Women, Weight and Hormones: 7 Strategies for Fighting Fat After 40Are you finding that fat is collecting around your mid-section and no matter how well you watch what you eat or how much you exercise that weight is not budging? If this is your story, then your inability to lose weight probably has more to do with your hormone levels than anything else. Until you discover and correct any imbalances, trying to lose weight will be like shoveling sand against the tide. Fluctuating hormone levels at mid-life very much affect weight gain. It is not only the level of hormones but the ratio that’s so crucial in determining how much and where you gain body fat. In this workshop you will learn 7 key strategies for fight-ing fat and losing weight, including: which hormones can make you fatter; why hormone ratios are important; why you are gaining weight around the middle; what HRT or birth control pills have to do with weight gain; which food choices make this worse; how to have your hormone levels checked reliably; what steps need to be taken to safely break the vicious cycle of hormone related weight gain; and how to help your body begin to lose weight again.

Seniors pay a much larger share of their income in out-of-pocket health costs than non-seniors do...understanding the differences in the plans offered can reduce your cost. Early Childhood Screening - 952.226.0975 The early childhood years, from birth to the start of kindergarten, are an

important time of rapid learning and growth. Early Childhood Screening is a quick and simple check of how your child is doing at age three to four. The screening process identifies, at an early age, possible health or learning concerns so children can get help before starting school. All children need to be screened before enroll-ing in kindergarten. If your child is of screening age and you’d like to schedule an appointment, or if you are conscientiously opposed to screening, please contact our office. Email: [email protected]

Are you planning on enrolling your child into Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools? Summer is a great time to register your student and we’ve made it easy for parents with one-stop enrollment at the District Services Center in Prior Lake or online at www.priorlakesavage.k12.mn.us.

By going to www.priorlakesavage.k12.mn.us, parents can click on

“Enroll in Our Schools” under the Quick Guide. From there, parents can watch a short video about our E-12 education and get all of the forms needed to enroll their student in school, with step-by-step instructions, all in one convenient location.

Forms can be submitted electronically or dropped off at the District Ser-vices Center in Prior Lake: 4540 Tower Street SE. Information about our programs and services such as curriculum, special education, gifted and talented, school-age care through Kids’ Company and more can also be found on the Enroll in Our Schools web page.

Another helpful feature is the School Finder. From our website parents can click on the School Finder link and type in their home address. The neighborhood school will be listed along with a map, school website link and transportation information.

While these customer service features have been designed with conve-nience in mind, face-to-face interaction remains very important. While online, parents have the option to make an appointment to visit the school their child will attend.

These features have been implemented to make it easier on families who may be moving to the Prior Lake-Savage area and for families who al-ready live in our district and wish to enroll their student from the comfort of their home; one-stop shopping.

We have so much to offer students at Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools and we look forward to welcoming new families this fall.

We’re looking for YOU ... the person with a special

interest or subject knowledge that you’d like to share with

others

We are looking for teachers willing to add a little “class” to the lives in Prior Lake-Savage. You don’t have to be a licensed teacher. Enthusiasm combined with knowledge of a subject or skill in a special interest area will be enough to get you started.

Those of us in Community Education are here to provide assistance on class content, handout production and more. We’ll let you know what we expect, how we will promote your classes and do all we can to help you succeed. You’ll receive an instructor’s handbook with all the practical details you need to know, feedback from class participants and appreciation for your efforts.

But it’s not just about Community Ed, it’s about you contributing to your community to make it a better place to be and your own personal growth.

We can’t do it without YOU! Call us at 952-226-0080.

Be an “Early Bird”Prompt registration helps avoid disappoint-ment when classes fill quickly or have to cancel due to low enrollment, only to find that late registrations would have allowed the class to run. Early registrations also make it easier if we need to contact you for any reason before your class begins.

RefundsYour money will be refunded if your class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. If you choose to cancel your class registration, to be eligible for a full refund we need to receive your request no later than 4:00 p.m. five (5) business days prior to the first day of class. Prior Lake High School

Mike Roberts turned off the light at Split Rock Lighthouse at the end of the 1968-69 shipping season. Little did he know that the light would never shine again for the mariners at this iconic Lake Superior landmark. Hear firsthand stories of life at Split Rock Lighthouse and making ends meet on the north shore. Q&A and a book signing will conclude the evening.
