How to EnrolAll students who wish to enrol in the Private Instrumental and Vocal Tuition Program are required to complete the Music Tuition Application Form.

Please return the Music Tuition Application Form to the Music department to arrange a music tutor. All enrolments are subject to the Conditions of Tuition, set out on the reverse of the Application Form which is available on the LJBC website www.ljbc.wa.edu.au.

Which Instrument? Your child should choose an instrument that has a sound he or she appreciates.Music staff will be happy to assist you in selecting from the following:

Brass: Trumpet; trombone; euphonium; tubaGuitar: Electric guitar; bass guitar; classical guitar; acoustic guitarStrings: Violin; Viola; celloWoodwind: Flute; clarinet; alto saxophone; tenor saxophone; baritone saxophonePercussion Drum kitPiano Piano; keyboardVoice

Private Tuition 1. It is our intention for students to have a lesson every week of their school year.2. Lessons may be terminated after one term of tuition. If a student wishes to withdraw

from lessons the Withdrawal from Lessons Form must be given to the Director of Music. The form is available on the College website: www.ljbc.wa.edu.au.

Tuition FeesTutors will bill parents directly at the start of each term.

Families wishing to hire an instrument should indicate their request on the Application Form. Instruments will be hired according to availability.

Lesson TimesLessons are weekly, and for most students take place during class time. Lesson times will be rotated to ensure students do not miss the same class more than twice a term. Students in Years 11 and 12 may request to have lessons scheduled before or after school, or at lunchtime.

Students in K-3 will be collected for lessons by their tutor.

Parents are asked to contact the tutor, before 8am, if their child is unable to attend his/her music lesson due to ill health or unforeseen circumstances. Normal charges will apply where a scheduled lesson is missed and no notice is given.

Parental Involvement As parents, your involvement is vital to your child’s progress. For some people instrumental music is the epitome of the musical experience. For others, it is the extension of the pleasures of listening to music and involvement in music. From whichever position one starts, instrumental music learning is a powerful adjunct to the development of a student’s musical expression and appreciation.

Tuition is but one aspect of learning an instrument; the other is the practice time at home. The amount of time required will vary, growing from 20-30 minutes per day at first, to one or two hours per day in their Senior Secondary years of learning. You can also be an enormous help by encouraging your child to play for you, being generous with enthusiastic praise, supporting your child if he/she becomes discouraged, and attending concerts and recitals.

All students will be required to purchase a small notebook to take to lessons. This book will be used to keep a record of lesson times and provide a means of communication between parents and tutors.

Ensembles and Eisteddfods Students involved in the Private Instrumental and Vocal Tuition Program are required to participate in College ensembles and annual Primary and Secondary Eisteddfods.
