Personal message from Henry

Henry Fingleton, - Director

All the best,

Henry* CSIA - Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance. BASI - British Association of Snowsports Instructors. ISIA - International Ski Instructors Association.

My passion for skiing.Twelve years ago, having had

6 skiing holidays, I admitted that my ski addiction was no longer controllable and so my family and I decamped to Soldeu, Andorra, for a season so I could train to be become a ski instructor. That year, one of the best of my life so far, I completed my CSIA* levels 1 and 2 instructor certification courses, which qualified me to teach skiing in lots of different countries.

The following season we returned to Soldeu where I worked full-time for the ski school.

Since then I have spent each winter in Andorra improving my qualifications to CSIA* level 3, Race Coach 1 & 2 and BASI* level 3 ISIA*.  At present, I am training for CSIA* level 4 and European Speed Test.

A brief history. Before arriving in Andorra for

the first time we ran a seasonal tourism business “Kilvahan Horse-drawn Caravans” and I was also involved in construction. We have since sold the business and I have confined my building to the months I am at home in Ireland.

My passion for skiing is contagious. My wife, oldest son, brother and brother-in-law have all since qualified as ski instructors. We suspect we hold the Irish record for, “most ski instructors in one family”.

I now concentrate on training advanced to expert skiers and those preparing for ski instructor exams.

I have experience in all aspects of ski skill development including; general fitness training, nutrition, equipment and sport psychology.

Take full advantage. It is very important to me that

everyone who takes part in a Pro Ski Training course feels that they receive the very best possible opportunity to succeed in achieving their goals. Pro Ski Training employ only the very best “hand picked” ISIA* level and race coach qualified training instructors and mentors possible. They are involved in the programme and have been specifically selected for their approachability, professionalism, commitment, experience and qualifications. I am delighted that, by kind permission of Sr. Miquel Casal (Ski School Director), Pro Ski Training is able to work in close association with the highly regarded Soldeu/El Tarter Ski School, as it has the reputation for being one of the best in the World.

I hope you choose to come and train with us and share our passion for the mountains, the snow and the adrenaline.

On snow skill development You join fellow course

participants and focus on technical skiing development. Through a combination of skill improvement drills; tactical skiing; video and oral feedback, you will have the opportunity to develop your skiing towards the required standards for Alpine Ski Instructor, levels one and two.

Your teaching developmentIn association with the a local Ski

School, you will receive the opportunity to shadow a Pro Ski Training mentor, as they manage a group through a 15 hour, five day ski week. This is a fantastic opportunity to get an insight into thinking of the instructor, the tactics and techniques they employ as they develop the group through a ski week. It provides invaluable preparation before you ski

teaching examination. Additionally, you will receive a daily briefing from your mentor.

Teaching practice will take place within the “on snow” skill development timetable and will be supplemented during selected evening, off snow, sessions.

Off snow workshops, lectures & briefings

Your on snow technical skill development and your teaching understanding will be supported through a combination of off snow video presentations; group discussion and one on one consultation.

To complement on snow trainingThe evening sessions provide a

chance to consolidate your on snow experience and create a window to examine the theory of skiing and ski teaching. These evening session will

take place in the early evenings and will be limited to one hour each time. Flexibility...

Once you develop a feel for the schedule and training opportunities available, we’ll invite you to take part in the planning process for the remainder of the course. We place great importance on the principle of full inclusion and ownership of your own development within the programme.

The other stuff...Each of our chosen resorts provide

a superb chance for you to supplement your programme with a whole host of optional activities and experiences. Naturally, you can opt to indulge on your own, but you may have a much better time if you get together with your fellow course participants and other “locals” to network a little to discover what activities you have on your wish list in common.

Cost? There is a wide range of activities

that will suit every budget, so no need to break the bank, but generally speaking the more of you that do the activity the cheaper it will work out for the individual.

Not an exhaustive list...Here are just a few examples of

the types of activities that you can get involved in during the season, but don’t feel restricted by this list:

WHY SOLDEU?

5Snow making network (snow guarantee) .Throughout the area of Grandvalira, there are 15 snow production centres which, via 1024 snow cannons,

service 64 km of the 205 km of slopes. Grandvalira’s artificial snow technicians are highly experienced professionals. To guaranteed the best snow conditions for the F.I.S. WORLD CUP WOMEN’S SLALOM & GIANT SLALOM events in 2012, on the Avet slope, for example, 34 state-of-the art snow cannons are installed, with a snow making capacity of 500 cubic metres of snow per hour.

