Thank you to all our visitors who braved the wet conditions to help us celebrate our learning during Education Week. As you can see it wasn’t hard to find smiles, looks of pride and in some cases, a lot of concentration. Whether you enjoyed the choir, band

listened to our budding musicians at

the guitar recital we hope you enjoyed

yourself and got some idea of

Festival of Flight was the theme, up, up and away was the idea; however we enjoyed varying degrees of success at our final on Friday afternoon. Regardless of the length travelled we learnt about flight and enjoyed the whole process of drafting, constructing and trialling our models.

Alexandria from 3:18 decided to cut her hair and donate it to make wigs for people

with cancer. The hairdresser will post it to Pantene as they are accepting a minimum of 20

cm pony tails until the 8th June. Alexandria has been growing her hair her whole life but felt

so strongly about wanting to help she took this big step. What a great example of the

school’s, and obviously the family’s, values; thanks Alexandria for showing us all how to

‘make a difference’.

With some inspiration from Alexandria to keep us going, we have a staff team participating in the MS Walk this Sunday. If you can support us to make a difference, please feel free to follow this link. https://register.mswalk.org.au/ Then click on the Melbourne event, then the Find Participant/Team link and then search for PPPS and you will find us. Next week we will include a team photo, probably best taken before the event rather than after. Many thanks in anticipation.

If a child forgets to bring their lunch, jacket, hat etc., and the parent/carer brings it to the school office after 9am, the follow-ing process has been put in place so that there is as little dis-ruption as possible.

Make sure your child’s name and home group is clear-ly marked on the item.

When the item arrives at the school, an email is sent to the relevant teacher. Each teacher checks their email, if possible, at morning recess and lunchtime before going to the staffroom or doing yard duty. If this process has hiccups eg. casual relief teachers (CRTs), the office will ensure the item gets to the child.

We are unable to guarantee a child will get their play lunch in time, but we can guarantee they will get their lunch.

2016 PREP ENROLMENTS

Do you have a child commencing Prep in 2016? If yes, enrolment packs are now available from the school office. Please

Thanks for your tolerance and patience with the work at the front of the school. Wet weather here and on a previous job interstate has delayed the progress by a couple of days, however the workers are back with us and say the they will be finished their part by Friday. Then we move onto the rest of the paving and some landscaping. We have also reviewed access through the gate from the prep area and have now included a widening of the gate and some additional concreting to the job. As you can see I have applied the adage, ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’. To this week’s message; enjoy. Claire McInerney Principal

Check that no taps are dripping. If they are, get them fixed to save water and energy. Hot water uses a large amount of energy to heat.

Help your plants stay nourished by using mulch. This will help stop the water from evaporating.

SUSTAINABILITY TIPS

Money can be sent to school every school day and is to be given to the classroom

teacher by your child. Money is to be sent in a sealed envelope clearly labelled with your child ’s name, homegroup, payment

description (ie. excursions, uniforms) and the amount of money enclosed. It would be appreciated if the correct amount was

enclosed. EFTPOS payments may be made at the school office.

A Frog goes out in rainy weather And sometimes takes an um-ber-ella It’s skin you see is just like leather And so it likes the cold, wet weather.

If I was a fish I know I would wish To come to the shore And sun myself more I’d not want to stay, Just maybe a day, Then off to the sea, The right place for me.

As you see a crab go by, You really have to wonder why, It travels sideways all the time, And never in a simple line.

A tortoise wears his home on top. If you surprise him, in he’ll pop. In with head and arms and toes - To hide away from all his foes.

Pelicans have enormous wings, To help them do fantastic things, They soar quite high, then glide to land, Coming in gently, near the sand.

Giraffes can see just everywhere. They reach up high into the air. With long thin legs and long necks too, They sleep while standing—yes, it’s true.

YEAR 4-31 Paper plane fun! During Education Week, year 4-31 designed their own paper planes in preparation for work-

ing with their prep buddies. We even held our own class paper plane competition, Riley Lawtey won with his plane travelling the furthest.

We then used our paper plane making skills to work together with the preps for the Festival of Flight competition. Year 4-31 loved working with the preps, as you can see below!

UNIVERSITY STUDENT TEACHERS / WORK EXPERIENCE STUDENTS PPPS has forged close links with a number of Universities to help train the next generation of teachers, known as Pre Service Teachers (PST). We also benefit from the RMIT physical education program with first year PE teachers each year. To become a primary school teacher you are required to complete a four year university course. The practical component of the course requires a PST to spend a certain number of days in schools gaining ‘hands on’ experience and being directly mentored by an experienced teacher. You may have noticed new faces around the school or perhaps your child has talked about having ‘another teacher’ in their room. Already this year we have had PST’s from RMIT, Swinburne and LaTrobe in various home groups across the school. We also take a number of work experience students from local state secondary schools at various times through the year. We are very fortunate at PPPS that so many of our wonderful teaching staff are willing to take an active role in mentoring the next generation of teachers.

Hi everyone, my name is Kerrie Shelden and this is my fourth year teaching eLearning and Media across all year levels. Before this I was a classroom teacher and have taught from years 2 to 6. I have been at PPPS since 2000. How quickly time flies! I am the coordinator of ICT and work with our two technicians to purchase new equipment and maintain our existing devices. Outside of school, my interests include barracking for Essendon in the AFL and Melbourne Storm in the NRL. I also enjoy reading, listening to music, travelling and watching movies.

Hi my name is Stephen Dovile. I am the Specialist Technician at PPPS and I do my best to keep all the computers running at the school on Mondays and Wednesdays. I also work at Dallas Brooks Community Primary, Hume Valley School and Sherbourne Primary. I have been in the Technical Support to Schools Program for 9 years. If I was able increase the day’s length to 48 hours I think I would be able to finish all the jobs at PPPS.

Hi, my name is Luc Labigang. I’m the local technician at PPPS three days a week and have been for the last three and

a half years. I’m also working at Lalor Primary and William Ruthven Primary the other 2 days of the week. In my free

time, I like to educate myself further in various fields, most notably physics. I contribute to community supported

video game development, work on personal software projects and when I find the time, dabble in music

composition and art projects as well. I’m also assisting Mr Scanu in coaching the girls and boys soccer teams, having

many years of experience playing indoor and outdoor soccer

It is a program that aims to create buddies amongst the year levels and makes children aware of how to be resistant to bullying. Your feedback is always important to us, please share with us your opinions and suggestions so we can constantly improve our service.
