PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Welcome to Week 7 of Term 2.

The long weekend provided us all with a

wonderful opportunity to rest and recharge

in the warmth of the winter sunshine and I

look forward to an energised week ahead.

We held our big assembly on Friday from

separate classrooms. Students voice-

recorded their messages for peers and Year

5/6 Curlews provided a dance video

performance as a mid-term assessment

opportunity for the class. With feedback from

their peers, they learnt about the

improvement process and were able to

increase the quality of their performance.

Today, we move back to whole school breaks,

with students in their class groups allocated

areas in the school to sit and eat lunch to

avoid the whole school congregating

together to eat. After consulting the SRC, we

have ordered extra outdoor seating and

when they arrive students will have a variety

of seating options to eat and learn outside.

This week staff are preparing for parent-

teacher interviews that will be conducted

next week and I encourage you to make an

appointment for a face-to-face, phone or

video call with your child’s class teacher to

discuss their learning so far this year, as we

PBL – ONLINE LEARNING While we have returned to school, our PBL

focus continues to be online learning. This is

because we are using technology to provide

differentiated, engaging learning experiences

to our students and devices feature

prominently in all classrooms throughout the

day.

This fortnight we will be teaching students

about responsibility during online learning.

Focus on Learning – It only takes a few clicks

to get off track! I am sure we have all had

that experience. As a student using a device,

responsibility is needed to stay on the

learning task and NOT get distracted.

Communicate Clearly – It is easy to have

your message misconstrued. Think carefully

before you communicate online. Avoid

abbreviations and have something important

to say or ask if you are going to post. DO NOT

post personal comments about others. Your

communication should be about learning

tasks.

Share the space – Ask questions to find out

information related to your learning. Answer

questions if someone posts a question and

you can help them solve their problem.

SOCIAL MEDIA – HOW DO I KEEP MY

CHILD SAFE?

There are a number of key ways to keep your

child safe online.

• Remind your child to tell a trusted

adult if they are bullied online.

• Tell your child not to share their

passwords with others.

• Remind your child to only give their

mobile number or personal

information to trusted friends.

• Talk with your child and understand

the ways in which they are using the

internet and their mobile phone.

• Find out the age restrictions for the

sites and applications your child

wants to use.

• Depending on the age of your child,

set up your own accounts and ‘friend’

your child. By doing this, you can

understand how the site’s privacy

settings work, see what your child

posts online and how your child

responds to posts made by others.

• Make sure that your child’s account

settings are set to ‘private’ to control

who sees their information.

• Know how to block unwanted users.

• Encourage your child to only be

friends online with people they know

in day-to-day life.

• Remind your child to think carefully

before they post comments, or

upload or send images online.

For more information go to iParent on

the Office of the eSafety Commissioner

website to learn about the digital

environment and keep updated on your

child’s technology use. You can find out

about using safety settings on your family’s

web-connected devices, tips for choosing

movies and games and strategies for keeping

your child safe online.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parents and carers will have opportunity to

meet with class teachers via phone, video

conference (Zoom) or in person for Parent-

Teacher Interviews in Week 8 of this term.

Parent Teacher interviews will run from

Tuesday 16th June, 2020 to Thursday 18th

June 2020.

Each Parent Teacher Meeting will run for 10

minutes and will provide opportunity for

teachers and parents to discuss students so

that they are well informed about their needs

and goals for the remainder of the 2020

school year.

Again this year we are using the online

School Interview program for bookings. To

make a booking please go to the following

website: www.schoolinterviews.com.au and

enter the following event code: vve63

This will give you access to the program and

from here you can book interviews with your

child’s teachers at your chosen times.

At point of booking you are able to choose

how you would like your interview conducted

either over the telephone, via video

conference (Zoom) or attending the school in

person.

We prefer for bookings to be made online

but we are available in the office to assist

with making appointments if required.
