One of the great blessings and strengths of our diocese is the Catholic schools. Our Catholic schools provide not only a safe and lov-ing environment to learn in but also an opportunity for children to deepen their faith in God and to animate His presence. While we have a Catholic school here at St. Cecilia, I am not oblivious to knowing that the first teachers of the faith and the main people from whom a child will get his or her values are those at home. The values we lift up in our faith only go as far as the parents and guard-ians embracing them.
We here in this pastoral region of St. Cecilia, St Anthony, and St. Margaret-St. John have set out to help our parents and our chil-dren by introducing Family of Faith. This is a monthly opportunity for parents to go to school on Sunday to enkindle a desire for a relationship with Jesus and to learn more about their own faith. This allows them as the primary teachers of their children, to better support their children’s learning of that same faith. We know that if parents value a relationship with God and nurture it by going to Mass, they will take a vested interest in learning their faith passing on the torch of faith onto their children. Their children will live the dream that Jesus marked out for them, that is, to live their lives united to God and to be forever in Heaven with the Lord.
Altogether, that is the best gift that parents could possibly give to their children. Through parents embracing the Lord, their children are in a great position for that value to flourish by attending our Catholic school. Indeed, at St. Cecilia School, we are serious about supporting your value of faith. On the other hand, if a parent just drops off their children at school and wants us to “Give them Jesus” without also being a witness or supporting the desire of the Catholic school, this could put the children in the position not to thrive as they ought.
If you want to live the dream that God has marked out for you and want your child to do the same, you have a partner in both myself and the parishes of the Eastside Pastoral Region. Through our Catholic School and faith formation programs we provide sup-port for both parent and child. Palms to Be CollectedEvery year before Ash Wednesday, we col-lect the palms from previous Palm Sunday services and then burn them as part of our closing of Ordinary Time. Please bring in your palms, and place them in the bins that are located at all the doors.

1 | CONGRATULATIONS! Congratulations Elizabeth and Michael Cahill
who celebrated the sacrament of marriage on January 16.
2 | YOUNG ADULT CANDLELIGHT MASS. Our monthly YA Candlelight
Mass was full again this month. I’m happy to see our young adults gather
from our diocese. It’s so encouraging. They hold this Mass on the second
Thursday of the month at St. Cecilia.
3 | ARK OF THE COVENANT. I mentioned in a weekend Homily that I ac-
quired the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark of the Covenant was receptacle where
the 10 Commandments and the “Manna”(the bread that came down from
Heaven) were placed. Obviously this is not the real one. The real “Ark” has never
been found, however many were reproduced in the United States after WWII
for Fraternal Organizations to be used in parades and processions all across the
United States after WWII. I always thought it would be neat to acquire one. I
had my opportunity recently and I added it to my collection of things.
4 | CHEER. Long time parishioner, Cathy Schneider, made beautiful floral
arrangements, reusing some of the pieces that were used in our Christmas
decorating. She then passed them out and delivered them to bring a little
cheer to people who were needing it. It was a lovely gesture and I’m thankful
for her kindness.
5 | WELCOME CHILD OF GOD. Welcome Welles Paul Mullen, son of
Scott and Bethany Mullen. Fr. Jacob was able to baptize a good friends new-
est baby! What a blessing,

Catechesis (kat’i-ke’sis) n.Lamb of God (Agnus Dei)This is a litany prayer that accompanies the breaking of the consecrated bread at Mass. It became part of the liturgy in the West in the seventh century. Ending the last petition with “grant us peace” (dona nobis pacem) became common during the tenth and eleventh centuries. The reference to Jesus as the Lamb of God comes from John 1:29, Revelation 5:6-13, and other scripture passages.

Join us as we invite international speaker & author, Karlo Broussard to preach our parish Lenten mission. The Catholic Answers personality will provide three thought provoking talks. On Sunday night, Apologetics for an Age of Unbe-lief. On Monday night, he will discuss moral relativism in his talk titled Your Truth, My Truth. On Tuesday, he will offer a talk on The Eucharist: Symbol
or Substantial Presence. There will be opportunities for the sacrament of reconciliation on Tuesday evening.

Know your SaintsSt. Nicholas (~d. 350) The absence of the “hard facts” of history is not necessarily an obstacle to the popularity of saints, as the devotion to St. Nicholas shows. Both the Eastern and Western Churches honor him, and it is claimed that after the Blessed Virgin, he is the saint most pictured by Christian artists. And yet, historically, we can pinpoint only the fact that Nicholas was the fourth-cen-tury bishop of Myra, a city in Lycia, a province of Asia Minor.
As with many of the saints, how-ever, we are able to capture the rela-tionship which Nicholas had with God through the admiration which Chris-
tians have had for him—an admiration expressed in the colorful stories which have been told and retold through the centuries.
Perhaps the best-known story about Nicholas concerns his charity toward a poor man who was unable to provide dowries for his three daughters of marriageable age. Rather than see them forced into prostitution, Nicholas secretly tossed a bag of gold through the poor man’s window on three separate occasions, thus enabling the daughters to be married. Over the centuries, this particular legend evolved into the custom of gift-giving on the saint’s feast. In the English-speaking countries, St. Nicholas became, by a twist of the tongue, Santa Claus—further expanding the example of generosity portrayed by this holy bishop.

Holy Hour and Confessions at St. Anthony
Beginning on Thursday, February 4, the weekly Holy Hour with confessions will begin immediately after the 5:30 PM
Mass. The Holy Hour will go from 6PM to 7PM.
This is a great opportunity for our parish to deepen our relationship with our Eucharistic Lord and to provide a real
service to the wider community around Madisonville. Please come and spend this time with the Lord and invite friends
