Queen Ethelburga’s.

STRATEGIC DIRECTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE COLLEGIATE• Continue, with the CEO, the development of a strategic view for the Collegiate’s, and analyse

• Ensure a continuous and consistent focus on students’ achievement, using data and benchmarks to monitor progress and make improvements where necessary;

• Establish creative, responsive and effective approaches to teaching and learning;• Monitor, evaluate and review school practice and promote improvement strategies;• Actively promote curriculum development and innovation, within all areas of life across

the Collegiate’s strategic plan and financial context;• Work with political and financial astuteness, within a clear set of principles centred on the
