DEPUTY PRINCIPAL - MARK WINDSORDEPUTY PRINCIPAL - MARK WINDSOR

Hi families and welcome back to Term 3. A muchsmoother start to the school term than last whichis good for everyone. It is really nice to have thingssuch as before school meetings with years 5 and6 back and running, an intra-school sportscompetition planned to commence next Friday, cookingunderway and schools parades back up and running as well.

There are still restrictions to parents being on-campus, we willcommunicate to parents about when these change. A few shortmessages below:

AttendanceAttendance

Our current whole-school attendance is sitting at 92.7%, verysimilar to the end of last term and this time last year, a greatresult though still a little under our goal of 95%. I presentedto the year 4, 5 and 6 students the following data at ourfirst parade on Monday. I also issued the students with thefollowing challenge: To increase attendance on Fridays to thesame percentage as Monday – Thursday.

To explain a bit more, currently the School (Prep – Year 6)attendance rate sits at 92.7% for this term. From Monday –Thursday the School attendance percentage is 93.31%, onFridays this drops to 89.3%. I have placed the year 4, 5 and 6attendance data in the table below to make it more readable:

Year Level Average Monday –Thursday

Friday

Year 4 92.2% 92.98% 87.5%

Year 5 94.5% 95.12% 91.1%

Year 6 92.3% 93.4% 85.9%

With assistance from families, I am confident we can improveon Friday percentages. As always, if your child is displayingflu-like symptoms or another illness, please keep them at homeand if you are having difficulty getting your child to school, please let your child’s teacher, myself or our Guidance Officerknow so that we can help support you.

At the end of the first week all families will have received anabbreviated report card highlighting the learning that took placeduring an interrupted semester. Students participated in amodified program to reflect the COVID disruptions and I wouldlike to strongly encourage families to participate in theParent-Teacher interviews that will soon be advertised. Ourteachers are continuing to work on the explicitness of ourcurriculum delivery and the construction of ‘Learning Walls’ inclassrooms; please ask your kids about what the wall does andhow it helps them to track their learning.

The last two weeks have also seen the recommencement ofjunior parades, albeit without any visitors to watch. Ourpreppies attended their first parade in week one and did anoutstanding job of sitting and listening and mumbling throughthe National Anthem. In coming weeks we are hopeful of gettingour visitors back to watch the weekly parades.

Our Prep enrolment processes have kicked into gear over thelast couple of weeks as well. If you are aware of any familiesintending on coming to GBSS in 2021 please ask them tocontact the office so we can start reviewing enrolment numbersand class placements.

Enjoy the next couple of weeks