1024 cannons (64 kilometres, 39 miles )

2How we think Soldeu compares to similar resorts around the world. The European Alps: No way near as; expensive, busy, snooty or

snobby. Soldeu has been part of a massive capital investment of €80 million over recent years providing a state of the art fully integrated high speed lift network to all but eliminate queueing. The village is more intimate, personal and great value with quality.

North America: Closer to home with no 6 to 9 hours flights with jet lag and a lot warmer.  Frost bitten extremities with any movement restricted under “a gezillion” layers, isn’t how we like to ski.  We prefer sunshine and sunglasses.

WHY VERBIER?

2How we think Verbier compares to similar resorts around the world:

The European Alps: a beautiful chalet-style resort in a sunny, south facing, panoramic setting. Over 400 kilometres of pisted slopes with everything from beginner runs to seriously long mogul fields and off-piste terrain. Fashionable and lively, the resort has a varied nightlife as well as a vast array of shops, restaurants and off snow amenities and activities.

North America: Closer to home with no 6 to 9 hours flights with jet lag and a lot warmer.  Frost bitten extremities with any movement restricted under “a gezillion” layers, isn’t how we like to ski.  We prefer sunshine and sunglasses;

Australasia: Well it’s not the other side of the planet for a start. Vertical drop to die for and lifts from the heart of the resort..

Verbier in Switzerland is one of the largest ski resorts in the Swiss Alps. Forming the western section of the

massive "4 Vallees" ski region, there is almost limitless premiere on-piste and off-piste opportunities, making it amongst Europe's most famous ski resorts. The literal highlight of the region is the local glacier Mont Fort, which at 3,330 metres, provides a superb ski experience and views of iconic alpine peaks such as the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.

WHY HEMSEDAL?

2How we think Hemsedal compares to similar resorts around the world:

The European Alps: Just hard to beat the pristine and unspoiled environment. Beautiful wilderness on your doorstep with superb and reliable snow conditions. Service minded, friendly & English speaking people. Ski on quiet, wide open ski slopes and with virtually no lift queues. Superb for cross-country skiing.

Australasia: Well it’s not the other side of the planet for a start. You can be skiing, on piste, within 15 minutes of leaving your accommodation and the season is much longer - 5 months. A huge list of activities available away from the skiing.

North America: Closer to home with no 6 to 9 hours flights with jet lag.

“Many thanks to Henry and the Pro Ski Training crew for a great season in Soldeu!

Everything easily exceeded my expectations. Along with improving our technical skiing skills, we learned the “soft skills” like team

leadership, public speaking, and student engagement, which are so important for becoming a successful instructor. By integrating us

tightly into the local ski instructor community, we got a lot of exposure to the professional-level conduct that would be expected of us.

By the time we got to the certification exams, we had no problem passing on the first try.

Whether you’re coming to the course as a gap year student or as someone fulfilling a lifelong dream, you can be assured that you will

have fun, while also learning high-level, real-world skills. Pro Ski Training has a winning model for the course, and I can’t imagine a

Paula for making us feel so welcome

and a part of the village right from the

start, it set the tone for what was one

of the best experiences of my life.

 My thought's on the course?

 1. Worth every penny and

more than

what I paid for the course.

2. No better way to spend a winter.

3. Got to know some really great

people from all walks of life.

4. The personal attention and the

attention to detail excellent.

5. Without doubt some of the best

instructors I have skied with.

6. Soldeu rocks, skied from early

December all the way through till

April.7. We couldn't have been bette

r

prepared for our exams by the

instructors at Pro-Ski Training

8. Spent most of my time skiing with

top instructors and having fun, even

on our days off!9. I thought the course was going to

be good, but it was way better than

I could have imagined.  Pat O’Keefe, Dublin, Ireland.

Hi Henry,The season was awesome, while there wasn't as much snow as previous years there was still some world-

class powder to be had. As for the course itself I cannot recommend it enough, well-structured but

flexible, great craic, fantastic learning

experience, in choosing this particular course I probably made the best

decision of my life. Soldeu is a cool place to

live/ski, it is relatively small which makes for a very soc

ial atmosphere where

everyone knows everyone. As one of the elite club known as "the locals", one can enjoy such treats as local

prices in all the bars, banter with the bar staff and the very occasional free drink if you are charming enough.

I was. As for the skiing, Grandvalira has the most comprehensive mix of terrain I've seen anywhere, with a fantastic

beginners area (in Soldeu), a vast number of enjoyable blu

es and reds, some sweet blacks and some even

sweeter off-piste terrain which the Pro Ski trainers will have no qualms about taking you through.

The trainers are where Pro Ski Training really blow the competition out of the water, a bunch of awesome

skiers who just happen to be incredible instructors and really fu

n people.

Thank you so much, Cian Dalglish, Cheshire, U.K.
