Procedure for Displaying UTM Coordinates in ArcView 3.3

Preparing the UTM-Coordinates for ArcView 1. List the UTM-coordinates in Excel they should look like the coordinates listed

below.

Displaying UTM-Coordinates in ArcView

2. Start ArcView 3.3 with a new view and add a shapefile with the same projection as the dbf file created in step 1.

3. Once there is a shapefile in the view with the correct projection use the project

manager window to add the UTM dbf file as a table. The table should look similar to the table shown below.

4. Add the UTM coordinates to the view as an event theme. a. Click on the View pull down menu and then click Add Event Theme. b. Set the “X” field to Longitude and the “Y” field to Latitude. c. If the projection file added earlier is correct the points should overlay the

shapefile in the view like shown below.

5. Convert this new theme to a shapefile by clicking on the ‘View’ menu and

‘Convert to shapefile’. Choose an appropriate folder to save the shapefile.
