AimTo develop lineout handling, movement and communication skills.
OrganisationGroups of 14+ players are divided into 2 teams of 5+ (e.g. 7v7, 10v10). 1m sq. scoring ‘squares’ are defined by markers at both ends of the ‘pitch’, central and approximately 3m from the end lines. The coach passes the ball to one team from the side line to start the game. Players score by using lineout throwing to pass the ball to a team-mate positioned in the scoring square. Players are not allowed to move with the ball in hand and no contact is allowed. Players are allowed to pass in any direction and can attempt to intercept passes to gain possession. The game is re-started after a score by the coach.
TechniqueCommunicate with team mates; move into space to receive pass; hands up for pass; catch ball away from body; head-up to scan/ read movement of defenders; catch, pass and move quickly.
