Under 8’s Day Friday 26th May

PREP Last week all Prep students made a space capsule for an egg. The idea of the activity was to build a capsule that would protect the egg when it was dropped on the concrete from a height. The students had a wonderful time creating their capsules out of bubble wrap, cotton wool, metal pie dishes, egg cartons, pom poms, plastic, cardboard, sticky tape and lots of other items. This was the final activity in our 'What's it Made of?' Science unit of work. This week the STEM Coach, Mr Michael Harris will work with each class and provide them with some exciting Space STEM activities. We are also very excited about Under Eight's Day on Friday morning. Learning at Edge Hill State School is lots of fun!!! YEAR 1 Hello Families, some of our Year 1 classes had a wonderful walk to the Centenary Lakes paying careful attention to our Geography learning this week. Thankyou so very much to our parent helpers who made the experience so much more enjoyable by sharing your knowledge and know-how. Years 1D and 1F are going along later in the Term and so your notes will be coming home in the next week or so. Looking forward to seeing you all this Friday for U8's Day - celebrating Coast to Country. It's always a wonderful morning beginning at 9am - 11am.

YEAR 2 All Year 2 classes are currently working hard to complete their Australian Animal Information Report. Children are having fun researching interesting facts on their chosen animal and turning these facts into an information report. Next week is our excursion to Mr Stink. Many permission notes and payments are already in and we thank you for this. If you still need to send yours in please do so as soon as you can. Year 3 The Year Three students are enjoying their weekly Math Rotations. This week we are learning about mass, length, location and shape. In English, the children are reading Kumiko and the Dragon. If you have any Japanese artifices please bring them into school for a special show and tell.

Mrs Blakeley and Miss Curtis are working on the cast for our amazing senior musical this year The Lion King Jr and it will released by next week. All details will be up on the music room window soon. Congratulations to all of our fabulous performers who did an amazing job of playing and singing at the Big Family Breakfast last Wednesday morning. Can all borrowed performing arts shirts be returned by Friday please. Unfortunately we have discovered that a large amount of our school performing arts shirts that we generously lend out for performances have gone missing as they have not been returned from last year. If you notice that a performing arts shirt has a small number on the tag it is a school one and needs to be returned as soon as possible. Unfortunately for the Big Breakfast this meant that we did not have enough stock to lend out to students and we need these shirts for the groups that are performing in the Eisteddfod in a few weeks time. Any shirts that are discovered please send them back to the music department as we would greatly appreciate it.

Scholastic Bookclub has arrived. Please return your order and

SHOES NEEDED! It is nearly eisteddfod time and the choirs have been busy rehearsing early mornings in order to be at our best vocally. Now we need to look good as well! A uniform requirement for choir performances is plain black shoes. We are asking the wider school community to donate unwanted plain black shoes (all sizes welcome) that are in good condition. The shoes can be sandshoes, court shoes or even ballet flats – any style – as long as they are completely black. Donations of shoes can be left at the music block on a Wednesday or Thursday. Thank you. Mrs Hogan and Mrs Richardson

Have you returned your student information update sheet yet? Please

return these ASAP to your classroom teacher.

YEAR 4 So great to see so many of you at the Big Family Breakfast. Congratulations to the children who performed on the day and to our Student Council Members who helped serve breakfast. Have you seen the garden lately? The children are observing it growing daily and have even been measuring the growth of some plants like our corn. In one week the corn grew 11cm. In the Kitchen the children have been cooking up a storm with recipes from Asia using our garden produce. The smells are amazing! A big thanks from the children and teachers to all the parent volunteers who help us out with these lessons. We have also been learning about convicts and The First Fleet, being sustainable and how the environment supports people and other living things and reading Traditional Stories from many cultures which the children have thoroughly enjoyed listening to. Have a great week. YEAR 5 Congratulations to the many Year 5 students who are continuing to work hard to ensure their homework has been completed neatly, correctly and on time. This week the Year 5 students are very excited to see Disco Inferno presented by Trinity Bay State School students. Thank you to those who have returned their Disco Inferno permission notes and made payments. The last two weeks have brought a buzz of excitement about story-writing to Year 5. An engaging talk by marine expert, David Witherall kicked off the inspiration, as students learned about the fascinating real-life characters of the Great Barrier Reef. This week, students are planning and creating stories around these characters in a reef setting. We look forward to sharing these stories with you in our own published book, later this term. YEAR 6 What a privilege to have had the opportunity to hear the amazing story of Imtiaz Ali's survival as an Asylum Seeker during our In Search of Safety session. Our students were certainly engaged and amazed by his incredible journey. Some brilliant questions and respectful listening from our wonderful students, well done! We continue our interschool sports this Friday so please come prepared with your $4. Next week sees the final session of Pop Art as we march swiftly towards assessment and reporting. This week our Technology studies will be enhanced with a guest speaker visit from the Council's Regional Planning Division. He will be speaking to the students about the processes involved in planning public spaces within the council to help guide us with planning our play spaces.

Our P&C has been very busy with our Mother’s Day stall raising over $2000, and our Book Fair earning us over $1600 in books for our library. Thank you also to everyone for helping out last week with the Big Family Breakfast. We had many volunteers in very early—from 5am to help it all run

smoothly. It really did feel like we were all a big family! Special thank you to Max Stocks, Joey’s Bakery and the Flying

Monkey Café for their generous support of our event. Our P&C now move into fete mode. Today we are sending home
