Principal's Desk WB Happenings from the Principal October 12, 2018 Dear Parents, Other than the weather dropping almost 30 degrees in one day, it's been a wonderful week for our students as routines continue to become the norm and learning is getting deeper each day. We enjoyed the launch of our character assemblies this week with the theme of Caring. Please ask your child about their learning and how they can show caring behaviors with others. Next week begins our ocial conference week, and we hope that you will nd your time meeting with your child's teachers meaningful in partnering our efforts to reach our students' hearts and minds this year! Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership! Enjoy your weekend with your loved ones! Jeannie Sung Principal Donate to our Kids Care Food Drive! The students of District 34, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and District 30 are coming together in conjunction with Character Counts week, to collect food items to be donated to the Northeld Township Food Pantry. Boxes for daily collections will be located in the front oce. Please send donations (non-perishable) to school October 22- 26, 2018. Thank you for your support!

Focus Forward Together:Your Input on the SWOTAnalysisDear District 34 Parents, If you weren't able to attend one of the engagement sessionsthis week, you still have an opportunity to provide your input onthe SWOT analysis that the Strategic Planning Team developed at their data retreat. (TheSWOT analysis outlines the District's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.) Please take a few minutes to visit the Focus Forward Together web page to view thepresentations and information that the team reviewed, including:

Results of the surveys that show:Parent/community perception dataStaff perception dataStudent perception data

The full data presentation that outlines the current state of the District. It includesdemographic data, as well as data about teaching and learning, professional staff andculture, and nance and operations.

Then, look at the team's analysis of all of the data, and their draft of the SWOT analysis. After you review that information, please click here to take the survey to let us know whereyou agree, disagree, and if you think there is anything that the team missed. If you have any questions about the survey, or any problems accessing it, please let me know.Thank you! With parent-teacher conferences coming up this week, grades might be on your mind. Pleaseknow that conferences, which happen before your child receives a report card, are designed tobe a time to talk about the adjustment to the new school year, goal setting, and building astrong partnership to support your child’s success. That said, I want to share with you some information about the new standards-based reportcard. On November 30, you will be able to log into PowerSchool to see your child’s rsttrimester report card. There will be a “Report Card” icon on the left navigation bar when reportcards are posted (that icon is not visible now). If you have trouble logging into PowerSchool, click here for help. With District 34’s move to standards-based grading comes a report card that has a differentlook and provides you and your child with greater information to understand his or herprogress. Please visit the K-5 Report Card page of the website to nd resources forunderstanding standards-based grading, answers to common questions about the new reportcard, and samples of the report card. Report cards will be translated into Spanish, Korean and Mongolian. You’ll see the tabs at thetop of the screen on the Report Card page in PowerSchool. If you have any questions about the standards-based grading or the new report card, pleasecontact me, your child’s teacher, or Dr. Matt Silverman, Assistant Superintendent forCurriculum, Assessment & Instruction.
