From Pastor Doug

Five Things…

1. Make sure you check out Aaron Fagerwick’s page on Fellowship events coming up in July and

August. We especially look forward to the Church Picnic on Sunday, July 31, following the Worship

Service. Invite your neighbors and friends for a day of worship and fellowship!

2. On Sunday, August 21, we are having a Jazz Worship service. Our God Squad group is quite

talented in the area of Jazz music. They are inviting a few friends to join them on that Sunday. This

would be a great day to invite others to come to church with you! The music will be special.

3. On Rally Sunday [September 11] we will be opening the Church Cornerstone. The last time it was

opened was in 1977, when Pontoppidan celebrated its centennial. This year is the 100th

anniversary of the main church building. After worship we will open the cornerstone, and look at

the contents in Fellowship Hall.

4. I will be on vacation in July. Pastor Darrel Saathoff will lead us in worship on July 10 and 17. Pastor

David Isaacson will be available for pastoral emergencies. Call the church office for any needs from

July 7-19.

5. The Confirmation Class will be traveling to the Black Hills July 25-29. Keep us in your prayers for

safe travels, good weather, and growing in faith and in favor with God.

Have a great month!

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” [Isaiah 41:10]

Caring For Our Neighbors

Hello! These are our WELCA stewardship projects for the month of July: The grocery cart is designated for the New Life Center. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable razors, shampoo, combs and deodorant are all needed there. Lutheran Social Services’ Luther Hall: Luther Hall is a specialized residential psychiatric treatment facility that serves youth ages 10 to 18 who have been diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder and need 24-hour care and treatment. There is a box near the church office marked for donations of these items intended to make residents of Luther Hall more comfortable: Single blankets, single quilts, single afghans, personal care items, games, puzzles, and craft items. Both Luther Hall and the New Life Center also accept cash donations (which are tax-deductible); if you wish to help in this way, please put your gift in the Sunday offering tray or bring it to the church office. 16th Annual United Way School Supply Drive: Each summer, United Way coordinates the annual school supply drive to equip thousands of local K-12 students with the backpacks and supplies they need to succeed in school. In 2015, this drive equipped 5,260 students with school supplies! There is another marked box outside the church office for donations for the school supply drive; specified items are listed in most local stores Also, as always, we are happy to accept bath size bars of soap for Luther World Relief.

“Gracious God, please continue to bless us and

strengthen us as we try to be more like you. Amen”

Shedd and Kris Waskosky, Bible translators we support, were recently back in Ecuador, making audio recordings of the Bible they have been translating in the Salasaca language for many years. Shedd was with us last winter to invite us to pray for their endeavor. Here is an update from Kris.

Dear praying friends, While the Salasaca audio recordings were taking place in April and May, I reflected often on these familiar verses: As the scripture says, "All mankind are like grass, and all their glory is like wild flowers. The grass withers, and the flowers fall, but the word of the LORD remains forever." 1 Peter 1:24-25 Leave all your worries with Him because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 LORD our God, may your blessings be with us. Give us success in all we do! Psalm 90:17 Day-after-intensive-day we saw God giving us success, sending readers from morning all day long and often into the late evening, especially on the weekends. We didn't need to worry about nervous readers who tended to fumble because a talented young woman was available to do lots of prompting so that they could read with meaning. The skilled technicians from Peru made special contributions as well. We are so glad for the effort the Salasaca believers made so that the eternal word of the LORD will be soon available to people in an easily understood media. Relying on Jesus, who invites us to come to Him, Kris, on behalf of Shedd too
