Principal’s Message: On Wednesday March 1 st , the Merry Go Round Playhouse came and presented their annual ECHOES performance. ECHOES is a creative writing competition in which middle school students are able to write and submit original creative works. Merry Go Round selects the best pieces from around the state and compiles them in to a performance. This year, Red Creek had several award winners and showcased authors. Sarah Gill, Riley Shaffer, and Alison Sawyer all had pieces selected to be part of the performance. Emilia Bennett received an award for Exceptional writing, and Aleita Mercer, Amber Farr, Anthony Camacho, Brody Smith, Cole Nickerson, Ellen Haas, Jessica Bolton, Sarah Gill, Zachary Huntington, and Zach Demott all received Honorable Mention awards. The emergency dismissal drill scheduled for Friday March 17 th has been cancelled due to the early dismissal this fall from the bomb threat. This means that the school day will end at our normal 2:30 and 3:25 times on that day. Just a reminder that Spring Modified Sports (Baseball, Softball, and Track) will be starting on March 20 th . Students wishing to participate must have an up to date sports physical, and all their paperwork in before that date. State Assessment dates are rapidly approaching. The English Language Arts assessment dates are March 28 th – 30 th . The Mathematics assessment dates are May 2 nd – 4 th . These assessments are scheduled to take place in the morning so please make sure your children are well rested, have eaten breakfast, and are on time to school those days. At the Middle School students are sometimes asked to stay with teachers from 2:30 – 3:25. This time is most commonly used by teachers and students to complete any missing work. This is also a great opportunity for students to complete any assigned homework. Students who take full advantage of their study halls and the 2:30 – 3:25 activity period will likely not need to bring work home to complete. Please speak with your child about their time management skills and using the opportunities in school to complete as much work as possible. English:  Mrs. Marlowe –English 7: We are close to wrapping up our work with Frederick Douglass's autobiography and will soon be beginning the end‐of‐module project. The end‐of‐module project is a short children's story based on one "episode" from the autobiography. The children's book will be complete with writing and illustrations and should be an enjoyable process for the students. I'm looking forward to the finished products!    Math: Mr. Pitts ‐ We have completed the Math‐a‐thon, we're still just putting the final numbers together.  Thank you to all of the parents and students that participated to raise money for St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.  We just completed Module 3 and we will be moving into Module 4 using percent.  Please continue to work with your child on real life application of percent, such as discount, sales tax, and leaving a tip.

8th Grade News: Social Studies: Mr. Malcott ‐ Social Studies 8:  Students will investigate how the aggression of the Axis powers threatened United States security and led to its entry into World War II.  The nature and consequences of warfare during World War II transformed the United States and the global community.  The damage of total warfare and atrocities such as the Holocaust led to a call for international efforts to protect human rights and prevent future wars.   Note:  Check your child's Social Studies google classroom page for information about class activities.  Math:  Mrs. Malcott –  Algebra 8: The students will soon be finishing up Module 3, Topic A and moving into Topic B.  In Topic B, students connect their understanding of functions to their knowledge of graphing from Grade 8.  They learn the formal definition of a function and how to recognize, evaluate, and interpret functions in abstract and contextual situations (F‐IF.A.1, F‐IF.A.2).  Students examine the graphs of a variety of functions and learn to interpret those graphs using precise terminology to describe such key features as domain and range, intercepts, intervals where the function is increasing or decreasing, and intervals where the function is positive or negative.  (F‐IF.A.1, F‐IF.B.4, F‐IF.B.5, F‐IF.C.7a).   Math 8: Eighth graders are continuing to work on Module 2, The Concept of Congruence.  They are now in topic C, where they are learning that congruence is just a sequence of basic rigid motions.  The fundamental properties shared by all the basic rigid motions are then inherited by congruence:  congruence moves lines to lines and angles to angles, and it is both distance‐ and degree‐preserving (Lesson 11).  In Grade 7, students used facts about supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles to find the measures of unknown angles (7.G.5).  This module extends that knowledge to angle relationships that are formed when two parallel lines are cut by a transversal.  In Topic C, on angle relationships related to parallel lines, students learn that pairs of angles are congruent because they are angles that have been translated along a transversal, rotated around a point, or reflected across a line.  Students use this knowledge of angle relationships in Lessons 13 and 14 to show why a triangle has a sum of interior angles equal to 180˚ and why the exterior angles of a triangle is the sum of the two remote interior angles of the triangle.  Science: Mrs. Wojieck ‐ Science 8 ‐ Currently we are examining Newton's 3 laws of motion and where we experience these laws in everyday life.  We will continue this unit exploring how different forces such as gravity, air resistance and friction impact us daily. Specials News: Technology 6: Mr. Malecki ‐ Students in 6th grade Technology are learning about orthographic projection (viewing an object from the Front, Top, and Side) and using the CAD program Inventor to create a 3D sketch. This 3D drawing will be converted and sent to the 3D printer for printing.    Art:

Students voted on collages for Most Creative, Best Descriptions, and Most Visually Appealing.  Here are the winners.
