There were some wonderful results achieved by the Oberon students, with many students qualifying to compete in the Western Zone finals on Thursday 20
th
June. We had two teams that won their divisions on the day, these were the Under 15 Girl’s Team and the Under 14 Boy’s Team.
Year 7 Enrolments 2020
We are currently receiving our Year 7 enrolments from our feeder primary schools for the 2020 school year. Whilst the final number of students in Year 7 in 2020 won’t be finalised until later in the year, the trend that we are seeing is that the number of families choosing Oberon, as their first choice, has increased significantly over the past few years.
End of Semester Reports
Families will receive a copy of their children’s report on the last day of term, this will be posted electronically via the school portal (Xuno Student Management Tool) after 3.30pm on Friday 28
th June.
School Uniform
A reminder to parents that all students are expected to wear the correct school uniform at all times. With the weather being a lot colder it is important that students have an appropriate Oberon High School top to wear to keep them warm. If students are wearing an extra layer under their school top, this is not to be a hoody. Students now have the option of purchasing a puffer jacket, which can be ordered in the General Office. The remainder of the uniform can be purchased at PSW Uniforms. Your support with this is most appreciated. Last Day Of Term Arrangements
On Friday 28th
June, the school will finish at 2.30pm. All buses have been alerted to this earlier dismissal time.

Armstrong Creek
As I mentioned in the previous newsletter and also through a letter to the school community, a further $34.5 million on top of the $6.4 million that we received in previous budgets was allocated to allow for the construction of the new school at Armstrong Creek. Following the State Budget funding announcement, I had a meeting with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and the Department of Education Regional office to establish protocols for communication, establish timelines and also to identify issues that will need to be considered as part of our relocation to Armstrong Creek for the start of the 2021 school year. This will be the first of regular meetings that will be occurring. I can now confirm that Kane Constructions have been appointed to the contract to build the school. They have already surveyed the site, and during this week put up fencing to designate this as a construction site. It is anticipated that ground works on the site will begin within the next couple of weeks. Kane Constructions have indicated that all is going well and without unforeseen hold ups or issues. They anticipate that it will take approximately 16 months to complete the project. As previously indicated, I will continue to keep the school community informed of developments around this project, both through our school website and the school newsletter.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
On Thursday 30th May, Oberon hosted a World ’s Greatest Shave event. We raised $8,551.47 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Seventeen people had their heads shaved by apprentice hairdressers from the Gordon who volunteered their time. Where possible the hair was saved and this has been mailed to a salon that makes wigs that are given to people who lose their hair due to their treatment for cancer.
It was a terrific day – with a dunk tank, BBQ, food and drink stalls, raffle prizes, and coloured hair spray on offer at lunchtime. The student shelter was decorated in orange and blue. There was lots of music, cheering, laughter and energy. Many families were there to support their children in shaving their heads. The community spirit was great to see.
Thanks and congratulations to the students in 9A who planned and or-ganised the day. This forms part of the volunteering component of the Duke of Edinburgh Award which they are completing as part of the En-hancement Program.
The people who shaved were: Alex Honeywell, Connor Nearn, Teemu Brasier, Elijah Selkrig, Oskar Frahm, Greg Burgess, Celeste Schmid, Jamie Shomali, Jacob Robinson, Angus Gale, Trae MacFadyen, Michael Ferrier, Jamie Garcia Baldonado, Luke Johnson, Sam Scott and Wolfe Eadie-Macklin. Thank you to these people, who bravely participated in the event.
Many of these people are now wearing beanies in the cold winter weather!

IMMUNISATIONS - YEAR 10
Students need to be responsible for bringing their lunch each day. They need regular fuel for energy. This means a healthy lunch and snack everyday at school. This may be lunch from home or purchased from the Canteen which provides a healthy selection. If you son or daughter forgets their lunch they can come to the Office before school or at the start of lunch or Recess to call a parent to bring some lunch or money up to school. As the Canteen is an independent business it is not possible for them to issue lunch passes. Please note that the Office can not longer lend money to students for lunches. We hope that this will encourage your sons and daughters

VCE IMPORTANT DATES
If your son or daughter becomes unwell at school they need to ask for permission from their teacher to come straight to the Office to be signed into Sick Bay.
If the student is too unwell to remain at school a staff member in the office will then telephone a parent. For safety reasons it is important for
students not to telephone their parents themselves.
Please remind your son or daughter that Sick Bay is a place for sick students to rest before being picked up by a parent or to rest for 15 minutes before returning to class. It is not a place for extended stays.
It is vitally important for parents to provide up to date contact numbers and emergency numbers in case of illness or emergency.
Please remember that if your child is sick the best place for them to recover is at home.
